He's a genuinely curious story. A homeless guy who doesn't at first glance look homeless at all. He's eked out an existence which appears crazy to an outsider. It would be interesting to hear his hopes/dreams/goals or whether he's satisfied with his situation.

Circa 2006: Playing satellites at the Bellagio. I was chip leader 3 handed. Steve begs and begs for a save. Other guy busts Steve and I listen to him berate the guy for calling his all in with AQ (Steve had a mid pair). Another satellite, almost the same thing, STeve bubbles 3rd. After ward I walk out to the craps pit and start firing it up. Steve stands next to me talking about various hands from the satellite. (I HATE when people talk to me when I pit gamble) Its about 6:45 and back then the 7 pm tournaments were really juicy during 5-diamond. He says his famous quote "Wanna take a shot?" At the time I didnt know anything about him, I just thought he played ok. (Im not a winning poker player obv)

So I walk back to the Fontana a sit at my table. He goes on about how he's playing really well so what the hell, i thought and I toss a a purple on the felt and tell him he's gotta pay the other half 50/50. Now if this deal wasn't satisfactory to you, a normal person would leave the chip and try to renegotiate with me, right? Not Steve, he snatches up the chip and says he's got a great system to make the other half playing blackjack.I say, no way "hell NO" and demand either he goes and buys in to the tournament or give the chip back. He keeps walking out of the Fontana saying that he wins at blackjack all the time blah blah blah, so I get up and follow him. When we get otside he keeps pleading to me to let him play blackjack with the chip but No fn way Im gonna let him do that.

So I demand that he pulls out his own 500 to play and he confesses that he doesn't have the other $500. He pulls out $40 (the juice was $60) and says, "I'm gonna pay the juice man cmon....One of us probably you is going to win the tournament and it wont even matter." By this time im pretty annoyed and over the whole thing, I just want my chip back. So he sadly gives it back and rails me the whole tournament. Now it was a 7 pm tourney and I busted out around 2am with a mincash. He had been railing the entire time and follows me to the cage and all the way through the casino. I kind of ignoring him but he keeps asking me for my phone number and if Im interested in staking him for some smaller tournaments. I decline and he shakes my hand and says stuff like "It was a pleasure watching you work.", "You're gonna win something BIG this week I know it!" Etc etc.... For 3 Fing years whenever he'd see me "wanna take a shot, hey take shot Im playing really well right now, take a shot cmon, take a shot man......" He was impossible to shake. I'm one of the nicest guys but I finally told him "Listen Steve, Im never going to stake you. Not ever."

IMO he would make a perfect casino host. loll

Well if he used to be a lawyer it's not all he knows. Plus he may be similar to many degen gamblers but he does NOT look like your average homeless dude. He looks and carries himself like he has his shhit together. That's all I'm sayin.

If anymore people talk about takking a shot at Vegas while underrolled, we should send them to talk to BP Steve. That is if they actually make it out there.

Backpack Steve and Sevencard2003 (TonyBigCharles) are pathetic examples of people that want to grind low limit, underrolled, for a living. If you can call it a living.

More like a homeless transient that gambles.

I've played with TBC and it was like slowing down to watch a car wreck. You don't want to look but you can't help it. Amazing they have lasted as long as they have.

Steve sprinting away to the BJ pit with the purple chip is priceless. A video of that would be gold.

8-9 years ago i remember a 30 min documentary series on what I think is the defunct discovery times channel - mostly about degenerate Vegas gamblers...
They also featured casino hosts, show dancers, etc... I think even Scotty Nguyen for a 15 minute segment showing him playing some high stakes tournament in the ballroom at the Orleans (lol)

It would be unreal to see losers like this featured. I think it could be done easily and professionaly and put on YouTube for everyone's enjoyment. Take a month in the life.

Just looked it up casino diaries

Imagine a Lifetime movie made on this guy...

I think he's got one last run in him somewhere down the line.

I want to know what happened in late 2007/early 2008 that made him fall off his game.

I can't speak for all the degens, but in the case of TBC he has lasted as long as he has just for the reason that someone posted earlier - people love watching a car wreck. So much to the point that there has been at least one Vegas/Poker site that I know of that actually gave him financial compensation to have his blog on their site.

Say what you will about him, but the sad fact is that he at least used to drive crazy traffic to whatever site he was on and no matter how pathetic, people like him are exactly the reason why people constantly try to take shots under-rolled. How bad does your life have to be that this man's life seems better to you? Frankly it amazes me that nearly 10 pages have already been spent discussing this other man. Those who play low stakes or hang out at PH know Steve well enough; another inconsequential degenerate who certainly doesn't deserve this amount of attention.

He'll probably win a $65 satellite and the go on to ship the main event of the 2013 WSOP.

Re: Quick Solo Vegas Trip Report - Bellagio, Planet Hollywood, MGM, Aria & Venetian With a Few
Session 2: Planet Hollywood 1-2NL Thursday 6PM - 10AM

I played at Planet Hollywood last year and wasn't sure of my opinion on it. After this session I can say it's not the nicest place to play, the poker chips just seem so "dirty". The game ranged from loose passive to loose aggresive with players unwilling to let go of much post flop.

The table started and I had my first and only encounter of a table with multiple players who were obviously local vegas regs, 4 of them to be exact all sitting together to my right. This lasted for a few hours where I was involved in no major hands, just playing tight aggresive to take some pots here and there.

Three of the locals left
and one of their seats was filled by a female in here late 20's to early 30's. If Jennifer Tilly's clevage gets two thumbs up then this girl's was getting 2 thumbs up plus my toes. Although, her outfit was helping her defy gravity and once that was off I'm really not thinking the outcome would be positive. Anyways, the one local left asked her what she was doing in Vegas. Classic response: I just broke up with my boyfriend of 6 years and its my first time single in forever and I just needed to let go in Vegas. To which the local replies "Are you a hooker". Her quick reply was not but she used to be. I put the odds at 98% this girl was a hooker. This was late confirmed as a man in his 50's sat to her left. An hour later I was gazing off the my left, turned to my right and they were both gone, chips still on the table. Surprise suprise two hours later they both come back at the same time.

As far as poker hands, I've never played a session this long before and am having trouble remembering many hands. The session can be summarized by my stack quickly going from $200 to $600 in an hour, probably somewhere around 2AM. I don't think I showed down any monster hands for monster pots, just taking decent sized pots here and there and having standard top pair good kicker hands. One hand I can remember I was dealt AK and raised pre. One caller, being the lone vegas reg remaining. Flop was 9,9,5. He checked, I bet to which he called. Turn brought the Ace, check, check for pot control seeing I either have him crushed or he has me crushed. River is another beautiful ace. He checks to which I bet pot and he calls with his 9 and does a minor rant.

Has anybody who's at the Rio most of the days during WSOP not seen this guy a million times? He's seriously always there walking around with his white shirt, shorts and blue sweater wrapped around his waist. And his stupid backpack thing.

Yes the man is omnipresent, which is why I held out some hope that one of our LV grinders could approach him for a quote or two. Is that too much to ask?

Someone should ask BackPack Steve for a stake...and talk about some BJ system. Not sure if BPS would get/appreciate the irony though.

I was a Backpack Steve type once. Even wrote a thread about it awhile back. Yes, I carried a backpack. It was black. I loved that backpack. I was like Linus with his blanket. I felt lost without it. I'm sure BS feels the same. A quote from him would be nothing more that a pathetic attempt to angleshoot a buy-in from another sucker. That's half the thrill for him. (It was for me) He has no soul. BS is so lost in his degeneracy. That, necessarily, isn't a bad thing. It can even be comforting. It works at both ends. Just ask Donald Trump.

Good idea, but I've got a better one. Let's stake him. I'm up for $100 of it. We need to draw up an extremely complex repayment plan, and a grinder willing to be our point of contact. I want to hear bad beat stories, coolers, and whatever creative excuses his welch ing can muster. We can escrow similar to the DK tattoo.

Anyone else in?

When and why did this happen? There MUST be a story behind this! I want to know. I will miss seeing him at these places. He was around a lot in November.

Dammit, I'm staying at PH in May and had this guy on my 'must see' list hoping to share a late night degen session with him for lulz. I hope this thread gets updated with his new whereabouts.
