Today, I heard from a dealer in the room that the room is closing. There is suppose to be an all dealer mandatory meeting tomorrow morning, May 19th, 2017 at 9:30 am.

During this meeting the dealers are to be informed about all of the specifics (when, what jobs they may transfer to - if any, what will happen with the jackpot money, etc.).

I don't think this should come as a major surprise given how lack luster the poker room as been in terms of the number of games they get.

I am surprised that they remained open as long as they did.

Didn't Pokerkraut just get a job here after they closed the room at the Linq? That stinks.

You know those nights when you keep breaking tables. Your table breaks and you get put on a new one and after 20 minutes, that one breaks. You get sat at another one and boom, 25 minutes and it breaks. I think PokerKraut is getting that right now but with poker rooms and dealer jobs. I hope he'll be able to collect unemployment again (if he did last time, I'm not sure).

Maybe they will transfer him to a table games dealer?

In terms of Luxor, this makes perfect sense. The room never had much traction the past few years. They would get a fun game going once in a while but no need to have a room between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur. There is a tram connecting all 3 so it's easy to send players next door to your partner casino.

.

I could be wrong but would think most poker dealers have no desire to deal table games.

Seems silly to close it two weeks before the WSOP starts. Don't all rooms get a spike in traffic? Close after the Series and at least pull in some revenue for a month and a half.

Years ago I learned to play teh holdem at Luxor. 9 friends and I were passing by and we saw people playing some weird ass poker where everyone only got two cards and the dealer put a bunch in the middle. They opened up a new table for us and taught us all the basics of the game like how to post blinds and how you should tip 10% of the pot every hand.

So, yeah, **** the Luxor.

They really told you to tip 10%? lol
It most rooms just mentioning tipping to a customer would get you fired.

I overheard an exchange between a player and a dealer where the player said "Did I get you on that last hand?" and the dealer says "Yeah" and the guy tosses her another chip saying "I heard you get written up if you answer 'no'" and the dealer confirmed that was true.

Luxor closing really won't be a great loss. I suspect TI isn't far from closing either. Maybe a couple others too.

Interestingly the off strip locals places seem to be doing well - Orleans, Red Rock, etc.

After Monte Carlo closed its room, Luxor became my next favourite "small room".

I guess, I'm the kiss of death. Watch out Sam's Town poker room employees, because now your my top small room.

I liked Luxor's poker room better than the rooms at Excalibur and Mandalay Bay. I thought the staff was friendliest of the three, and their donkaments had the best structure of the three rooms. The 20 minute levels were nice compared to 15.

Is the Luxor poker room closing confirmed or is it just strong rumour at this point?

Do you think now that parking costs money, locals are avoiding the strip poker rooms?

Well on the plus side, maybe I'll get to enjoy some of the JackPot Money Showering that is hopefully likely as I'll be in town for its closing weeks. The deal they had at Hooters a few years ago wasn't bad - $100/hour for the HH (no qual) and it ran for like 6 weeks. I won a few with Ace high flush and something like 7s full. I liked it as a great room for beginners. They offered a daily "class" teaching the game, which is probably where trying to teach tipping came into play. I've never heard a dealer recommend tipping during an actual game. Seems like really weird timing to close in the middle of the series. That is one time of year where even the smaller rooms are full most of the time. I can see announcing the closure for after, but 17 June seems bizarre.

Good for me though I'll take it. Here's to hoping for favorable give-a-ways.

The closing will surely help the Excalibur.

Their 9am and 1pm donkaments and cash games should fill up nicely with low-rollers, especially during the WSOP..

Back in olden times before the poker boom Luxor had one of the few tournaments available. The Mirage was the big room back then and held nightly tourneys but the only daytime tournies on the strip were the 10am at the Mandalay Bay and then the noon at the Luxor.

Both of these tournies started out as limit for the first few levels and then went to no limit at about level 4. One of them was $30 and one was $40 and they went quick so you could play them both. I won both of them in one day once And won each a handful of times as the competition was weak and the structure really bad.

But once poker boomed everyone started running full slates of tournaments all day long and I never made the trip back to those but they will always be a poker memory for me. The Luxor noon was the first tournament I ever won.

used to play at luxor pretty regularly 4-5 years ago. sat at many donk tables on weekends and have some pretty good memories there. sorry to hear this news but not really shocked. as others have said, they could never seem to keep more that one table going at any time.

mandalay bay seems to be drawing all of the poker traffic nowdays in that region of the strip from what I've experienced.

This is the only room on the strip I never played at.
I tried a few times, but the wait was always too long. E.g. they'd have 1 table and a 3 person waiting list.

Hence, **** the Luxor.

I mean to be clear it was 2/4 LHE with 10 super passive players so I think it usually worked out to $2, but still, it was a huge douche move.

Thanks for the tip. However, at this point, I am avoiding playing at places that charge for parking. They should see their business suffer (if it, in fact, does) so that they do the math. I know that this means not playing at as many places on the strip as before, but I believe that it does mean at least the Wynn and the Venetian. Are there any others that I am missing?

I would also avoid supporting the Venetian and Devil Adelson, unless you don't care about ever playing online poker in the US..

The $6 max rake they have is enough reason for me to play elsewhere
