The guy made a very condescending accusation that I could never have a relationship, let alone be married. I proved that I am very happily married, have been for 10 years to a wonderful and beautiful person, and that I have had no problem throughout my life attracting women as I do consider myself above average in looks/physique.

He since apologized and we moved on.

I owned and trained race horses for 20 years in the midwest and east coast and I have to believe there are some race horse betting degens here like me. I had anywhere from 10-50 race horses (standardbreds like at Cal Expo) in my stable for many years.

Interestingly, I am from a horse family and basically grew up on tracks. Dad owned harness horses and uncle was a trainer/jockey on the east coast for his entire life. He then moved to equine dentistry and was probably one of the best around, because he would go to like Abu Dhabi and Qatar a few times a year and do their entire stables and ****.

He died of cancer about a year ago unfortunately, but yah. What tracks were you at? I was at Rockingham Park sleeping in the back seat of a car around 4am one morning when I was woken up to watch the entire grandstand topple in flames.

I’d like to hear stories of harness racing, seems like the ultimate degen. I remember reading about Alan Boston who’s a big harness horse guy. He had a house in southern Maine next to some really nice harness track. I’d love to spend a day at a place like that.

Yes that would be Plainridge. I am good friends with Ron and Mitch Cushing who race there.

I have a good one. I was at the track one day hanging at the bar with Dad. I was probably 10-11. I would go down to the rail, then up to the bar in the grandstand, then down, then up, etc. One time when I was down on the rail, I ran into his friend Joanne(who would become his wife), who was a trainer at the time.

She says to me "Tell your father to bet #5 in the next race." I go back up to the bar and the race goes off and I am 10 and dumb. 5 obviously wins and I say "Oh man, I totally forgot, Joanne told me to tell you to bet on 5 this race.

He does what can only be described as the bert-stare.gif before it even existed, because obviously the 5 horse was like a 40-1 shot.

Pops was Foxboro Raceway, which used to be next door to Foxboro Stadium.

Anything older than that? I believe Alan lived there since the 80s or so and Plainridge opened in 99.
