I wonder if Trooper will make any New Year's resolutions this year. Last year he didn't, but he did say this:

Probably best to assume that like the weight losee challenge it's one of those things to be briefly discussed and then never spoken about again.

Trooper definitely had the most success of any poker vlogger in 2017.

$35,000 in hat sales thru spotify. And - assuming he had 5 visits to the Strip or Downtown and sold 3 hats per day for six months - another $10,000 in one to one sales.

Its one thing to click a "like" or "subscribe" or "view" button, and its quite another thing to give someone else one's $30. This is a whole new level of liking and loyalty.

Neeme definitely had the second most successful 2017. He ripped Trooper in terms of both subscriber accumulation and views per video. Of course, he does not submit videos as much probably for fear of becoming redundant.

There's no way anyone can submit a video of his daily poker life every other day and not become redundant and possibly boring. Imagine a 9 to 5 worker doing a daily video of his working life: wake up, drink coffee, shower, drive to work using the same path everyday, sitting in a cubicle, lunch at the cafeteria, back to work, drive home same way, eat, sleep. Gotta be boring.

A poker player's daily life would only have slightly more variance due to his ability to pick a poker room to play in where a 9 to 5er would be stuck with only one office and the same set of co-workers to complain about. I think the lesson for Trooper would be to post less videos, and only after having done something different from the previous video. This is a good lesson for other vloggers as well. Neeme probably figured this out to his credit and success in viewership. He must have concluded that if he made videos to often that it would ultimately become redundant and boring.

Boski, Pure Aggression, Pinoy Image and Pokerkraut were just flat liners this past year. Mr. Dorson and Bikeking were downward slopes. The latter could have fully exploited his "living in a car" gimmick but failed to follow up. Poker Priest is lazy. Berkey is very educational and so was Advantage Player.

Jaman Burton was Rookie of the Year. 2018 could be a breakout year for him as he has done a good job of combining Trooper and Neeme into his own unique personality and content.

Trooper has successfully made watching his videos a daily habit for thousands of people. The power of a daily habit is strong. That's why so many YouTubers do low-quality, low-content daily vlogs and still get large numbers of views. If other vloggers like CzechRaiseCharles vlogged more often they would be much more successful.

Besides some bigger losing days, probably because he bleeds his bankroll for other things. Poker is just a hobby for him. That's why he drives Lyft sometimes. And I'd suspect maybe the "boss" also got on him. He had a $1000 loss that she had a funny reaction to on one of "Andrad's" Westgate meetup games.

From Kraut's Back at the Orleans vlog comments section, looks like he has also started dealing again. It didn't say where, but he's making the announcement in his next vlog.

You guys aren’t helping. Yes there are posts from the same people that keep criticizing Trooper. But you guys add to the negativity of the thread and you keep the focus on Trooper. It’s super rare to see Blackballed, Frommagio, and other critics of the thread talk about other vloggers. The message they repeat over and over again is the thread is awful, people keep hating on Trooper and Trooper is an innocent victim.

Instead of keeping the focus on Trooper, why not talk about other vloggers instead?

Boski played 120 hours to qualify for the freeroll, just did a video about it and, if Trooper did that it would get a lot of comments and be a big deal here. The thread won’t change much unless people start talking about other vloggers. You guys have written posts for months complaining about the comments about Trooper and it hasn’t changed anything.

Brad is playing more 5-10 than he did a year ago and did well at the poker tables. Neeme played a small number of hours but did very well. Both of their channels grew a lot. I’d rank Andrew #1 and Brad #2 as the most successful.

As I recall, he would have gotten another dealing job right away if he hadn't been planning a trip to Europe, so he was driving for Lyft temporarily to fill in the time before he could commit to a long-term dealing job again.

That’s sort of my point though. The same posters here keep complaining about the thread and they keep responding to posts about Trooper. They keep telling us he is an innocent victim. Say something about another vlogger and you’ll hear crickets from those people.

In other words, they keep the focus on Trooper and aren’t exactly positive in their posts either.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I remember him showing a profit for the year and being around a 7-8 bb/hr winner.

I assume you’re talking about a video earlier than the one he did in August. In the August video he showed that he was up $74 an hour in cash games and was up over $34k in cash games and tournaments since he started his videos.

I doubt he was only playing when games were the best because in his last video, I don’t think he mentioned it but I spotted him playing 5-10 at Bellagio on a Tuesday, and the video was put on YouTube a few days later.

Do you watch the vlogs or just throw out random info.

My bad!

My memory is not so good, and not so accurate, I guess.

I really thought I remembered Neeme telling us he was having a breakeven type year.

Maybe that mugger I fingered was no where near the scene of the crime like he says?

I'm pretty sure Trooper is up ~$10-$12K for the year.

Not that Trooper would know, considering he doesn't keep records.

And that head dive onto his mattress was perfectly acceptable behavior... for a 4 or 5 year old.
Not so much for a 45 year old.

Woulda make a great Vlog if he cracked his skull a bit. Lucky for Trooper he doesn't have a box spring under his mattress, that might of help bounce his skull into the wall. Might have been a game changer.

I would actually say the opposite about Trooper having the most successful year out of all the vloggers. First off, Trooper had a rough year on the felt and off of it. He had that whole scandal with the weight loss challenge, he had that collusion thing during the WSOP, his average daily views dropped from 33K on Jan 1st 2017 to around 10K today, and is subs have been stuck at 28K to 30K for over 9 months! The guy is in a rut.

His only saving grace is that his hat/shirt business is actually doing well. He has $35K in total sales but how much of that is actual profit? He pays about $15 per hat and sells for $30 per hat? So he has a 50% profit on sales so he's at around $17.5K if you don't count all of the time he puts into hand delivering hats. Add in poker profits and donations and he's probably between $20K and $25K for the year.

If you look at Neeme and Brad Owen, they made more than that in just poker profits. I think that says it all right there.

Add in the value of someone's brand. In the poker community, what is the overall opinion of Neeme or Brad Owen when compared to The Trooper? That has value too and I doubt Neeme or Brad would sacrifice their reputations to get views for their vlog like Trooper does daily.

I have a hard time believing Trooper is capable of doing much better than that, so he could arguably have been the most successful poker vlogger in terms of maximizing his potential. Neeme seemed to be saying that he could make more money grinding poker, but the vlogging has been more fulfilling.

I can agree with this statement. I actually feel that Trooper has the basic building blocks to take things to the next level but he can't consistently produce the effort and work involved to do so. He'll have a good day of effort here and there but he can't put together consecutive days to get any momentum going.

On the Trooper scale of potential, Trooper had a great year!

Imagine how much better the year would have been had he not gotten into his own way. If he lost gracefully to PokerKraut, if he admitted to being wrong with colluding in the summer, if he didn't keep calling out "haters", if he didn't donk off that 5-10nl session during his challenge?

All those things involve not doing something which I think he can actually do. Doing things is his problem. He just needs to not self-sabotage.

+1 ...

On the plus side, Trooper had an excellent,(for Trooper) year, (+$12K) at the poker tables.

Arguably,Trooper just had his best year at Trooperware.com, newbie first year pop and all.

And Trooper's hat delivery business has peaked, in my opinion.

On the downside, Trooper's YouTube subscriber growth is stagnant. And Trooper's YouTube views are down 30%.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Trooper has peaked.

I was talking to a relative yesterday who occasionally plays a bit of online poker (he's in his 50's) and was surprised when he mentioned he'd watched a few videos by some guy called 'Neme'. He never uses 2+2 so must've randomly discovered him on youtube.
