There is nothing wrong with his flop bet. Most of his opponents range has to fold to a bet. A hand strong enough to call the 3 bet preflop and call a flop bet usually isn't folding though. 1/2 players don't float in this spot. They are usually fit or fold.
After the flop bet is called, it's time for him to give up and not put anymore money in this pot.
Some are saying a delayed cbet is a better line but I disagree, due to the usually tight 3 bet range of the average 1/2 player, which is a lot of times QQ+ and AK.
