Met for JimBeam's Sunday poker group out at the coffeehouse today, was more of a casual introductory for myself and the 5 others but was fun and I though productive, we did go over some hands and basic strategy issues and I felt like the wide range of ages/styles between us gave some very interesting perspective outside what I would necessarily think myself. Afterwards grabbed a very decent margarita pizza next door and went home to watch the Saints unfortunately get trounced by Dallas. If anyone in Vegas or visiting is interested in the group check out Jim_Beam's threads here in LVL. Unfortunately I had a few drinks when I got back home to watch the game so while I was far from inebriated I ended up not playing tonight...booze is to me like pot to some people...just makes me want to sit back and not do much; Not really a problem since I drink 2-3 times a month at most.

The pizza at 9th Ave isn't bad at all, but their hot wings are surprisingly spectacular. They have a house made ranch that's really good.

It was great to meet you, I think our playing styles are pretty similar (albeit, I think I'm the black sheep LAG in the bunch) and it's good to swap ideas with like minded folks.

That KJ hand was gross man, I thought about it last night when I went to play, I picked up KJs on the BTN and (lol) opened it for 12$ and got limp raised to 45$ by a nitty white guy. I folded PRE and asked him to show me his KK when it folded around to him and he did!! Exactly KK. hah!

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail the thread. That was from a BMI study of american women that showed how fat they are getting. The study was in Mississippi, which is not necessarily representative of the entirety of american women.

True, Mississippi is about as big as anywhere. I wasn't specifically referring to weight though, I just happen to be a person that finds ethnic girls more aesthetically pleasing on average...just my tastes though.

1) American is not an ethnicity.

2) Someone of native South American stock is significantly different than a native Korean, Indian, Ethiopian, etc.

3) Word choice matters.

hmmm never said it was...let me clarify...I prefer ethnic women (asian, south american, scandanavian, eastern european, mediterranean) types...if they're in america so be it but when talking about american women in gernalities, they dont ususally fall into these categories.

Like the car pics. I've had a few of those cars over the years. The 55 Chevy 2 door post I bought in the late 80's from the original owner for $800. The 62 Thunderbird we bought for $1200 in the late 90's, fixed it up at our shop, sold 250 raffle tickets for $100 each and gave the proceeds to the Kids in Distress Charity.

Good luck with the HPT.

Was holding back on updating just because I haven't been playing much poker this last week. Despite being marginally profitable, the last week (actually 9 days or so) as been some of the lowest volume I have done all year. Was somewhat planned but now I am wanting to put the pedal back down for October. Despite the abysmally low volume, I did do a lot of 'LVL' ish stuff I'll post some pics of and whatnot. Did get out to the Orleans last night to pick up +$375 which was sadly the best session of the last 2-3 weeks.

I was running some errands on Tues (or Wed?) and ended up in an area around the back between the Palms and Chinatown. Saw this little place I had heard good things about so stopped in for lunch. I just got the cheap lunch sort of stuff but saw some really appetizing looking stuff on the menu that would be good for groups ect...all the same it was quite good.

Had these grilling things in the middle of the tables for if you ordered the various Korean BBQ...table next to us did and it looked fun/smelled great.

We just split the $5 beef ramen lunch special which came with some really good kimchee and also split this bento box sort of combo of marinated beef.

I guess in keeping with the little Asian cartoon character theme...gf wanted to go to the Kuma Snow Ice place down the road afterwards...I'm not a big sweets fan so probably can't be very helpful...I mean it was 'ok' and the texture was cool (like snow) but the gf got this gross candy loaded up one with these canned lychees on it I really did not care for.

Thurs (Oct 2nd) was my birthday so we did reservations at Nove Italiano at the Palms. Food was all around really good albeit heavy. We just split a few different things; The standouts were the Bruschetta (a chef choice which this night was like an olive/garlic/anchovy chutney) and the Beef Carpaccio which you had to be a fan of Balsamic as it was nearly glazed in a reduction of it but was amazing. My one peeve for the night was we got this moody prick of a waiter...you would think working at a nice place like that he would attempt to be more pleasant; I'm not too hard to please but come on man...introduce yourself...tell us the specials... Anyways then he goes and includes a 20% gratuity in the bill!?...wtf, I decide if your $%&t service was worth 20% or significantly less (could be more in other cases) can he even do that? I just paid it but regretted later not shorting him on his little self riotous pricing. Anyway, still was a good experience despite the little hickup and the food was good.

Inside and view

Good bread and the awesome Bruschetta

The epic beef carpaccio

Decent rock shrimp gnocci and some kind of lobster pasta

Adequate asparagus...I don't really think it's in season and I compare it to the stuff at 9nine which was far superior

So after dinner we went and did 2 races over at the 'Gene Wood's Racing Experience' over in that sports complex on the corner of Sunset and LVL by the Calaway golf thing. It was a lot of fun, karts were fairly fast and they let you go a long time, though I expected a little more speed/bigger track considering they make you wear these helmets/neck brace things ect.

Also saw this little 'trapeze' thing there we watched some old drunk dude do...looked like fun so have to try it sometime

That's about it for now...I've been playing too many video games/watching too much T.V. ...hopefully will get the poker volume cranked up significantly this month and take some mtt shots as well.

Wtf? Can a waiter really just add his own gratuity?

If that wasn't a restaurant policy I'm 100% stiffing and telling management also.

Nice thread btw!

I will have to try Honey Pig now, I go to Pho So 1 all the time for my pho fix, but never stopped in honey pig which is right next door.

Sounds like a pretty good birthday weekend.

Thx, yeah that's sort of how I felt afterwards...didn't want to sweat nickles and dimes at the time but in retrospect on principle I'm thinking 'this is a TIP...it's not a cost reflective in the menu ect (to my knowledge) and this guy did not do a job that warranted 20%'; So when you think about it, such a policy if that's the case, would more likely create en environment of generally poor service.

hence the poor service
