I was quite happy with my MC room from last summer. NYNY rooms are fine too.

Excalibur rooms are showing their age and like Circus Circus, attracts a lot of families with young children, so you can expect to hear a lot of squealing, crying kids.

Pretty sure the power plant tour is just that - you get to go into the area where the giant turbines are. The dam tour figures to include that plus getting to walk around in some tunnels inside the dam and also getting to go out on the dock at the bottom of the dam. The latter was the tour I took way back pre-9/11. I heard some areas were made off limits post 9/11 but I don't know which ones.

which tour company to use...Pink Jeep Tours seems to be pretty popular, I see them everywhere.

good to know - but to be more specific - the tour companies don't advertise which version of the tour they have. They all describe 'vip tour' or some other language which really could be either one. So I guess I'm asking if they all do the 'powerplant tour', or if anybody can attest one of them that has the longer 'dam tour' as part of their package?

Hello guys,

I`m going to Vegas for the first time this year and I`m thinking which hotels should I book (4* and 5*). Are there any hotels which offer some kind of loyalty cards with which you are earning points for playing cash games?

Re: car rental.

I have only once ever rented a car before so am not too familiar with the process.

In general, what booking sites are ppl using for the best rates? Would be taking the shuttle to the rent a center but those companies website direct seem awfully high. Going for a week Sat-Sat in mid June.

Not necessarily looking for a convertible but also not a Geo Metro. Something reasonable to get around in.

4 or 5 star would be Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn/Encore, Ceasars all of which have rewards cards. Go on line to MLife.com, totalrewards.com or the other two properties and sign up or even call them direct. All but total rewards have a poker rate so check that out if you are going to play 6 or so hours in a specific room. Mirage is a great option for a lessor room rate. You will not get much for comps with just poker but most rooms have $1 or $2 per hour for food or comps. The MGM property poker comps can only be used in certain places in that specific hotel.

I always go right to the main company website (budget.com is my go to usually) and then verify the price with a place like orbitz.com. The price is higher if you get at the airport center due to all the extra taxes there. You can also get at most hotels, but it is hit or miss on if the cost is less or not.

In the past year or two I have skipped the car and used Uber/Lyft to get around, only down side is if you want to drive to a lot of different places like Hover Dam. Remember, you have to add in the cost of parking if staying at MLife or CES properties now days.

Thanks for the reply. Yes we will be driving to a few off strip properties. Downtown, railroad pass, etc, so will be using uber in town but wouldn't be ideal overall. Also staying at TI, so good on the parking fees....for now. Thanks for the info. Will look into all that.

We always use autoslash.com. They will give you a million options for car/price/pickup location etc. If you're a costco member, they report getting great prices.

Uber in LV ftw, though, if you're staying in the general strip area.

Those are all 5-star aside from Caesars Palace which is a 4-star. However, those aren't all the 5-star hotels in Vegas and there are a ton more 4 star hotels.

Costcotravel.com is a good place to check along with all the other sites. Also, you don't pay in advance, so it's super easy to continue checking prices and rebook if the cost goes down.

My one and only car rental in the past was actually through Costco travel. Got a great deal through it. Not so much this time.

Best on Costco was about $230-250USD, ended up booking on Travelocity for $215CAD, for a full size 7 full days.

Are dining questions outside of the 2 dining thread verbotten? I was looking for recs on nice places to eat at the bar as a solo diner and wasn't sure it that's threadworthy or which of the dining threads it might fit in.

I am sure there are many dine at the bar places but at most of them that are primarily a bar, allow smoking at the bar. So if that bothers you, look elsewhere.

Might be fun to check out Carson Kitchen. It's very good with some unique dishes.

Interestingly enough, there was a whole thread about solo dining at the bar as well.

Virtually every restaurant allows dining at the bar, and state law prohibits smoking in restaurants- which means if he's looking for a bar to eat at, there will be no smoke.

Wow. If you eat sushi, and haven't tried sitting at the bar, you are missing out big time.

Eating at the bar is one of the first life hacks you learn as an adult

Seems like the worst spot in the house to me. The seats are uncomfortable and you generally have your back to the entire restaurant and you have some bartender dude right in your face while you are trying to eat.
