Hi,
I read at The Venetian website that

A cash or credit card deposit of $150.00 per night is required upon check in for incidentals and the balance of room and tax for the remainder of your stay

Ive already booked and paid for the room in full, on expedia.
Will I still have to deposit 8x $150?

If I use my credit card for the deposit, will the money reappear in my balance immediately after my check out?

In my experience, big corporations are not that fast when it comes to paying back their customers, and if it involves international transactions, (I'm from Sweden) fees might be involved.

Not sure how this works. Ive deposited for rooms in Vegas before but then it was just like $200 (Flamingo). $1200 seems a bit much. Almost like they expect me to trash the room or something

Its not like I'm on a super tight budget but I can think of better things to do with my money in Vegas than to have it locked up in a room deposit.

that seems really weird. did you copy/paste that from the website?

maybe they just need one $150 deposit for the whole stay.

I copied it directly from their website

i just re-read it again. it does not seem to be a $150 deposit for each night, i think the $150 includes the price of the room as well. how much are you paying for the room? if the rate is $130/night, you are only paying a $20 deposit per night.

ok.
I payed about $125/night so maybe I wont have to deposit so much after all.

anyway, even if they try to charge you a $1200 deposit (i don't think they will), i don't think they will actually deduct it from your account and then refund you. they will simply place a hold on the funds, and they will release the hold when you check out, its much more timely than a refund.

Hookers and dealers don't usually take credit cards.

You should double check this, though!! Call V and ask, because my understanding is that this is _exactly_ what they do, and that it sometimes takes quite some time to have that money refunded back (to your C/C at least).

I have never stayed at V, but I feel really confident in what I'm saying for some reason. Try searching, since I'm sure I have read discussion on this in the forums somewhere.

Going in August with many buddies, staying at the Venetian.

We'll be looking for a basketball court for a little pickup ball. Would we find one in our hotel, a nearby hotel? Or would it be best to check out a nearby fitness center/UNLV?

ADDED QUESTION: Any benefit to signing up for their loyalty program now vs. when we arrive?

So I did a quick search and found -- and maybe this is what I'm thinking of -- that if you're staying on the poker rate they still charge your full rack rate up front and then refund it later. This can be in the form of a check in 10-15 business days (if you paid in cash), or a c/c refund whenever they get around to it. (cf Venetian Noob)

In any case, it's always best to call the hotel and get their policies up front (and preferably in writing).

My understanding is that the poker room manager is incredibly helpful if you're getting the poker rate, so that's a good person to call if you're playing. There are several recent threads about V & P in LVL that may also be of help.

on the strip...i do not believe there are any basketball courts there. you should locate some of the nearby gyms using google and find one that has basketball courts, not all of them do!

unlv is really nice, but it's not really an option, you can pay like $10 for a day pass but you have to be with a student or current member to get in. and i'm not taking you !!!!

it certainly won't hurt you to sign up for rewards program now, doubt it will help much.

can you clarify what you are asking? do you mean, which company to book with? or how to book a car in las vegas, in person, without booking in advance? if it's the latter...

to book a car in person in las vegas, you will take one of the many shuttles to the car rental facility, off site. the shuttles run constantly, there will probably be one waiting there when you walk up to the spot. it's a very large facility with every company having a booth. however, i highly recommend you book in advance, because the lines can be very long there and you don't want to wait in line for 45 minutes to be told they don't have any cars available.

This might be a ******ed question but....I'm coming to Vegas in June/July for the series and planned on driving. My car is black with completely black interior and I will not have a garage. I've never experienced 115 degree heat before. Will my car almost become to hot to even sit in?

yes.

Get one of those things you put across the dashboard to block the sun. It's gonna be hot. I'm doing the same thing, and I have black leather, but my car will be in a casino garage

Basically, and it doesn't matter what color your car is. It won't be comfortable at all but since you're never driving far distances you'll survive. When you're going someplace make sure to park it in covered parking or use a valet that has covered parking, if you plan on picking it up during the day.

On one of my drives back to LA in July, I left it in the uncovered lot at the Hard Rock until about 3pm before hitting the road. Big mistake. If I had just been driving across town I could handle it but by the time I reached Primm I was about ready to pass out. No amount of AC can uncook a car when it's that hot out.

for desert driving I recommend polarized sunglasses, not just regular dark ones.
