bally's obviously making money off of the players on this "promo". i wonder
how much they are deducting from the jackpot fund for each buffet they are awarding?

i am surprised they were able to get gaming to approve this promo.
in vegas, doesn't all jackpot money need to be returned to the players?

I played this promo a few times last week for a couple of buffets. It worked out that I won money but didn't win many pots, so my "Buffet rake" was fairly low. lol

It really is brutal tho as they take $1 of the $2 as soon as there is a flop, no matter how small pot is, then the 2nd $1 comes at $20. The normal rake doesn't start until $1 at $10.

So a $20 pot is getting $2 buffet rake and $2 regular rake and a $50 pot is getting $5 regular and $2 Buffet.

Its ok for short term if you want to try out the buffet but sucks long term. And of course if you are playing lag then you will get killed with rake.

Also, If I had to guess, they pay the buffet probably $10 per comp, about half price, so that the buffet still make money, depending on who is eating there. lol

Does Bally's really not have an actual jackpot, or other promotions?

Right now its only buffet promo. Next month something else I think. Previously it was $2 promo rake but 5 hours for buffet and 15-20 hours(don't remember) for the Saturday $125 tourney entry for free.

Planet Hollywood has used the jackpot drop to pay for prize money in their tournaments. So the jackpot money doesn’t have to be returned to the players.

According to Clark County records in Nevada, poker industry veteran Christopher Coffin, who served as the poker room manager at Treasure Island (TI), was arrested on Dec. 12, 2014 for felony theft of $650-$3,500.

Case No. 15F00364X does not go into detail, but according to Poker Fraud Alert, a website established Todd “Dan Druff” Witteles to guard against the "scumbags and criminals" that look to cheat the poker world, a TI employee alleges Coffin was arrested for stealing jackpot money via a football pool.

This was too bad. Chris was a frequent contributor to the All Vegas Poker site before they merged with Poker Atlas. He seemed like a good guy.

Paris. It's pretty decent for dinner. I normally don't care for prime rib but it was good there. Plus crab legs and decent desert.

I think that "theoretically" all of the jackpot money has to be returned to players. BUT . . . it doesn't say when (just eventually, maybe, when the 100 million to 1 hand hits - e.g. the Mirage) and the house is allowed to deduct "administrative" expenses in the meantime.

Moral of the story - play at a place where the jackpot money is distributed out on a fairly regular basis through the use of a number of different, ongoing promotions (e.g. the Orleans - high hands, high hands of the hour, a bad-beat jackpot than can actually be hit within 2-4 weeks, etc.)

It's sad to say but i see no reason why $6+3 isn't coming in the future. I was shocked when $2 promo drop became the norm at Mandalay Bay, MGM, and Mirage but now it has spread to a bunch of other rooms and seems to be the status quo of jackpot rooms on the strip.

The weird thing is that it doesn't seem like the promos have gotten any better. Am I missing something? Heck, Bally's only offering a stupid buffet (which is an alright buffet but not worth $2 from EVERY $20 pot!) is just plain insulting. I used to play A LOT at Bally's and think they have great dealers but haven't been there in a LONG TIME.

I used to advocate for the promo drop rooms because it felt that the 1/2nl was easier there but now that they are taking $2, I stick to the no promo rooms much more. Just doesn't make sense to give away an extra $2 on every hand I win.

Vegas poker is definitely changing for the worse in this regard.

I remember when Mirage raked $4 and no jackpot, not that long ago.

Well, I think the promos are so ****ty right now because the WSOP months are the times when the rooms are full no matter how bad the promos are. So the WSOP months are the time for a room to rebuild their promotional funds at the expense of out of towners.

Then, come August, when business has slumped and all of the summer travelers are gone, you can crank up your promotions payouts in order to fill the rooms up again at a time when it's actually difficult.

South point is now 4+2 I think
