I think people oversimplify with the “market will dictate” approach. Unlike things that have been around for ages like sugar, corn, used cars, and houses, poker staking is a new and unknown commodity. The information is not available and there’s not much to compare to. So whether the price is right or wrong is still unknown. Now, just because another person is willing to pay for something didn’t make it a true market price. I’ve seen people over pay things all the time. Heck, I once paid $200 for a pair of jean. That was a poor choice looking back.
Now, as someone who has poker experience, I would never invest in staking someone else. Why? People when money is involved, you can never know what someone is capable of. And yes, I’ve been burned. I admit it. It sucks when it happens since the money is gone, but you do gain some humbling knowledge and move on.
