Across the highway from NY, NY and T-Mobile Arena.

A's new stadium will be at the site of the old Wild West Casino / Days Inn on Tropicana Ave. just west of I-15. The team purchased it from Stations Casinos.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/...s%20now%20play.

Good riddance Wild West. The area around there will probably be a lot nicer with the stadium than it is now, or was when I stayed there in 2014. I made late plans to arrive on a Saturday during WSOP, and every decent hotel was either booked or very expensive. I thought, how bad could it be? Disgusting! The 1st thing I saw when I parked to check in was a used condom baking in the mid day sun. People staying and playing there were trashy and seedy. Bad vibes. I checked out early after 2 nights into The Orleans, which seemed luxurious in comparison.

That sounds like it's going to make it really tough to get to the Orleans on game nights.

Saw an article the other day, it said "near I-15 and Tropicana", but wasn't precise.

Rio owner's just raised $850mil to remodel the resort. They said they'd be open for a baseball stadium there but I assume that would have been way smaller than the 49 acres the A's are purchasing now.

I am going to Vegas in June and want to grind some 2/5 cash. I'll be staying in MGM and wanted some advice on the best places to play, where i can:

Enjoy myself

Get good comps

Avoid long waits

Avoid professionals who are grinding these low stakes for a job

Find fun people drinking and not just sitting there with headphones on

Thanks

Comp rates are **** in Vegas compared to Vegas prices.

WSOP will be going on, so long wait lists and you will have to table hop / casino change if you want to avoid pro and semi pro grinders.

Let me know when you find this mythical poker room, I’d love to play there

Especially during the WSOP this sounds like wishful thinking.

Idk about comps but Caesars has had the most chill 2/5 in Vegas from my experience. If you happen to be diamond you can go to the top of the list

I have no idea about current casino building and renovation costs, but that sounds obscenely high to me. Has anything similar been renovated for a cost that high?

Read the announcement again, looks like only a portion of that $850mil raised will go towards Rio but they didn't say how much. My bad.

Remodel cost at the Venetian have been announced at "North of a billion dollars". But that's obviously a totally different resort.

Luxor is the ONLY HOTEL I have ever stayed at where the toilets would not flush in my room... true story.

I also recently went out of my way to see the new Tutankhamun exhibit... I was understandably excited because I was lucky enough to see the original Tutankhamun tour from the 1970's in LA. What a bunch of Bullshyte this was... It's just an exhibit of nothing but all HORRIBLE reproductions.

don't give Luxor your money.

I've stayed there and had a nice time.
OP was debating about Excalibur.
plenty of people complain about Excal and I can't imagine the average stay is worse at Luxor

Sounds like players without status should avoid this place.

Here's the thing. People with Diamond status or better tend to be either your run of the mill gamblers or shitreg locals who played tons of hours at 34 tier credits an hour to reach diamond. These are players you want at your table. The lines are hours long at every poker room across the strip during the WSOP. So it's not a longer wait at Caesar's. And the competition is typically less pro heavy versus Wynn/Bellagio/Aria. Of course, I have "fake" diamond (Wyndham CC) status. So I get to have my cake and eat it too during WSOP at Caesar's.

Comps are not really a major factor for poker players. But for the small amount you get, Caesar's properties win in this regard versus MGM properties.

Planning on staying at Vdara during WSOP but am worried that the Bellagio connector being closed will make the walk to Horseshoe a huge pain in the ass - anyone tried that walk recently who can opine as to whether that would have you re-think things? I really liked not being in a casino for WSOP last year; other options I’m considering would be the Westin, Elara, maybe Waldorf Astoria.

Is the Vdara - Bellagio connector closed permanently?

In that case the easiest way might be to use Cosmopolitan Service Road. You can get there through the big staircase outside Vdara main entrance. Apparently there's also an elevator inside Vdara that gets you there but I've never tried that out.

Closed until August so they can connect to Cosmo, as I understand it. The biggest problem I think is that there’s no sidewalk on the north side of Harmon - I tried that last year and wound up having to awkwardly hop the fence in front of Starbucks in front of like 280 people.

Knew they were doing construction, but didn't think about the existing walkway being closed but I guess that makes sense.
