Rough week in the cash games for around -500ish bbs which culminated in me skipping the Wynn Main mtt. A few hands I played mediocre, more were just unfortunate runouts/coolers, and many I took higher than normal variance lines. As pumped as I was for this event I couldn't get my head in a positive/motivated place coming up on the night before tournament and just had a pessimistic outlook on it which is very rare for me but equally hard to shake.

I leave in a few days to go out of country (Costa Rica) for a week or so then I come back into full cash grind mode again with exception of a few warm up tournaments. I've had way more free time over the last month or two then I had previously become accustomed to and that has translated into a rekindled interest/passion for poker and I have been working hard to catch back up and advance things off the table through various means of training and practice. There are a few coaches I am hoping to work with this summer but all are particularly expensive and/or rarely available. I've also decided to start vlogging again when I return though it will be a stripped down and raw sort of thing without what I view as the negative and stressful side of things I previously encountered (as far as feelings of pressure to have good results and content etc). It should be an interesting time nonetheless as we head into WSOP and I intend to be completely transparent as to my plans/successes/failures this summer. I'll probably have a video up around mid-late April and will post up on here.

Good stuff, looking forward to it.

Costa Rica is sick, wishing I was an online crusher so I could grind there tbh. Food, people and waves all great and the women are hot and plentiful. If one had some baseline of game/looks/$ in respectable proportion could probably bowl a perfect game (girl every night) if so inclined. I have some things to wrap up next few days then it’s back on the grind. I’m playing around with hardware/software options with the intention of publishing some casual vlogs that function as mostly a video journal of my plans/goals this year in poker although I have conceded to put in/break down a few hands of interest, I’ll hopefully get that started before the month is out and will link in here when I do.

Costa Rica

Tamarindo was great party town (like a tame Jaco from what I hear) but waves pretty meh...the river mouth was decent but crowded AF. North a tad at Playa Grande pretty great. I hear the outside can break during the winter rainy season at Tamarindo though so that might be better time to judge it. Best waves were Playa Negra and Nosara further south.

Super quick update, only have played 4 sessions since being back in town but am ecstatic to report the heater is back on and I’ve just emerged from what was effectively -$2000/-800 bb brutal downswing. Hope the rungood continues as I’m tossing around various plans/options for taking some shots this summer.

Thx but ya Idk bc I don’t want to get super wrapped up in that process (the whole vlogs thing) when my focus is on upping my game this year, was more that I want to have a running journal for my goals and progress than any entertainment value so I’m still debating how/if to do something like that. W/e I end up doing will throw link in here.

Sorry, I don't surf .... but I do know a bit about CR. People WILL steal stuff sitting on the beach in Jaco.

CR is a great place to visit and even a better place to live. It is NOT Paradise, but it is pretty nice. The cost of living is low if you manage it correctly. The people are pretty nice by and large, so long as you are not acting the gringo a-hole.

You are heading out of the dry season and into the rainy season. Dry season starts again in late November. Elsewhere in this thread are some surf-specific tis re the seasons ...

Definitely try out Chiliguaro as a drink of choice. It is very cheap, based on guaro a national liquor, and strong.

Seafood is fresh and so is produce. Both are cheaper than Las Vegas.

It is worth a couple of bucks to buy Travel Accident Insurance, get one which covers all your accident-related medicals without deductible. (Have an annual policy for less than $20/mo, but I travel a lot. Had a mishap a couple of months ago and ended up in an emergency room, sh*t happens. Recommend CIMA or Clinica Biblica if you are in San Jose.)

The "low level debauchery" is 10x better than Las Vegas and much, much cheaper. to indulge. Just don't be an a-hole and you will have a great time.

Also, a friend of mine lives in Tamarindo full-time and says the poker games are pretty soft.

Hey whey, first, epic thread as I've already said in it a couple times, love that it's still going after all these years.

Second, I saw the pic where you were discussing 8/16 O8 at the Orleans. I'm primarily an LHE player, but I LOVE O8 since I started learning it about a year and a half ago, it's SO much fun. I'm also primarily a 4/8 player at both LHE and O8, looking to finally move up from those stakes. I have the kind of game that can crush LHE tables where 5-7 people are seeing every flop, but I struggle at tables where most of the people know which preflop hands not to play. My O8 game is still developing - I just know to play mainly A2 and A3 hands, good and bad times to limp or raise before the flop (read: don't be the same raising monkey in O8 that you are in LHE), when to bet or raise a one-way hand postflop etc. - clearly more comfortable in multiway pots in that game too.

I'm actually planning to stay at the Orleans the first week of July. Any insight you wouldn't mind giving me on the 4/8 and 8/16 LHE *or* O8 games at the Orleans would be appreciated.

Keep up the great thread (not that you weren't already planning on it).

Thx! well I'm not sure about the limit games there as I have no experience in but the 4-8 o8 is generally very soft in late afternoons-nights with at least 2-3 donators per table. If $ not a consideration the 8-16 plays somewhat worse-looser than the 4-8 even so can be a good deal more profitable. It's pretty common to see 6+ players to flop at 4-8 and they don't go anywhere with second nut lows or sets drawing to full etc so I generally just push hard/cap when possible with little worry for losing action.

Update on $ results. We running Guuuuuud!

Also considering taking some ambitious shots this summer. Posted proposition here:https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1...ckage-1742338/ Essentially seeing if any interest in selling % action if it goes should be fun/exciting but if not will still be slamming hours going for a good summer at the cash games.

thx . Small development, a friend from S. Fla who regs the mid stakes live games there saw I might be taking some shots higher cash games this summer and has offered to somewhat coach me on transition, will be doing skype sessions mostly covering deepstack scenarios and troubleshooting hhs etc. Makes me feel more confident having someone with much more experience than me who can let me know if/how any missteps might have occurred or even just help on max value lines/range balance. I haven't played since last session on da' giraffe ^ bc wrapping up finals in 2 classes but I actually have the itch to go hit some o8 sessions after talking about it earlier.

They opened this sub shop down the road from me called Cheba Hut (its a marijuana themed deli with a bar). They are fast, good food, and not over priced +they had a 'Greek Night' thing tonight where first 150 people get free food. Supposed to be in frat or sorority but oh well I showed up and they hooked it up. Never really got the Greek thing appeal but did get several phone #s and party invites I'll never use in the space of 20 min or so I was there so maybe that's the draw. Anyways...solid af sandwhiches especially if looking for the veterinarian options, I'll grab some pics/info on place later this week when I go back.

Edit: Just looked it up and it was founded here in Tempe in 1998.

Nothin much going on this week played o8 over weekend now I'm pretty much tied down to books this week for last 2 finals I have for semester. After this week gonna be freed up and probably putting in 4-6 hours a day into off table-preparation for games this summer, might be overkill but I feel like it's advancing my mental approach to some situations in game. Probably will play some 2-5 Venetian and/or Bellagio next two weeks to settle in for summer grind also and will update on how that goes. Been getting back in gym to try to balance the physical side of things as well but it kinda sucks...I'm motivated to getting my energy/stamina/strength up but it's kinda depressing when it hits you mid-workout how far you are behind previous highs etc.

Probably different for everyone but for me videos help a lot so been a ton of content review on Upswing and Runitonce as well as learning how to work with some of the equity vs range calculation software (and as a prequel to this working on situational range assignment). I’m also working on some more advanced theory and in what context to employ it but that is sort of overkill in the games I’m currently in and something I’ll be working with a coach on this summer more geared towards moving up. This has all inspired me to look back at my o8 game/approach as well and I believe I have a lot of room to push value/close some leaks in that format which means more $. I still have some PLO weaknesses I’ll be waiting until after summer to address.
