Your best bet is to go with MetroPcs ..its a CDMA based phone service they offer unlimited calling, unlimited texting (to anywhere in the world), picture texting etc for $45 a month (without a contract) .. You just cant go wrong with that.. they not that well known yet cos they only in a few states ( California, Texas, Florida, Michigan and Nevada)... but it sure beats roaming charges..

couple of drawbacks .. they carry regular phones not pdas and their cust service sucks (just make sure u pay your bill when its due and u wont have to ever talk to cust service). I had it for almost 2 yrs now and i aint complaining.

check it it www.metropcs.com

If someplace else Mid-Strip like Mirage or Planet Hollywood or Paris can't beat Flamingo, then I'd stay at Flamingo. Its pool gets great reviews (I've walked by it and it looked very nice) and your GF will probably like being close tot eh Miracle Mile mall and Fashion Square Mall isn't a horrible walk either.
Initially I did not want to rent a car but I think I have to change my mind on that one, too. Somebody mentioned www.enterprise.com. Can anyone recommend any other car rental companies? Can I get a better price at the rental stations if I just show up and tell them to make me a good offer?

If you go to a dealership car rental place you will get less selection, but they will deal with you.

I looked at their website and it says "New accounts only upon new phone purchase.". We only need the cell phone service during my stay in Vegas so I am wondering if there are any alternatives for those of us who are coming in from Europe. Buying two phones in addition to the monthly fee does not seem economical.

if you outside the US you are probably better off going the prepaid route (boost mobile, virgin mobile etc). The metropcs works best if you have lots of friends / family in the US you can call for free (unlimited calling/texting) .. you get to pay for phones but u also get the first month of service free of charge; in essence your total cost for the month u in vegas is the cos of the phone (ave. $80).

for boost mobile assuming you get the cheapest phone $40 .. u still have to pay the $1/day ($30 for a month) plan fee and additionally u still pay 10cents/minute to make/receive calls during the day.. and 15cents per international text massage sent... which still gonna be at least $80 when its all said and done.

The best alternative in my opinion, if you dont have a lot of family and friends u wanna call in the US is go with virgin mobile.. go to the nearest bestbuy or any electronic store.. pick up the cheapest phone for about $30 ..add $20 credit to the card and thats it.. u pay 15cents a minute to call /receive and about 2cents/txt

correction: Metropcs phone starts at $99 ( not $80) .. but with the purchase of new phone, you get the first month of service Free.

Here's a request. I'll probably need a shave and a haircut when I arrive. What's the best place on the strip (preferably a barbershop atmosphere) to get a shave and a trim?

Do tips grow in a linear fashion with the size of the games being played?

Ie: Do nosebleed games expect nosebleed tips?
If not, what is tipping generally "capped" at.

For poker, the standard is a buck a pot. If you win a huge pot feel free to tip more, but don't feel obligated. For table games, just place a small bet for the dealer every 20 minutes or so.

i don't know how much you're looking to spend but for about $50 (when i was there a couple months ago) i got a great haircut and straight razor shave at mandalay bay. go over to where the house of blues is and go up that escalator and it's down on the right side.

Q - If I leave the east coast halfway through the WSOP, fly to vegas, stay for 4-5 days and play 2 small buy-in events, what is the cheapest way to make this happen?

Airfare is cheapest is you fly Tues-Thurs. Hotel rates are the cheapest then as well. If you are playing in WSOP events, you will qualify for a discount rate at Harrah's. You should also be aware that booking airfare at least 14 days in advance is the way to get the best fare.

Staying at MGM for 2 and a half weeks. Any chance of the $20/$50/$100 trick working for such a long stay?

Thanks a lot to everyone that's been posting answers in this thread - it was really helpful.

I'm travelling from Europe, and from the responses so far, I'm assuming it's best to bring cash? I'm bringing $10k in buyins and some money for expenses (staying for two weeks).

So my questions:
What's the latest you can buy in for any of the events?

Can I go to the Rio on the first day and just buy in for all of the events I wanna play to get rid of the cash?

If I buy in for (ex.) Event 46 and 47, which start on consecutive days, and I make day 2 of Event 46 (so I am unable to play 47), can I get a refund easily? Or should I wait to see if I make day 2 in Event 46 before buying into 47?

Do they have an upper limit to the number of entrants for some events?

Thanks.

I believe there are upper limits of *all* events this year. And in fact when I went to the registration page (http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/registration/) I saw that pre-registration is closed for many events already even halfway through June. I can only assume these events are full. Morre events are closed every day.

If I were you, I'd preregister for any events you want to play in right now.

I believe I read you can only pre-register for over 2weeks in advance, that's why all the events for the next 14 days are 'closed' and all the later ones are not.

not sure what the answer is to the question though but pretty sure that's the reason you cant preregister for an event that starts in the next 14days.

edit, found the exact words in the 2nd paragraph:
Quote:
. Pre-registration will remain open until two weeks prior to the start of a particular event.

thats a good deal however .. the unlimted call is from your HOME MARKET only.. and you are charged per minutes (pretty much liek roaming) for calls made outside your home market. Metropcs is different in that you still get unlimted calls in every city they have presence.

My turn...

So I'm staying @ the MGM Signature, which has a kitchen in the suite. I'd like to be able to prepare at least a few of my own meals. If I don't have a rental car, how would I get some basic groceries? If there some kind of delivery service I can use?

I don't know anything about your delivery options, but there's stuff within walking distance. The CVS across the street between CityCenter and the Monte Carlo definitely sells food and I'd be somewhat surprised if there's nothing closer than that... pretty sure there's a Walgreens or something on the East side of the street amongst the various stores there (although I don't know if Walgreens sells food because I'm not sure I've ever been inside one). Possibly other stuff too; never had much reason to pay attention.

First answer on Google. There are others as well, or you can just take a taxi and have him wait for you while you run in and get a few things.

Google works, fwiw.
