I am a Troop fan and want to see him succeed at whatever he chooses to do. I also appreciated Surf's research project, because Troop's vlog is about the life and grind of a guy trying to make it playing poker and vlogging for a living and it is informative to see where he is at vis a vie those goals over a one year period. I think a few things are clear having watched Trooper since his move to Vegas:

1. He is a small winner in low stakes nl which makes him probably a top 20% player (due to the effect of rake at low stakes, if you are beating the games at all you are definitely well above average);

2. In order for poker to be a reliable and significant source of income, Trooper needs to get much much better (his current win rate is probably about 1bb per hour) which will likely take a significant change of direction for him such as accepting that he needs coaching to reach his goals and/or investing a significant amount of his time into self study (this might require a temporary end to daily vlogs);

3. If Trooper wants to make his living primarily from poker he needs to significantly increase his hours. Even if he drastically improves and starts crushing the games for 10bb per hour he will need to play around 40 hours per week for poker to be his main income source.

4. The best way for Trooper to increase the rate at which his vlog is growing is to get better at poker. Trooper's most viewed videos are the ones like "winning big at MGM" where he posts big wins. Vegas is about fantasy and wish fulfillment so people will naturally be drawn to videos about winning sessions. This, more than anything else, is what explains Andrew's meteoric rise. The fact that he plays mid stakes as opposed to 1/2 and 1/3 is also a big help.

5. Trooper's biggest assets are his personality and openness with his audience. People genuinely like him and that is why he has as big a following as he does. If he is able to combine that with improved poker skills he has a real shot at succeeding with his dreams.

Andrew and Jake need to get out of Troopers way.

Their vlogs are telling smart kids to drop out of college

I see Troop and Pokerkraut as kind of pranksters. No one is really going to take them seriously. They are just going to watch their vlogs, chuckle and get entertained. That was Trooper's original intent. Provide entertainment.

Andrew and Jake Cody take it to another level sending a bad message imo. You can't take poker seriously.. It's a gambling game for the 99 percent. Their increasing popularity is kind of scary for the young impressionable watching in the states and Europe

Who has less of a life? Trooper or the guy spending an entire day checking each one of his videos to determine what is total wins / losses are.

In his defense, Surf does it while he is on the treadmill. But I kind of agree, LA has melted his brains

No doubt.

Also, CrushedDreams does barbell curls whilst simultaneously posting his drivel.

Thanks for putting in the time Surf! I was extremely curious about his results since the fella only talks winrates when he's winning. This confirmed my suspicion that TheTrooper is somewhere between a break-even and losing player long term.

If he didn't do the 100 hour challenge he would definitely be in the red because of all the promotional money he won at MGM and it forced him to play more hours.

Think Andrew plays great and love his VLOG but has anyone else noticed how many hands have been completely butchered Against him. There has to be at least 10 that have been shownwhere his opponent has just punted off their stack. In 5-10 that adds up to a lot of cheese.

I didn't think his mom would let him have a treadmill in the basement.

Please post your PSA somewhere not associated w/ Poker. Anyone encouraging an influx of players in 2016/2017 is GREAT for the game and these Vlogs are exactly what the poker economy needs.

I feel like 2017 is going to be a break through year for the Troop. I predict 100k+ subs by this time next year.

So what is Troop's winrate? 20 cents an hour?

If kids are dumb enough to risk it all to chase low potential earnings in a dying industry then that's on them.

If he's a losing player as you put it then grinding more hours did nothing for him. If he is a losing player then the reason he profited during the 100 hour challenge is because he ran above expectation. It's certainly not the first time we've seen Trooper go on a hot streak before.

He did do a service by providing the year to date stats and did so despite the fact that it made Trooper look better than many expected (ie he's up rather than down).

We actually don't know if he is up because he did have that session when he refused to give his results. I always thought it must have been a horrible night for him. Did he lose $1.5k maybe? $2k?

It's easy for a lot of people to make excuses for those results. They could say they ran badly so those results prove they are significant winners. They could say they didn't play enough hours so the results are meaningless. They could say that if they put in the hours like they did in the 100 hours challenge, the winrate would go way up because look at the results for 100 hours. They could say the vlogging/dealing job was a distraction and the results would be better if there was more time for poker the entire year. They could say he would do better at 2/5.

I'm not saying they are good excuses. Just saying that IMO a lot of people in his situation would say stuff like that.

How do any of you fools even know if he is reporting the true numbers ?

It wouldn't surprise me if he skews the numbers just to give you guys fodder to speculate on just to drive up the attention you guys are providing for him.

BTW Happy bday Troop

Tax evasion. He doesn't want to pay taxes on his winnings thus he reports a break even year. Trooper is a genius!
