The CDC don't recommend it any more. One state will have a mask mandate by the end of this month, Hawaii. It's really quite simple, Steve. The benefits of forcing everyone to wear a mask indoors in public no longer outweigh the negatives, such as deaf people struggling to lipread, autistic people having major issues just even trying to wear one, the struggle to make conversation in public.

Covid is here to stay, and it's something we are going to have to learn to live with. We'll get the opportunity to get a shot for it every year, and in its current form it'll be a nasty bug that lays the vast majority of people out for a few days, and then they move on with their life. People will be able to choose whether they wish to go out with a mask on, or no mask. I'll be in the latter group. What I'll do, instead, to protect people, is regularly test, and if I test positive...I'll stay in my house, having no contact with anyone bar my partner, until I test negative.

Oh, and before you even go down that road, I'm British. I didn't vote for Trump, or his equivalent over here. I'm just a regular joe who's sat around during the pandemic and watched as my country's leaders have let Omicron rip through us with no mask mandates, no social distancing, and case numbers are still falling, with hospitalisations going down, numbers of people on ventilators due to COVID going down, and deaths because of COVID, guess what, going down. Because of that, despite me being more vulnerable due to existing health conditions, I'm getting back out and enjoying my life. Feel free to do the same, Steve. Just don't, you know, try and force your beliefs on me or anyone else here. You're no better than the white supremacists otherwise.

Original COVID with no vaccinations? Yes, absolutely masks should have been mandated. Lockdowns were needed and this all saved many lives in many countries.

Now, with a version of COVID that does less damage to the majority of the population? No. People deserve to have their choice. Masks are NOT the only way to defend against COVID, if anything vaccinations are more important.

As for kids wearing masks in schools, get the hell out of here. To kids, COVID is nothing more than a bad cold ffs. Adults want kids to wear masks in schools to selfishly protect the adults, not kids, so take that idea and shove it. The negatives of kids mandated to wear masks in schools, or learn at home, are so much more than the benefits of masks for the population least likely to suffer from COVID that it's insulting.
