Better to start at 6am and only the Ice Box Canyon trail and even then you are putting yourself in danger of heat injuries.

Better to just walk around in the shops and convention centers that have lots of stairs you can climb.

Or someone said it's only $4 for a day pass at a community center gym near Twain.

For some time, I have been having trouble feeling sleepy way too early too, but then getting up way too early. In terms of Vegas time, I have been getting sleepy and going to bed around 7:30pm, but then getting up anywhere from 2:30am to 4:30am.

Are there any poker rooms that will have action during the week at 2:30am?

This crazy sleep pattern is putting the upcoming Vegas trip in jeopardy.

My wife gave me an OTC sleep aid last night and I dreamt I got pulled over for DUI and then busted for attempting to buy marijuana.

Wow really that bad? The point isn’t to get exercise it’s to experience red rocks.

Sounds like it would be a bad experience.

what is high heat to you? it would be about 85-90 degrees there this time of year that time of morning.

if u can live with those temps then yes it is a great place to go hike around and get some exercise. a lot less crowded this time of year as well.

Yeah I would say go "experience" it, walk around, take pictures, etc. But I wouldn't plan to hike. The trails tend to be poorly marked, and - maybe an unpopular opinion - i tend to find that the hikes themselves are not very scenic unless you get to a vista (and usually this is a pretty decent hike). The "red rocks" are best viewed from a bit of a distance, and the 26(?) mile scenic loop gives you plenty of opportunities to experience them.

That said, I like Calico Tanks, and you might be fine starting at 8am, but bring lots of water, change of clothes, etc. I got engaged on that hike!

Yea that’s what I was thinking — I don’t mind that at all.(80-90 degrees). Was kind of surprised to hear “high risk of heat injury.”

We would obviously hydrate heavily and expect to be super sweaty at the end but are not interested in anything risky.

It's been years since I've been there, but as I recall the temperatures at Red Rock are significantly lower than on the strip. Also, there are some trails that aren't very long. One goes to a site of thousands of years old petroglyphs that are interesting, if you are into ancient human artifacts as I am.

I think another trail takes one to an mid-19th century farm house that isn't too far away, and the rocks are always right there and fun to walk/clamber over.

I’ve been to Red Rock in warmer conditions and didn’t think it was bad at all.

That said, cell phone service is spotty at best in my experience. So I wouldn’t go out alone. And unless you and your partner have experience hiking together, I would make sure the car or another option for help is always within reach. That’s smart advice anyway but even more important in a location that heats up significantly during the day.

What are the poker tournaments like in Las Vegas when the series isnt on. I am going there later in the year with some friends and might fly in a few days early if there is anything decent I can play.

I found a list on cardplayers.com of daily mtts but for the most part they seem underwhelming with buy ins of around 60 - 150 dollars. Is there anything bigger going on and if so where can I find out more?

Specify your dates beyond "this year".

Cardplayer shcedule is indeed very underwhelming.

For example, I'm going September 13th and there happens to be a Venetian series with decent tournies going on.

Beginning of October im going.

How did you find out about that series? Im struggling to find big tournies/series outside the WSOP when I search through google.

Just saw that there is a decent looking series at the Venetian the week after I leave unfortunately. There has to be a quicker way than googling every poker venue individually though?

Do you have the Bravo app on your phone?

I find it to be way better than cardplayer.com.

I just realized I should tell you it is called Bravo Poker Live.

I don't want you downloading something called Bravo app and finding out you can now check when Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is on.

Having read about some of the issues various cast members have, it would probably be strip poker.
