I'm curious how much "The Trooper" personality that Tim created and shows everyday on his YouTube channel and the actual Tim Watts overlap. At first I thought he was playing an exaggerated character in his videos who's overly angry, bitter, and just an unaware simpleton while being a well balanced individual in real life. Having what looks like a normal girlfriend in Molly would explain this.

But it seems that the character is taking over the person or that the person was always like the character in many ways. The guy seems unstable and might be having an episode as he blows off steam on camera and maybe much more so off camera.

It looks like he accuses EVERYONE who turns around as trying to photobomb him and he edits out those parts or turns off his camera to win some game that he is playing with these people where he is better than they are. But doesn't he realize that some people are just looking in curiosity at the weirdo walking and talking into a camera on a stick?

If I walk by and see a crazy guy ranting, I'll turn around and look to see what's going on. I'm not photobombing the guy, I'm just curious about the crazy.

I enjoy the Vlogs, I enjoy tracking the different Vloggers and how their subscriber base goes and seeing their efforts to monitize.

Trooper reminds me of someone I encountered about 7 years ago when the affiliate bubble was starting to blow up on Facebook. I was just starting out by making a sports betting facebook page and trying to grow it. At the same time I noticed a similar page starting up and attempting the same thing. We did pretty much the same activities to boost Like's. Once we got to about 2,000 (We were growing at such a similar rate) I noticed he started spamming his page hard. 6 months later he had about 2,500 likes on the page and it was basically dead. The page I had had already exceeded 120,000 Likes and was now making me a small fortune. Since then I doubt that guy has made more than a few $ off of his page (Which is now completely dead) but I have gone on to make 7 figures and continue to grow...

Tim banging out daily videos may be ok for some of the viewers but the lack of quality and originality means new subscribers are rare in comparison to someone who posts a bit less but has a lot more quality.... He may make a few extra bux by relentlessly churning these videos out but in the long run he has killed his business....
+1

His brand is VERY low value compared to someone like Andrew Neeme.

Tim begging for money from his 25K subs further hurts its value but maybe he feels that this is the peak and the time to cash in for a few grand.

It's interesting that people aren't upset with Andrew over the fact he hasn't been trying to get donations. People REALLY wanted to give Trooper money before he started the Patreon account (and still want to give him money because he still is getting money). Trooper has probably gotten close to $3k now in donations since the summer.

Why were people so eager to give Trooper money, but don't seem as eager to give Andrew money?
A few points.

One, its funny to watch folks ITT complain Trooper vlogs have no poker content and then also complain Andrew vlogs have too much damn hand history. lol omg smh.

Anyway, main difference between Trooper Mail Time and Andrew Mail On The Couch? Time. Monkey-See, Monkey-Do. Now that Andrew has two Mail On The Couch segments, I predict mailings to him will start to pick up. The more postcards he reads on the air, or short letters (long letters off air) the more it will inspire a viewer to send in a letter. Or another check for $20 (more drone repairs, yeah yeah that's it, drone repairs). Or left-over $1 chips from a trip. Or moar starbucks gift cards. Who doesn't like a little coffee time occasionally? People like having a "celebrity" (and don't fool yourselves, this is what we are discussing here - celebrity culture) read their name and say thank you to them. This is how entertainment is changing. See also Geek & Sundry or Hyper-RPG on Twitch for advanced models of the same thing.

Not sure why all the hate for troopers finances, I'm probably one of the few here that has had financial interactions with him and he was easier to work with than most. I also asked him several times to send money and/or stake him in bigger games and he always respected his current backer at the time saying it wouldn't be fair.

The monetary amounts I think are fine as it's equivalent to a monthly twitch subscription. Almost all verticals on YouTube have similar situations, most beg for money way more or have huge Amazon wishlist. Trooper is first in the poker vlog space, maybe that's why he gets all the hate.

Have no comment on his poker abilities, never played with him. Keep up good work troop.

Wasn't the worst move ever. He got it all in good. and if villain's preflop range is AK-AJ it's not horrible to 3bet. those hands whiff the flop more than they smash it. leaving villain kinda helpless to a balanced continuation bet, even if they have position. my guess is he 3bets pretty often against opponents he puts on those hands. only the strongest players (hi aggro) consider putting in 4bets with unmade hands.

on the flip side are you calling off a turn jam with toptop regularly?? with 100bb's+??

boski punted chips away without a premium hand. but hard to be critical against someone who doesn't wait for premiums to put money in pots.

I think checking the flop was only thing i'd change. maybe would have prevented an all-in situation on the turn based on stp ratio. but villain probably bets if boski checks anyway.

Meh, I never asked for more poker in Trooper's videos. I know I've said it's not just a poker vlog.

I think the people asking for more poker from Trooper are big fans of Andrew that like all the hand histories Andrew discusses in his videos.

So I don't think anyone is being inconsistent.

That's him MO. Doesn't adjust his play as the tournament gets in the final stages. Cost himself a bunch of money last time too.

Persona or not, one thing another poster pointed out which shows what kind of person Troop really is was this example here. Back to the vlog where he met Andrew Neeme in the airport randomly, Andrew links Troop's vlog in his video, Trooper did nothing of the sort for Andrew.

(The irony is Trooper should be thanking Andrew on his knees for linking his channel. I believe around this time Andrew already shadowed Trooper's sub numbers.)

Meanwhile Andrew has almost double the subs as Trooper and some of Andrews videos have almost 200k views. Everyone of Andrew's vlogs his view count is at least his sub count.

Troop in comparison is getting 8-10k views in some vids/10-15k in others compared to his 25k sub level. So most of the time he does not reach his sub count in views.

Anyway back to the original observation, in this scenario Troop hates on the competition and doesn't embrace the comradery.

Most meaningful statistic used to compare the vloggers. sadly it indicates that troop's subscribers are barely interested too often. whereas andrew is gaining attention of people beyond his subscribers. probably from people sharing links with friends and from postings in forums like 2+2. i hope both continue to vlog and run good.

You are one sharp tack, Mark. That is another way of stating the point I was making -- this is just the changing model of consuming entertainment, and Tim is one of the first in the poker vlog space to breech these methods, that I know of.

He should have done this two years ago when he was the ONLY poker vlogger. Too little too late now because there's a wide variety of poker vlog content on YouTube. Why pay Trooper for exclusive videos when you can just watch another vlogger?

He should just try and get paid hosting a weekly or nightly game at Bally's or whatnot. Charge a fee, maybe get a cut of the rake? Do a meet/greet and sell t-shirts or coffee mugs or some knick-knack. It's not rocket science. He's just lazy. That's why he puts out a mailtime every 4th video.

Yeah, something like this... can't be a cut of the take, has to be a hourly that's equivalent to that to avoid some gaming regulations as he would essentially be a casino operator but yeah.

If he did 2x a week, 8-16 hour games, he can get 25/hr whole table drops 75+. Would be a no brainer for room. Would bring in another revenue stream without risk plus he would get guaranteed hours at table. He should speak to Limon about it.

Weird that Boski is almost always off when he puts the suits of his card on screen. In this one vlog alone he had AhAd shown as AsAc, and they showed one of his Jacks from his JJ hand and that was off too. But I have to say - I'm liking his stuff more and more. Great "I'm happy and sad at the same time" line about the JJ spot.

trooper made his mistake by introducing molly in a video and not following up with how the met, etc.yes its none of our business but if you made videos for thousands of people every day and introduce a new"character"people want to know..he cant see this for some reason.so what happens?

people take it upon themselves to find out who this person is,its the way of social media,it sucks if you dont like it but it is what it is.he used the word vile so its people taking **** about molly..learn from it troop

this wont work. the two times i have played with him he was super quiet and didnt say a single word one time and the other time he was visibly angry and on tilt after losing a 250 dollar pot. trooper is not really a people person.

The poker community in Vegas isn't that big. Word gets around. No way this could be kept a secret.

As for PA being dead broke at the time, I don't believe so (your msg to him was before Trooper was in Vegas). I haven't followed his story closely, but around the time of this staking I played with PA at 2/5. I actually assumed 2/5 was his main game but I guess he was running well at the time and was just trying his hand at 2/5. Based on what I read 2/5 didn't work out for him though and he ended up back at 1/2 (or 1/3). My guess is that this was the perfect storm of Trooper going busto at the exact same time that PA was running hot and had excess cash to spare. PA knew what it was like to be broke and has a big heart so he staked his buddy (plus many of us thought Trooper could be successful). Unfortunately, PA started running bad right after staking Trooper who completely crashed and burned and couldn't pay back the money. This put PA in a terrible spot and he was forced to drop down in level. Trooper probably knew that PA was in a bad spot and rather than completely screw over his buddy Trooper decided to end the staking arrangement which according to the agreement meant that he would still have to pay PA back (if PA had ended it, Trooper would have owed nothing). This is mostly speculation but it makes sense to me.

I did see him look super friendly once. But he thinks he doesn't win as much when he does that. The other times I played with him after that he was either quiet or he was hated.

Well my point was his hourly for hosting would be well above his poker hourly.

Even if we're talking $25-30/hour here. He just needs to break even and host the game.
