I normally don't bother with non-Las Vegas poker vlogs, but the first 10 or 11 vlogs of Jaman's are on his trip to Vegas back in June of this year, during the WSOP.
They are pretty good, and his recent vlogs get much better as he has improved his camera work and editing greatly in the past 4 months.
In some ways, he is the anti-Trooper..
I really like Jaman Burton‘s videos too. The only bad thing is he comes across as a bit too narcissistic at times. Filming yourself is already a very narcissistic activity so if you add a certain egotistic attitude to it then it’s just too much to watch. I hope he tones it down because he’s really good otherwise.
The charm of Trooper is his neuroticism and insecurity balances out the narcissistic aspects. There is also the fact that most of the vloggers have regular normal lives and just do YouTube on the side, but for Trooper we are all he has. We are his friends. We are his whole life. His life would be pretty empty without YouTube. That makes him more compelling to watch for some reason.
Andrew Neeme doesn’t come across as narcissistic or arrogant at all. His videos feel like you are sitting down in a bar with a nice friendly guy to go over some hands.
Brad Owen does seem narcissistic (in an entitled-rich-kid way), wanna-be famous, and try-hard, but a little insecure too, and friendly, so still watchable. I feel like his father is very successful and there’s a lot of pressure on him to be successful too. All pure speculation of course.
CzechRaiseCharles, Boski, and Pure Aggression all seem a bit lonely. Not sure if they vlog for fun, for social reasons, or to try to make extra money in the future. CzechRaiseCharles deserves way more subs than he has.
Pokerkraut does seem to do the vlogs for fun. I can imagine him thinking, “WHY NOT move to America and become famous?”. Too bad he doesn’t realize yet that all the curse words sound low-class and trashy. Trooper only gets away with cursing because that’s part of his working-class-hero character. I still don’t know if “Trooper” is a character played by Tim Watts, or if it is the real Tim Watts. (Similar to how Stephen Colbert used to play the character of “Stephen Colbert” on the old Daily Show before he took over Late Night.) Probably a mixture of both.
Mr. Dorson is a great film artist and both his German and his English vlogs were overlooked treasures. I think Trooper copied some of Mr. Dorson’s best montages. Since Trooper mentioned he is planning something with Mr. Dorson I expect the result to be fantastic. No doubt the thing that will “change the vlogger’s game” was Mr. Dorson’s idea. Too bad Trooper will get most of the credit for it, but that’s the trade-off Mr. Dorson had to make because he just didn’t have enough subs and never got any traction. Such is art, such is life.
