Day 2 - Thursday
Woke just after 11am. Checkout was at 11am. Checked the hall and housekeeping was still a few rooms away. Figured we were good. Showered and got my **** together and was downstairs before 12.
Used one of the self checkout booths. Quick, easy and pain free. Job done.
Time for breakfast.
Had my luggage with me so went for Hexx again
Can't get over this location.
Went for similar to yesterday but swapped out the bacon for sausage. Tried to swap out the potatoes for sweet potato (which was available on the menu with other dishes) to which I was told was not possible? My server claims to have asked the chef but I doubt he did.
Ate far more than the day before as when I looked back I must have been on a serious calorie deficit for the day. Don't want to be wasting away.
Breakfast 7/10. Check was $15.
Spotted someone on the Terrance that I recognised but seriously could not place. So snapped a ninja picture. (Not creepy at all) Thought you guys may help me identify
I think poker related but not sure. May just be another random tourist. If so. Sorry sir for posting your picture on the internets.
Get talking to the wife who has just landed her first flight on the east coast and is waiting for the connection. ETA 7pm so we have about 6 hours to kill.
Grab a lyft to Encore to see if we can get an early check in. Must say that I am seriously impressed by lyft. The app is great and don't think I've waited more than 5 minutes for a car. All journeys less than $10 including tip Don't know if it has any benefits over Uber but we don't have either in my city so this type of service is super impressive. Would there be any reason to try an Uber?
The wife and I did make an agreement this year that if we were going more than 2 properties away that we would try and grab a ride. I understand this is huge -ev for the bankroll but what we always end up doing is walking for hours. And before your know it your walk to Venetian becomes a walk to MGM crossing the street 2 or 3 times in between. And by the end of the day your are dead on your feet.
That being said we will do exactly that one day next week where we try gamble and drink in as many properties as we can in one day. Usually set some basic rules like $100 in chips and 1 drink per casino. When either is done we move on. Looking forward to that.
Get to the Encore. No line. Result.
Check in is no problem and get offered an upgrade for $35 a night. The upgrade is just the same room but on a higher floor. Not worth it for $300. I go for the strip view version of what we booked. No mention of early check in etc. Staff super friendly.
Obviously it's to be expected for the price point. But the place really is first class all the way. The bed in this place is next level and legit one of the things I have looked forward to the most about coming back to Vegas.
The poker room TV channel is a nice touch too
If you are here solely here to play poker and win the wages then of course you wanna get best value with where you stay but if you are coming with a partner or an actual vacation you have to at least get a few nights here.
So checked in. Unpacked. Time to hit the gym. Time is limited so decide on the hotel gym.
I like to be as efficient as possible when in a "regular" gym as opposed to a Crossfit gym so plan everything out using a timer. Keeps things moving. Decide on a 30 minute EMOM. (Every Minute On the Minute) for 4 movements and break it up 10/10/5/5. All sets are 10 reps. Then get some some rowing intervals. 4x750m @ a 1:45/500 pace. With 1 minute rest in between. In and out within an hour and a solid workout under the belt.
Still had time to snap a few pics.
Cold towels were nice. Don't get that **** at the Crossfit haha
Free fruit too. Love a banana
Hotel gyms are a funny place. You see some sights. I'm all for people getting in the gym and moving. Any movement is better than no movement. But if your on the treadmill reading a widespread newspaper and drinking a coffee you ain't workout out. Or doing squats in the smith machine whilst your trophy wife 30 years your junior loudly cheers you on as you scream out every half rep.
Anyway gym done and a with a quick turnaround we are on our way to the poker room. Got about 2 hours. Score the wife arrives.
There's a new sports book at the Encore. Well either new or moved but it wasn't here last year. Pretty small but nice. The main book is in the Wynn
We jump right into a 2/5 seat on a must move table. In for 500
Love this poker room. The staff, the seats, the tables, the spacious room all just win in my opinion. This game could well be just as boring as the game at Aria from yesterday but it just feels different.
Anyway. Starting to find my rhythm with the cards. As I said before hadn't played in over a year. But feel like I'm starting to make good decisions and feeling good about my game in general. And enjoy having to put some thought into my lines and my opponents.
I did note down a few hands to post up but some how deleted the notes. If anyone has a good way of recording hands at the table I'm all ears.
Few nice pots. Up and down but no big ones. And also managed to get out for the minimum with KQcc on K Club Club board against opponents AA.
Get the message the wife is on the way. Pick up for 423 (-77)
Short enjoyable session. Also Wynn coffee is a solid 8/10.
Wife gets in and shifted. Clearly in zombie mode from the travelling but we head out for dinner around 10pm.
We go for Jardin
We both go for a chicken cabbage rice curry combo. And also first beer of the trip. On day 3 believe it or not.
Meal is an easy 9/10 but the check is less than favourable. $102 with no starters. And the wife only had Diet Coke.
We go for a walk around the property and grab some ice cream on the way. We check out the front door displays and just generally take in the atmosphere whilst letting dinner settle. Wynn is considerably busier than Encore but I think that's to be expected due to it being closer to Venetian and the strip.
We decide to have our first punt in the pits and the game of choice is roullette. In for 100 stack of reds. I pick out 5 numbers for 25 and miss. Wife is up next and goes for the same strategy. 5 chips down but splits a fe number. Binks a halved number and we are rolling. We continue on take $25 spins each and run it up to over $300. Lose some back and we chip up $200 and move on. Always good to start with a win.
+100
As we make our way back to the room we stop off for some black jack. In for $100 each at $15 table. We play a full shoe and cash out $290 between us.
+90
Happy with our double win we decide to call it a night just shy of midnight.
No plans for tomorrow yet will see how much sleep we need/get.
Thanks for all the subs and hope you guys are enjoying so far. I'm enjoying doing the daily write ups as opposed to trying to live report through the day. But will try and drop a few updates along the way. As always let me know if there's any areas I can make it more enjoyable to read. The post feels very long and quite systematic.
It also serves a good purpose for me too as after a few days in Vegas everything kinda blurs together so will be nice to revert back to this at a later date.
