Could you not just bring Traveler's Cheques and cash them at the cage, then pay for the entry in chips/cash.

Do I need to notify Bellagio ahead of time, before I wire money there? Or do I just need to send it and then call to verify that they got it?

Walrus, the fact that you say "a traveller's cheque" and the replies you're getting make me concerned that what you're talking about isn't a traveller's cheque at all. Did you read my explanations below (or look them up on Wiki for better), and if so, which one is/are yours?

The advantage over cash is if you lose them, they can be cancelled and replaced. These are always treated as cash if they are accepted.

A cashier's cheque is similar to a bank draft, or a certified cheque. It will be made out in somebody's name specifically, so it can only be used at whatever place it is made out to. They are meant to be used for a specific purchase. To my mind, they should also be treated as cash, but often aren't when they are from a foreign bank. I found this out when I sent one to Newegg.
I might consider making the call if I have time, but you need to be 100% clear on your terminology here.

A traveler's cheque is issued by banks (and, in Australia, a few other financial retail locations).

I'd suggest that instead of getting such a cheque, you just wire your money to the Rio. That way you can't lose the thing, and it'll be possible to confirm transmission of it well before you even leave Australia.

So this will be one single traveller's cheque? A large denomination for a traveller's cheque. Perhaps that's why the wait time...can't say as I've ever tried to cash a $10,000 traveller's cheque before.

And it won't be made out in anybody's name?

Wiring is easy. Just get the rio cage wire instructions (somebody will probably post them here) head to your bank and tell them you want to do a wire transfer. Your money will be waiting at the Rio when you arrive.

Walrus: You are confusing the term traveler's cheque with cashier's cheque. They are NOT the same and the cashier's cheque will take time to clear, so will NOT work for you.

Traveler's Cheque's come in denominations of 10/20/50/100 ONLY and you have to sign each individual "bill" when you buy them at the bank, and then sign again in front of the cashier at the casino cage. THESE do NOT have a "wait" time, and is good right away, but will take you 10-15 mins if not more to sign them all.

Know the difference in the above 2.

What was the final word on Ipod touches at the WSOP? I know there was some debate, but never heard if they are allowing them.

There hasn't been any debate. No devices with communication technology allowed. Period.

I'm debating on where to stay. I was looking at the Excalibur, and the tropicana since I dont wanna pay a fortune on hotels. Any recommandation on wich is best, or eaven other choises I might want to consider. I want to be staying on/near the strip.

The Excalibur's not bad; certainly nicer than the Tropicana. They were redoing the pool at Excalibur when I was there last summer; I'm not sure if they're done yet.

The Imperial Palace is close to everything and usually pretty cheap...but probably one of the dumpier strip casinos. When I'm just down with friends to drink and gamboool I don't much care about the hotel, so I'd have no problem staying there. When I go with the wife, I'd stay elsewhere.

Called Rio Cage today.

They said that they accept wire, traveler ceck, or cashier check. They said wait on cashier check is only a few minutes. I double and triple checked this "even from australia?". This kind of surprised me. They confirmed only a few minutes for cashiers check.

I asjed for wire info and they referred me to the wsop website.. i couldn't find it off hand.

As long as they know it's a legit bank, there's no reason this shouldn't be the case, really. A cashier's cheque is basically a cheque that the bank itself has written to the Rio, so as long as the bank is legit and solvent, they shouldn't have anything to worry about. I would imagine that Vegas casinos who cater to tourists around the world should be familiar with all sorts of different forms of currency.

That being said, I've been surprised before by merchants that don't see it that way, so it's always best to check beforehand as you did.

How long does it take for Stars to send you a check?

I had some car trouble that wiped out some of my cash, so I may cash out some of my BR if I have time. \

Depending on how long it takes is there anyone willing to do a transfer for cash? We can even do it in person cuz I'll probably be bringing my laptop out there.
