Its one thing to click a "like" or "subscribe" or "view" button, and its quite another thing to give someone else one's $30. This is a whole new level of liking and loyalty.
Neeme definitely had the second most successful 2017. He ripped Trooper in terms of both subscriber accumulation and views per video. Of course, he does not submit videos as much probably for fear of becoming redundant.
There's no way anyone can submit a video of his daily poker life every other day and not become redundant and possibly boring. Imagine a 9 to 5 worker doing a daily video of his working life: wake up, drink coffee, shower, drive to work using the same path everyday, sitting in a cubicle, lunch at the cafeteria, back to work, drive home same way, eat, sleep. Gotta be boring.
A poker player's daily life would only have slightly more variance due to his ability to pick a poker room to play in where a 9 to 5er would be stuck with only one office and the same set of co-workers to complain about. I think the lesson for Trooper would be to post less videos, and only after having done something different from the previous video. This is a good lesson for other vloggers as well. Neeme probably figured this out to his credit and success in viewership. He must have concluded that if he made videos to often that it would ultimately become redundant and boring.
Boski, Pure Aggression, Pinoy Image and Pokerkraut were just flat liners this past year. Mr. Dorson and Bikeking were downward slopes. The latter could have fully exploited his "living in a car" gimmick but failed to follow up. Poker Priest is lazy. Berkey is very educational and so was Advantage Player.
Jaman Burton was Rookie of the Year. 2018 could be a breakout year for him as he has done a good job of combining Trooper and Neeme into his own unique personality and content.
I would actually say the opposite about Trooper having the most successful year out of all the vloggers. First off, Trooper had a rough year on the felt and off of it. He had that whole scandal with the weight loss challenge, he had that collusion thing during the WSOP, his average daily views dropped from 33K on Jan 1st 2017 to around 10K today, and is subs have been stuck at 28K to 30K for over 9 months! The guy is in a rut.
His only saving grace is that his hat/shirt business is actually doing well. He has $35K in total sales but how much of that is actual profit? He pays about $15 per hat and sells for $30 per hat? So he has a 50% profit on sales so he's at around $17.5K if you don't count all of the time he puts into hand delivering hats. Add in poker profits and donations and he's probably between $20K and $25K for the year.
If you look at Neeme and Brad Owen, they made more than that in just poker profits. I think that says it all right there.
Add in the value of someone's brand. In the poker community, what is the overall opinion of Neeme or Brad Owen when compared to The Trooper? That has value too and I doubt Neeme or Brad would sacrifice their reputations to get views for their vlog like Trooper does daily.
