Can someone quickly tell me about the Wynn buffet new signup offer. How many points to get the free buffet; how many pts per dollar-in at slots and at VP?

MGM have brought back a promo for two free show tickets on any booking of 2 nights or more

couldn't get it working for my booking for some reason (possibly relating to some ongoing issues I have with having accidentally opened two different m-life accounts that were then merged badly), but stole this off a Vegas board where most people have been reporting success, including for comped rooms

Nice that’s awesome, I already had a reservation I made a month ago but put in confirmation code and seems to have gotten me two Cirque tickets

Is there somewhere cheap I can stay that is within walking distance to the Orleans?

What about The Orleans hotel?

They have rooms for $60ish on weekdays.

Yeah, I guess they're not too bad. With tax/resort fees, it's more like $80 a night though. The cheapo options on the strip still work out to like $60-something a night anyway. I guess I'm spoiled from when I stayed at the quad years ago for like $30-something a night after resort fees.

The only places that are an easy walk to the Orleans are places that look kinda sketchy and a lot of people here will tell you to stay away from. No personal experience with them myself.

What about walking to the Orleans from an on the strip hotel? Doesn't look too far on google maps, but it's hard to tell if it's actually a realistic option.

It's not, it's sketchy as hell.

What makes the Orleans your hot-spot of choice?

I walked it once in the summer; I regretted it. I didn't find it that sketchy, but it's certainly not a nice walk.

I walked from the Rio to The Orleans in the past, not a sketchy walk but also nothing to rave about or anything I want to do again. Took me 20-25 minutes IIRC. Wouldn't want to walk from the Strip.

Omaha Hi-Lo is my favorite game, and for some reason the Orleans has become the Vegas mecca for it.

not being on foot outside of the Orleans inner perimeter is the optimal play regardless of anecdotes imo.

They have a shuttle service to mid-strip.

walking is for poor people.

If someone can't afford to rent a car, hire a taxi or book uber then they probably shouldn't be going to vegas.

I came for a job interview and to nut peddle low stakes hi-lo to get some entertainment value out of the trip, not to ball out hiring private drivers and stuff.

Jesus, I feel terrible for the Orleans dealers, there is an alarming amount of unpleasant regs. Bunch of sore losers and bad winners. Outright abrasive people. I saw a guy call a dealer a ****ing idiot today over the mistaken availability of a 4/8 limit seat.

Did Vegas like explode with asians recently? I was here like 6-7 years ago and didn't really notice such an extreme amount of asians. The wiki only says 6% of the pop. is azn from the census of 8 years ago. If I had to guess after this trip, I would've guessed like 30%. I know it's a lot of tourists I'm seeing in the area, but I've seen the trend from people who are definitely local. Small sample size though.

as i understand it, try to buy a house/property around here and they’ll be putting you to a test for all of your mortgage app (but not as a primary residence)

That sounds like a normal crowd for omaha hi/lo anywhere in the country.

Well, 90% of the O8 action in the country is prolly at the Orleans since it's unpopular and the playerbase is literally dying off. I still sorta disagree, I've been a semi-regular at a long running game in the past and the majority of the players were super nice retirees. The kind of game where you actually feel sorta bad when you crush.

sadly this was part of my reasoning, even when it’s not 100+ out this is not a good region to be near cars without a car

I like playing Omaha hi-lo (and holdem) at The Orleans too, when I visit Las Vegas. As long as you're not expecting glitz, high end amenities and sexy young women, The Orleans is great. Plus, McMullans Irish Pub is across the street, good 24 hr food and drink and a respite from cheesy casino atmosphere!

The Orleans will have more grumpy regulars, and less drunken tourists than on the strip, but it's an excellent, well run poker room for low limit players, with plenty of tables and plenty of action from plenty of bad players. I like the comps and promotions too. I've hit small pieces of jackpots a few times. They collect $2 for promotions, but only drop $3 per hand, which I believe is overall a comparatively decent deal. Restaurants are more reasonably priced, so Boyd comp dollars go further than at Caesars or MGM properties.

Hotel room rates and fees are reasonable, though not as dirt cheap as they used to be. The rooms are large and adequate, but nothing special. I usually stay at The Orleans when I travel solo or with a friend. When with my wife, I prefer nearby Palms Place condos.

If you need to save money, stay at the Gold Coast (also Boyd property) and use the free shuttle to Orleans or strip. Take the advice here seriously. Don't walk around at night too far from the above mentioned major casino hotels, because it is potentially unsafe. During the day it isn't necessarily unsafe to walk around, but it's definitely dirty and downtrodden.

Went downtown last night for the first time, it was a really cool vibe walking around. Way more interesting than the strip. Hot photo op girl in a slingshot bikini made me regret my entire life. Played at the Golden Nugget for a minute, lol, funny to think that High Stakes Poker was filmed there (obviously not in the exact room). That room has the most depressing lighting I've ever seen, really makes you feel like you're playing poker in a seedy joint, the kind of place a Sherlock Holmes-type would go to question unsavory people. Probably the softest $1/$2 game I've ever seen though.
