I saw Steve at Hard Rock in Miami last January. We spoke for a few minutes as I was waiting for my seat. He looked exactly the same, remembered me from Vegas, and had the same dry humor. He is an entertaining person to converse with just don't loan him money.

I've only played with him a handful of times, but that was enough to be hit up for a buy-in! I politely declined and wished him luck..
I don't think that's the same steve Fredrick!!!

It is him, I just looked him on one of the poker sites that tracks his winning history.

I had the winnings under his name and picture. However, I still think it's not the same guy as backpack steve has never lived in AZ. Google the steve Frederick that lives in AZ, I don't think it's the same guy. So unless you saw him, I don't believe it is him. That's my final input.

Not sure how I never saw this thread lol...I have a story of my own from 2006 about this legend

It was my very first time in Vegas, only 21 years old. I was playing a 1,500$ mtt at Bellagio, and this guy Steve is at my table.

http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tour...t/6789/results

^^^ This is the tournament, 6 months after his big WPT score

He flopped about 6 or 7 sets before the first break, and I'm pretty sure he was chipleader. He would not stop talking about his 160k score from 6 months ago and the table seemed to admire him. Long story short, he mincashed. He probably stopped flopping sets.

Fast-forward 1 week and this guy is in the satellite room at Bellagio, he sees me bust a satty, and as I am leaving the poker room he proceeds to ask me for a 300$ loan to play a SNG satty with. Seeing as he just had a huge score and he told me that his wife was coming to pick him up later that day with cash, I loaned it to him. I got his phone number and actually stuck around for a few minutes, which happened to be long enough to see him be the first one to bust. He lost to a standard AK vs JJ cooler and was on absolute lifetilt which I found strange for a guy who just binked 160k. He then disappeared and refused to answer my texts.

I saw him about 15 more times before he actually paid me back. He was still playing small stakes mtts nearly everyday but never had the 300 to pay me. Finally one day, nearly 4 years after the original "one day loan" I confronted him in the hallway and guilt-tripped him about conning 21 year olds out of satty buy-ins, and he reluctantly pulled the money out of his pocket and paid me.

Not sure if he still plays, haven't seen him in years

I thought about Backpack Steve for some reason today. I remembered playing a $1/2 NL cash game in Las Vegas some time ago and he got mad because I raised him off a hand. He started chirping that he was gonna "snap me off." Later, he was begging people for a stake in a tournament.

As to the gent's skill, i think you are giving him way too much credit. He's decent against fish and terrible against everyone else. And he taps on the glass more than any reg i have ever met.

I was just starting out when i met him, and i remember googling him and being outright appalled that someone that bad had 300K donkament winnings.

all that said, id be very surprised if this thread is long for the world
.
Almost seven years, so far.

Just read the whole thread from start to finish and wow that was amazing. There seemed to be enough anger and bitterness in croc's post for him to possible be BPS.

I sat w this guy many tiimes and he isnt that bad of a player but he wasnt hard to outplay either. I loaned him over 500 bucks and never had a prayer of getting it back unless he scored right then. When he won 100k + at MGM he had a line..literally..people waiting to get paid back and he did pay people back who happened to be there. I havent seen him since LA championship at commerce in 08 or 09. Did see him once at wynn poker room playing 30 60 or something. Wonder what happened to him? Bet hes flipping burgers at McDonald's. From what i recall he was a swinmer or lomg distance runner at some point and was feom Seattle maybe
