Anyone know of any jobs available for a chef or line cook? There has got to be a couple restaurants hiring in Vegas right? Preferably a casual/fine dining restaurant not associated or within a casino, but beggars cant be choosers so I'll consider anything.

Also not afraid of any hard labor.

I've never been to Death Valley, but Yosemite and Sequoia are both great. You can't go wrong with either of them. Your only regret will be not having more time there. Sequoia is ahead of Yosemite for me because it will always be the park where I had my first views/experiences with black bears. They will probably be getting active about that time of year, I think. Also, the trees are just amazing. They have them at both parks, but the Mariposa Grove in Yosemite has been closed for renovations this year, I think, although it should be open again by then. Sequoia will probably be less crowded also if that's a factor. Yosemite is more awesome on a Grand Scale with all the huge rocks and huge views.

I was hoping for leads, seeing as I'm not in town yet and can't physically look around myself. Help and networking is what they call it and that's why I'm asking.

Now since I told you why I am asking, can you tell me why you responded with no help whatsoever?

This should be one of the last places you look for a job whether you’re in town or not. You could go to any job website and look for a cook job in Las Vegas. If you didn’t know that previously though, I’m not certain you’re qualified for gainful employment. Don’t tell your interviewer about this if you’re fortunate enough to get one. Best Wishes, and thoughts and prayers.

I assume you have experience working as a line cook. Are you from a small town with little restaurants? In major cities with boatloads of restaurants, turnover in kitchens is insane and therefore there are always a multitude of restaurants hiring.

I remember when my wife worked as a server, it seemed like half the kitchen staff had changed every time I visited her in the restaurant. Except for the head chef, everybody in the kitchen wanted to get “promoted” to food runner because they got a small tip share. In hindsight, that was a pretty sexist workplace. Kitchen was 100% male at minimum wage, regular wait staff was 100% female who got really good tips.

someone else chimed in about Yosemite & Sequoia (which I've never been to but want to go to); I'll chime in about Death Valley.

If you think the desert is beautiful then you'll want to check it out, if not then don't bother. The bottom half of the park is almost like being on another planet; the landscapes are like no other in the United States. the top half of the park is not as exciting but you will for sure want to go to Scotty's Castle and tour it, it is really neat. also there are ghost towns in the Death Valley area but you will have to use an off-road vehicle and do some hiking to get to them. there also is a ghost town just east of Death Valley called Rhyolite that you can access by a regular car - there are paved roads that run thru it.

Yeah in terms of what there is to see, give it a few hours in Death Valley to drive around, but other than the salt flats it's pretty much just desert landscape. Which is great, don't get me wrong, but I would put more emphasis on Yosemite and Sequoia. You could easily spend 4 days in Yosemite doing some amazing hikes - though even late April is tough, as there will still be a lot of snow on the ground at elevation, and I am near certain that Half Dome will be closed. If you're primarily driving (not hiking) you'll get the gist of Yosemite in a full day, and you'll definitely be good to go with 2 days allocated to it. If you are up for a good (half day) hike while you're there, you'll have options, but check with the rangers. Hiking to the top of Vernal Falls and continuing up to the top of Nevada Falls would be my choice. The snow will be starting to melt, so the falls should be starting to pick up. Bring lunch.

I've been to Sequoia but just passing through. Didn't hike it, so not sure what's available/good. Was worth a brief visit - the trees are amazing.

Any suggestions on most reasonable way for about 8 people to get to red rocks canyon for the day from the strip?? Having to rent 2 cars for half a day seems like a pain, but the tours I immediately find on google are rather expensive.

Any suggestions?

It should cost you more than renting two cars, but it is possible to rent a van like a Ford Transit that can carry 8+ people for less than the tours you are looking at.

Didn’t Dubai World and MGM sell the Crystals Mall last year for 1.1bln?

Would be a very MGM-esque move to buy out Dubai World after telling investors at every earnings call over the last couple of years that they are looking into options to liquidate assets.

You can take the Deuce bus. Leaves from Harrah’s and takes about 20 minutes. Uber will also be significantly cheaper than a cab.

This will get me ridiculed again, but walking is actually not that bad. Center strip to downtown is ~4 miles and takes a fast walker around an hour. If you have time to kill and want to save money, walk there and take the bus back.

That’s also one of my standard routes for an early morning run, 8 miles there and back ~= 1 hour.

Yeah except at surge times i would guess like $7 for an uber downtown. Maybe slightly less for pool and slightly more for not pool.
