If you take the 15 waaay south, it cuts through the mojave national preserve... ive only ever driven through (had a banking disaster last year and had to drive to the nearest branch which, of course, was in another state) but it looks like there is a lot of good hiking... ns about bodies of water but its the desert so id guess probably not.

Do a google maps directions search for las vegas to twentynine palms, ca and the area im talking about is like half way there, just north of the 40.

Its certainly not balmy here in the summer (i live in phoenix and we have essentially the same kind of weather), but last summer was much worse than the norm. I think they broke like pretty much every temperature record on the books last summer. If you plan ahead and stay on top of the forecasts, you should be able to find a few days that are somewhat reasonable (ie, temps 'only' in the high 90s or low hundreds)

Since the house takes about 10% juice, they're not about to give up 4 to 5 percent to a credit card company.

The thing is the casino doesnt pay % to the CC company. Its like a cash back rewards card. The CC want you to use them to finnance crap.

Standard is 1% of anything you purchase on cash back but some good cards will give you 3% for first 6 months or what ever...

anyhow i take it no one has paid entrys on CC before in vegas (though i do it in la casinos all the time)...

Maybe there is online registration for some of these tourns.

How do you think the CC Companies make a profit?

From wiki: "For each purchase, the bank charges the merchant a commission (discount fee) for this service and there may be a certain delay before the agreed payment is received by the merchant. The commission is often a percentage of the transaction amount, plus a fixed fee."

Are you supposed to tip the cashier who hands you your safety deposit box in the rio? Im unsure as to what amount, as it seems silly handing over $1 or $2 bucks when youre handling loads in front of them, but something like $5 seems way too much.

Also, when theres a waiting list, has anyone tried to tip the staff to get higher? How do you approach this and what would be a suitable amount?

Yes, I tip a dollar. Who cares how much is in there, they do the same amount of work. I doubt it's possible to bribe your way up the waiting list though

Going to be there 7/1 to 7/4. Anyone planning on hitting up the go-karts? They look better and cheaper than the ones here in the Bay Area.

Just got off the phone with the Rio to see what the hotel rates were and I was pleasantly surprised:

Thursday, June 12: $40 <-- not a typo
Friday, June 13: $140
Saturday, June 14: $140
Sunday, June 15: $90
Monday, June 16: $90
Tuesday, June 17: $110
Wednesday, June 18: $130

After Wednesday the 18th the prices go up to $300+ and they and they get much more expensive after that topping out around $900 on 4th of July weekend but if anyone is in town now and still needs a place to stay you should definitely give the Rio a call for some pretty good rates.

I booked through Weds and after that I will go to a budget place assuming I have not shipped a bracelet yet

Was looking to go to Vegas for 4 nights later in June.. I looked at some web packages for hotels, the difference b/w a 4 star (Mandalay Bay/Mirage) and a 5 star (Bellagio, The Wynn) is about 3-400 dollars in total.. I was wondering, cost aside, is it worth it to go to somewhere like the Bellagio or Wynn compared to these 2? I'd mainly just be looking for a good poker room so I don't have to taxi back to my hotel in the middle of the night, and obviously a good hotel room makes the experience more enjoyable..

Mirage is right between the Wynn and Bellagio. Unless you are trying to impress a chick, save the $400 and stay at Mirage (Mandalay is nice, but you will be cabbing it everywhere.)

Ok, so wiring to the Rio seems easy enough.

Are they just as happy to wire it back to your account when you are leaving Vegas?

You have to fill out a request form and have all the relevant banking information. Ie, your bank account no, swift code, bank address, etc.

hey guys

I have a problem. I have won a WSOP Main Event package on the Ipoker network and it seems that they want to register me themselves to the Main Event. Isn't Harrah's policy that no third party registrations are allowed? They won't even give me wsop chips to play whatever event I want.
Can they actually register me to the $10.000 donkament altough I don't want to? I rather play 3-4 events and try the 1k super-sats for the ME.

What do you guys think?

I think the poker rate at Wynn is for 6 hours of play per day. If you or possible roommates can handle that, it's a better value than MB or Mirage.
