eh unfortunately made the slightly painful decision to put all my time/energy/focus on the cash games this summer so I wont be doing any formal/planned packages. If I'm running well I may jump into some Rio daileys and the occasional smaller PHo/GN/VDS event + it's very likely I will play the series megastack or w/e. also quite likely I'll fire 2-3 sattys for the main and If I get seat may sell some small %.

just got back from out of town and want to get things geared up for some summer action updates on here. as obscenely well as I ran that first 100ish hours/month back at the live games, I have run that much worse the second and pretty much invalidated/nerfed the progress I had made. got absolutely hammered on the kind of downswing I've rarely encountered (myself). tried all the tricks I knew to mitigate it but it was baffling at times...the worst from a statistical standpoint was a night I got 2 outed twice (boat filled on a top bot 2 pair over my set and a str flush rivered my nut (A) flush) but I fared little better outside that.

poker is such a gross pursuit at times...I will keep the whining to minimum but sufficed to say if I could show a pokertracker-esque graph of my expected $ lines as money went in vs my actual run line you would see an amazing looking line shooting up over the month probably coming up on 5 figures and then another line wallowing in the pits of hell that was worse than a mirror image.

so that said I've fallen off pace of where I hoped to be going into the summer action and that's going to limit the stakes and games I can target to some extent. things have finally been turning around for me this last week or so so will try to stay optimistic and just crush out volume over summer while trying to game select and I'm certainly not opposed to firing some sessions at bigger games if running well so we shall see how we come out for the summer.

I'll try to update here with some of the action and will likely get the ole' twitter and snapchat going this week too.

good luck to everyone who will be here for the summer

Poor guy, one day you'll know what's it's like to ACTUALLY run bad.

I concede that Drax is the master of the statistical run-bad. While u can't run worse than I did you can certainly run that bad for a longer period of time . #runlikedrax

Re: Low Level Debauchery in Vegas

Haven't been updating on here for a number of reasons but someone asked me last weekend if I was playing main event and another person ask me why I haven't been posting anything so figured I'd hop on.

I've actually been without a functioning phone so far this summer...I know that sounds insane to some people but I just haven't missed it enough to go in and get a new one so haven't been really getting any pictures/vid or involved on social media.

First few weeks of WSOP went pretty crappy for me, I was highly motivated so putting in a ton of hours and I'm also not going to complain about games not being great because I've been having no trouble finding better than usual games here in Vegas this summer. Unfortunately I ran consistently bad and results were garbage. Lost a few $k in 1-2/1-3 nlh which is gross in itself but also lost in my PLO sessions, only won in 2-5 nlh but not enough volume to make up for the other losses. Pretty much nerfed my very limited tournament plans this year so it's been weird being the first summer in some time I've felt super disconnected from the tournament/series scene...it sucks on one hand because I miss it but at the same time def don't need the extra stress on top of the cash run-bad.

in the last few weeks I've taken a drastically different approach after stabbing at some 10-20 20-40 limit o8 with success. I've now been grinding 20-40 o8 and oe almost exclusively and running ridiculously well. Also took a few profitable shots up at 40-80 when it ran. I realize I'm probably running way over expectation in these games due to my complete lack of experience/history in these or any larger limit games but I do have a pretty solid fundamental grasp of the games and have found some of the competition on the softer than expected side. The limit games feel super odd and even 'wrong' in some sense that's hard to explain and I have to focus more on not tilting and fps just bleeds $ but I have managed to pull out of the nosedive for the summer and even start to snowball some $.

So ya been trying to get in as many hours as I could bc these games do not run with any regularity and/or quality here in Las Vegas so now its back to the low nlh and probably the capped 2-5 and some plo shots going forward. I do hope to be in a position financially to be more aggressive in the cash games as well as grind out a decent mtt schedule next summer but I am excited to see what progress I can make this year if I push myself (to me the new 'year' in regards to poker/work starts at the conclusion of a WSOP). Hopefully it's just solid rungood for a nice chunk of time. I have had the itch to make another vid(s) soon so may get on that now that I'll have some downtime again.

Is that because limit games are faster and more fun than 8 people staring down for 15-30 seconds each decision?

Re: Low Level Debauchery in Vegas

I've been such a bum but for a brief recap I crushed the o8/std8 limit games over series for probably much more than I should have to bail me out of a plo/nlh hole and pocket some modest $.... After series wrapped up I went out of town for a bit and did well playing plo/nlh...Unfortunately since getting back Ive been super unmotivated and have only dragged myself down to strip to play live on Fri and Saturdays.

Part of it is for sure the recent lackluster results plo/nlh even though that's beginning to level itself out more, and part of it is that as stimulating as the change up for those limit mixed games was they just don't go in Vegas outside of during the series at what I would consider a viable stakes. Also the intentional avoidance of poker tournaments this summer had an unexpected negative effect on me in generating an overall feeling of disconnect from the whole poker 'scene' more-so than I've ever had before over a WSOP stretch.

I'm not just sleeping all day or anything but my interests haven't been very poker aligned. I'm doing a lot of reading and outdoors activity, getting back in shape ect. I haven't been waking up wanting to play poker and my general desire to improve my game and push up has been seriously lacking. It sort of creates it's own trap because I do not have the $ to play the stakes/games I would like to whilst at the same time my motivation to put in the work (both mental focus and literal hours/volume) hasn't been strong enough lately to both cover my expenses AND build roll...so in other words I'm currently just floating along at a fairly neutral net (actually bleeding away some $/wk but only marginally)

I'm not hating the feeling right now because maybe I was burning out on the poker and I've been getting a ton of satisfaction from focusing on other things so that may have been something I needed. At the same time it's not a sustainable existence so I'm going to need to find that drive/motivation again soon to put in those 40-50 hr weeks and whatnot.

that's the rant for now, I feel like I need to go do some good food/poker reviews and stuff maybe help get affinity for the strip back again so that may be in the works

they are fun in their own way but felt 'wrong' in how rigid they are. in other words there was much closer to an ideal action for every situation rather than much room for interpretation and if I felt myself getting out of line (fps) had to snap back in order rather than 'experimenting' like I might in a no limit game

Could fps be affecting your NLH and PLO results?

Are you still way over rolled for 1/3 / 2/5 and it's just waiting to get comfortable like you mentioned long while ago?

Post more vids of the Apartments / area of vegas you're in as those were sic vids and definitely made me jelly as I grind out boring jobs.

Re: Low Level Debauchery in Vegas

Between life expenses and grad school classes, over rolled for 1-2/1-3. Probably sufficent for the 2-5 with the exception of the deeper games. Debateably underrolled for plo bc I can verify insane variance in that game.

Been playing online a fair amount last few weeks but will probably 2-5 the V and Bellagio next weekend. Kinda bummed I didn't go to Talking Stick for the mtt this year.

I really should do a vid sometime, trying to keep a sort of continuous timeline with specific objectives for vids was too tedious/time consuming but just pulling one together of a random session or 2 and some Vegas stuff would be fun.

Give it some time.

As the weather improves and the football crowds come to town, you'll find it easier to go to the Strip than mid-week in post-WSOP Las Vegas.
