Visiting June 9th-19th with a buddy. What are the best value upmarket and mid range hotels on the strip. Preferably not too far from the Rio. Thanks.

I'm thinking about booking a weekend at the Palazzo. Is it worth it compared to the Venetian? How accessible is the Venetian poker room in relation to the hotel? Going there with my wife, so keeping her happy while I play 6+ hours/day is a must!

Thanks!
Doug

If you are actually playing 6+ hours a day, get the poker rate and go for the Palazzo concierge suites (assuming they are priced right for the rate). The walk from the elevators to the V poker room is longer but not terrible and the Palazzo is better and the concierge suite lounge access is a great value add in the morning and at happy hour times. This has been discussed in pretty great detail in the B&M threads devoted to the Venetian. Check there for details on the poker rate.

Thanks David!

I'm familiar with the poker rate..., probably the #1 reason I am considering staying there. I have read good things about the concierge level here, but I wanted to be certain I wasn't glossing over something that I'd come to regret later. I just hadn't seen many comparisons between the Palazzo and the standard Venetian rooms.

Thanks again!

TI is the best location/value for the mid range places imo.

I like Venetian the best of all the places I stayed in, but its quite a bit more expensive.

Do they actually uphold their end of a room upgrade? I don't want a $50 activity card. Also does this work for comped rooms?

I'm staying at the MGM currently on the PRIMA program. We had two nights booked and decided to stay another three. The room upgrade is great. We have the spa suite I think. A very nice room with some kind of asian theme. We had a different room that was non-smoking with two beds and then was able to switch to our current room with a king size bed and a view of the strip.

The 500 dollars was an ez sell. I got tickets to see Love at the Mirage then ate at craftsteak and qualified. Other assorted benefits include two for one entrees at MGM fine dining restaurants, 2 for one drinks at the lounges, and a bunch of other things. For a 5 night stay, I would have agreed to even 1K, since it's easy to spend $150 a day after spending roughly $320 on Love tix.

My first trip to Vegas will be June 25-July 6th ish.

I have a friend out in Vegas so I don't plan on spending much time at my hotel, so I'm going economy friendly. I plan on playing a couple WSOP events at the Rio, and more of the Venetian deep stack events too.

I'm combining my flight+hotel, and it's basically down to

Imperial Palace for $825

or

Stratosphere Tower for $875

From what I hear Stratosphere is a better place to stay in terms of ameneties by far, but i'm not familiar with Vegas, tell me why I should pick one or the other. I will be walking/cabbing to my play.

Is that quote for flight and 13 days hotel??

Normally booking a "package" the travel site just adds the two together and you don't save money. Book separately and rent a car which will pay for itself.

IF you are set on those two, the IP is an easy walk to all of the major poker rooms.

Yeah, the flight+hotel imperial palace, $825 on the site (Chicago o'hare to las), I imagine there will a few fees along the way so I'll probably be paying closer to $900 when it's all done, but I think I'll save about $100 by combining on the site, though I should look at poker rates before booking.

Thanks for the advice, Ill call the Venetian and see what they can do for me, I remember reading a thread that had the discount code in it for the poker rate. If not the I'll stay at the IP to make it an easy walk.

I booked Venetian for around that exact same time frame and the weekday poker rate was $89 + the resort fee of $17, so $106/nt.

Between the two you posted, IP by a long shot just because the Strat is a bad location. And if you wanna eat cheap there is a Mickey Ds, Panda Express, Chipotle, NY Pizza, Subway, and Burger King all right next door or close to it.

Between those 2 it's IP all the way. They're both ****holes but at least one ****hole is central to everything else and not all the way off in Crackden.

HOWEVER! If you're only looking at travel packages you might be missing out on a similar deal at a slightly less crappy hotel. Always check the hotel website for their rates.

The rooms are the same size and same layout, but the Palazzo rooms are newer and more modern in design.

and

a room at one of the signature towers junior suite.

looks like the room at the signature is smaller. but does it's amenities more than make up for the size?

thanks!

Only casino I've played at is the local one here. You go there get seated, give dealer cash and he gives you chips. Is it the same in Las Vegas or do you go to like a cashier and buy chips and then bring them to the table with you?

When you want o go for a smoke here you just ask for a "marker" and they giver you a white chip to put on the table in front of your seat. Or umm, can you smoke at the table in Vegas? I smoke an electronic cigarette and would rather go outside anyway because whenever I smoke it around people I have to explain everything about the product. Thanks.

Getting chips: Depends on the casino. For example, MGM Grand's poker room will direct you to be seated, and a runner will get the chips for you. Planet Hollywood, you buy the chips at the Podium in which you sign up for a game.

All poker areas in Vegas are non-smoking. Bills Gambling Hall and O'Sheas may be the exceptions. If you want to go smoke, simply leave the table.
