According to his early stat updates like the one below he was averaging 4hrs per session. I think it's fair to assume he is right around that now. He plays 5+ times a week so I'd say 20 hours a week is a fair assumption.

Second State Update: https://youtu.be/QP617I43Ezk

This covers his first 511 hours of poker since he started tracking. He says it is 6 months of data which lines up with when he got his new phone. So October 8th, 2014 until March 26th 2015. I'm assuming the sessions that were shown in this vlog after he made his stat update were not included in the update.

511hrs
129 Sessions
~4 hrs per sessions
Profit: $10,463
Hourly Profit: $20.45
Standard Deviation: $182.38/hour
Total Time 21 days 7 hrs 34 minutes
Best Session $1076
Winning Sessions 85

I am referring to attitude, not level of play. Of course you play hard versus everybody, but I will respond to people differently who try to use friendlyness as an advantage over you whether it is in poker or any other life situation. If I can sense that somebody at the poker table is trying to use friendlyness so you go easier on them while they still try to apply pressure to you, I will not be that friendly back at them. That is where I can see troopers side on this. But if it is just a table of people genuinely having a good time, then Trooper is being a little bit of a biaaatch.

And that is hundreds (maybe over 1000) hours played vs 160-200 work hours in a standard month.

Trooper left that game at Aria pretty early. At 10:40 pm I got up from my table and noticed he was already gone. I doubt he was taking a break because he was coming back to the room shortly after 10 pm (and might have left his game at that time).

The fact that Trooper searches for games that are hostile is a big tell into his true personality.
Does that happen that often in 1-3 games? Usually if the table is friendly in a 1-3 game it's because people are just being friendly and having a good time IMO.

In a hostile game his opponents are going to be taking things more seriously and I don't see how that is good for his winrate.

I thought he was saying that poker is war so why are these people being friendly to each other when they should be enemies and should try to take their opponents money? I think he also suggested that the friendliness might have affected his mood (and I don't think it was his opponents trying to trick him) and he prefers a more hostile table so he can find it easier to hate his opponents. He puts a lot of emphasis on psychological issues in poker.

If there is a huge fish in the game that is there to have fun, Trooper prefers to be in battle mode and I've seen this from him.

My guess is he saw his favorite fan sitting at the next table and said I'm getting the fluck out of here!

That's doubtful. Remember this is a tough guy we are talking about. Trooper was in battle mode and he wasn't going to back down or run away.

Optimistically he may be averaging as much as $7.50/hr in which case he is doing way better than most people think. He's not winning at a high enough rate that would ever allow him to support himself solely on poker (even if he kept expenses down and volume up, variance would kill him). It's not like he's the worst poker player that vlogs. I'm sure there are quite a few vloggers that are worse than him. I guess it's a matter of perspective as to how you view him. I probably view his poker accomplishment much less favorably than you do.

Also keep in mind that Troopers results this year are much better than last year. Last year he made less than $2/hr and that may still be in people's minds. Also, I think he puts in less hours than we really realized when determining his hourly previously.

Last year he was on pace for a negative until the 100 hour challenge in November. This year he already had his major heater at 2/5. There are still 14 weeks left in the year.

I think it's more likely that he continues a slow down tick toward 5-7k total + for the year before he creeps up over 10k again. For more than possibly a 1-2 session spike before his usually cooling off.

Well there is no shame in a player not being able to make a living wage in poker since few can.

As you know for most even being a break even player is a challenge since the rake in most places is outrageous.

In Los Angeles a grinder that puts in 40 hours average per week for a year has to overcome at least $30,000 in rake+tips (5/5 and above nl games) before even making a single dollar in profit.

I'm assuming Las Vegas rake is less but the amount will still be a lot to overcome.

I think why a lot of posters are so down on Trooper's poker abilities is because when he first got discovered on 2+2 everyone was kind of hoping this would turn into a video version of Another Kid Another Dream (still probably the best thread ever on 2+2 for those that haven't read it). But instead of dedicating himself to the game like Matt Moore did and smoothly progressing from 2/5 to 5/10 to 10/20 to high stakes with cameos by Michael Phelps and other notables, Trooper has basically just treaded water pokerwise since he moved to Vegas and probably for a long time before that.

It is hard to understand how anyone who has been stuck playing 1/2 for years with a sub 10 dollar an hour win rate believes they don't need to study, have nothing to gain from coaching and thinks they are crushing life. I still root for Trooper to succeed and do well but I don't expect it anymore. In five years I will be very surprised if he has made any kind of significant life progress; I hope I am wrong. That said it his life to live, he is supporting himself and he is not harming anyone in the process so I think people need to lay off the hate a bit. Trooper doesn't owe it to the viewers to make better life choices. All he agreed to do is share the life he has chosen to live.

I checked on this and he had a couple small winning months (ie up $564 in May and up $915 in August) but his losses were much bigger (down $1591 in June, down $2572 in July). He's actually breakeven going all the way back to the end of March. So that's nearly 6 full months of breakeven poker!

But right now- nothing big happening, no meltdowns, there's just really no reason to watch. I might catch about one vlog a week now.
Your points are very valid. His journey is no more interesting now than the journey of a guy working a regular 9 to 5 job. I think a lot of us tuned in to see him make it as a poker player. Then after finally realizing that he would never make it as a poker player we tuned in to watch the train wreck. However, now there is no poker success and there is no train wreck. His life is as mundane as any other joe schmoe with a desk job.

If Trooper made millions selling t-shirts that would be great for him, and would provide some new content for the vlog. However, that's not what I tuned in for. If it was, then I would watch Casey Neistat's vlogs and dozens of other vloggers. I tuned in to see the lifestyle of a guy trying to make his living as a poker player, not the lifestyle of a guy that makes his living selling tshirts who plays poker as a hobby.

He still updates his results every vlog, which gives the illusion that this is still a story about a poker grinder but those results are completely meaningless..ie they don't impact his life in any way. He has spent nearly 2 full months trying to win money to buy a motorized skateboard ffs for the amount of money that a 2/5 grinder could win in a single session. (btw, he's down $30 on that challenge for anyone that cares).

He said he has a couple things in the pipeline which will make the vlog interesting. Hopefully that's the case but I don't think it will satisfy those that tuned in to watch the life of a poker grinder. It would be nice if a new vlogger came in and filled that void of being a guy that posts daily vlogs about trying to make it as a poker player. Maybe Trooper is just one of a kind though and can't be replaced but that seems hard to imagine.

I doubt this is realistic. If you are a full time low stakes grinder supporting yourself solely from poker that will make it difficult to film and edit a quality vlog every day unless you are like DNEGS and can hire a full production team. Even Neeme who seems to be pretty disciplined lifewise has been struggling to average 20 hours of poker per week since he started vlogging (if I am recalling the stats from his recent video correctly) and he does not do daily vlogs.

Neeme has made it pretty clear that he doesn't vlog all of his sessions so we really don't know how many hours he truly plays.

I got the impression from the result video he put out like a month ago that he DID vlog all of his sessions (or at least discuss all of his session on the vlog even if he didn't record them).
