Very easy....that is what the market dictates. That is also substantially more than some attorneys make (on an hourly basis).
Do you have ANY idea of how many more attorneys there are vs. what the market needs?
Why do you think there were so many lawsuits vs. law schools a few years ago?
Things have gotten better in the past few years for the legal profession, with a lot of wages going up. The job that used to pay $21 an hour now pays $25/hour. I am on the "Possie List" which is a broadcast service for legal jobs. Starting wages for a LOT of positions are about $25/hour. This is especially the case if you are outside of NYC, SF, LA, Chicago. Obviously, different areas pay substantially more (corporate law at a large firm). However, if you are a graduate of a middle of the road school, or even a lower ranked one, you simply are not going to get a job in "big law". Those firms just don't even come to hire grads of those schools.
If you think I'm making things up. Here is a link to an ABA article....The lowest paid person in the courthouse is the PA. (lower than janitors).
