I'm worried this means Harrah's, and Planet Hollywood will go back to $5 as well.
Maybe we'll see even more of this so called "surge pricing" now that MGM has made that part of their strategy.

What you mean by MGM has made it part of their strategy?

I was at Mandalay Bay 2-3 days ago and the rake was $5 there. I've seen them go back and forth the past few years between $4 and $5.

I don't know if you trust this source, but I've personally seen this practice at Carnegie deli at Mirage.

There was nothing MGM-specific about the restaurant surge pricing though, as opposed to the paid parking.

The Luxor has been at $4+$1 for awhile now.

They're dropping 5+1 at planet Hollywood now. Not sure if it's temporary. What a bad year for poker costs all around.

Yep, 5% at 2/5 though

It would make sense to increase rake during the WSOP because the players coming in during that time have showed that they don't care about rake. But I doubt any room is doing that just for a short period of time.

Did anyone drop the rake hikes after the series finished?

That's not true. WSOP doesn't take time from NL games

Not sure why you answered a question about NLHE with an answer about Big O. Seems odd

It does say no limit Holdem and you shouldn't post if you don't know the correct answer from personal experience

I'm not 100% sure but I think it is. I can't believe how many rooms on that side of the Strip take $2. Mandalay Bay, Luxor and MGM all do it. And I almost never feel like I'm getting more back. I've gotten more out of Mirage which takes $1 than I've gotten back from MGM and Luxor.

freeroll tourneys geared towards local nits is getting out of hand in the 2nd tier rooms. It's a pure cash grab from the tourists and makes the games suck. I used to advocate staying away from rooms like the Bellagio for SSNL but I'm starting to reevaluating that position.

If a room must do a jackpot drop I'd prefer it pays small, but frequent, rewards to all players. That way it encourages recreational players to stick around.

I agree. The free roll promotions just pass from tourists to locals. I'd think promos that give money back quicker, like random seat drawing or specific high hands are better.

Plus if the money returns quicker there is more money on the table of that cash game.

It's also a cash grab from locals who don't want to wake up at 7am to go to a card room. I don't want to wake up early to play in a freeroll. And time spent in a freeroll is time I'm not spending in a cash game. It also affects my sleep schedule which is -EV.

I wish MGM would at least stop with the freerolls and go back to the cash drawings they used to do and give away more prizes. Or maybe get rid of the jackpot drop so they can have a lower rake than Venetian.

Wasn't it a $2 max rake right before they jacked it up to $5?

Going to be $6 now at Venetian. Fish at my table were complaining about having no promotions for quads or better and dealers were telling them the room is adding a bbj in December.
