If there's consistent straddling and deep stacks, sounds like it's actually a 5/10/20 game.

Semantics though when it all comes down to it. Just like 90% of internet arguments; semantics and polarization.

It's not unusual for a room to have its high stakes NL players migrate to PLO. You have to look at the player pool and see who switched to playing PLO. If it is the guys who your NL game is built around, that might leave the 5/T game shorthanded and full of nits who are afraid to play PLO. If that is the case, your game is in trouble. I'd be worried about weaker players going broke because they don't realize that it is actually a jump to a game that is at least twice as big and having to drop down to 5/5 when they come back to NL. If it was the perfect storm of too many people gone during the summer, you might be able to rebuild the game. You should also consider the possibility of getting people to play 5/5 PLO.

Short stacking while learning is good. You should play tight preflop. People talk about hand values running together preflop as justification for making loose calls, but that means that you also aren't losing too much if you fold marginal, slightly positive hands too often. You are much better off starting out snug and gradually loosening up as you learn. I would say my live VPIP is around 20% and I always feel like I still play too many hands. I wouldn't quite call my style nut-peddling, but that isn't a bad mentality to have when you start out in PLO.

Limping with weak aces then jamming when someone else builds the pot for you is perfectly reasonable. Calling with a double-suited rundown hand with a gap at the bottom is fine. It looks pretty, but you don't have to jam with that hand. The money goes in when you hit the flop and you fold when you miss. The main reason I would consider 4betting is if I can isolate and get a lot of dead money in the middle, which is harder when you are relatively short.

For a novice who is short stacking, one thing you should study is how hard you need to hit the flop to call a pot-sized bet all-in if you are heads-up against likely aces. For players transitioning from hold em, one thing they sometimes struggle with is folding made hands that are GII hands at hold em.
this is true in plo EXCEPT when short stacking in bloated pots.he's buying in for 500 in 5/10/20
there really aren't many good hold em hands he should be folding besides garbage straights.

Re: Las Vegas Poker Player Vlogs

Here's one example that applies even to short-stacked players. KK can be a GII hand preflop in most NLHE games (I think there are times when it can be folded), but there are times when KKxx is a clear fold preflop even when your side cards aren't garbage.

And he may be short-stacking, but what happens when he triples up? Is he always going to cash out and leave or is he going to try to play when he is no longer short-stacked?

I met Andrew at the former game that used to run and I would concede that hourly is definitely possible!

It was super fun playing in that game and can confirm he’s the same in person and not what the haters say.

I splashed around and drank like it was my first time ever playing and didn’t mind my 3k loss because I had a good time and don’t play everyday anymore.

When I was playing seriously I had over 80 hr over 1k ( lol sample? But just for that venue )hours and they’re both better than I.

that's for him to decide and a problem with being a short stacking live plo player who can't play deep at all.

even in the example you gave- super deep kk is a clear fold in plo.
short stacking depending on how the hand played out it still might not be.he's sitting with 25bb. the times where it becomes so obvious someone else has aces there is now so much dead money in the pot that he's getting a good price on calling (after having already put in money himself) especially if he has good side cards.

15BB/hr is a very attainable rate for a sharp player at all NL levels.

I actually think Neeme is too nice for his own good. Almost like a pushover type. All these vloggers sitting around circle jerking each other is boring and ABC. Neeme should take the Doug Polk approach and attack his copy cat competition. Just look at how many subscribers Polk has from taking this approach. He seriously ruined Torelli with one video and also makes Negreanu look like a fool. "More rake is better"

Idk how some of you vloggers can hang out with Negreanu. The guy is an obvious shill for pokerstars, which is probably his biggest form of income these days, since the game is starting to pass him bye.

bodybuilderbumboybenderover32 kills 1/2 so he does know it all.

He's on Grindr 40hrs a week and the other time he has spare he grinds 1/2 and kills it like you wouldn't believe.

The ppl the bbbbb32 plays with are normally young boys, the guys he plays poker with are all fish, listen to him, he is the oracle of wisdom , the font of all knowledge just rear guard ur self so he doesn't try it on. But regarding poker he knows it all.

I'm sensing a pretty clear theme with your posts. “Johnnie could’ve been a millionaire if he just grinded...” “Neeme could be Doug if he just attacked...”

I’m guessing you’re young and that’s the reason that you don’t understand that there are multiple ways of going through life, and that the best way is to do what makes you the most happy. Doug genuinely loves trolling, and I do not. I genuinely enjoy keeping things positive. I would rather do the thing that I genuinely enjoy and stay true to myself than go against my nature, even if it meant doubling my subs on YouTube. (Which isn’t even that big of a reward, is it?)

(Edit: There’s also the fact that Doug is one of the best poker players in the world [or at least was, depending who you ask]. So, that helps his channel too, you know?)

I also have a question for you Mr. Bodybuilder. Why are you so unhappy?

You're right. I'm in my twenties so pretty young compared to the average OMC on this site. I'm not unhappy actually. I'm a fan of pretty much every vloggers content. I just nitpick on things they do or say since I'm bored at the table.

I wouldn't post here if I wasn't interested in the content so take it as a compliment, even though I come off like a dick.

That's like, the worst kind of person. Having valid criticisms is one thing - you're just being a douchebag for no other reason than your own boredom.

Then it's a bit disingenuous to say that you're a $150/hr winner @ 5/10.

As JV said, it's impossible to have a $150/hr winrate at the Bellagio 5/10 for example. The max is only $1500, you've got a lot of Vegas pros that are in almost every game, straddling doesn't happen often, and you can only straddle UTG. $100/hr in that 5/10 game would make you an extremely good player.

Now, you go outside Vegas and find a 5/10 game, you're going to find some VERY juicy ones, and I assume San Diego qualified. I play $5/$5 in Texas and make more than a Bellagio $5/10 pro can. Why? The games are excellent, there's no buyin cap, no pros, there's up to a $20 straddle UTG or OTB (ends up being about $12-13/hand in straddles), and we can implement any rules at the table that we want (progressive button jackpot, 2-7, bomb pots, etc.) as long as everyone at the table agrees. So, I could say "I'm making 25 bb/hr at 5/5" and give no further context, but that wouldn't be right. It's essentially an uncapped 5/10.

My point? Context matters. 10 bb/hour is a figure often thrown around but it really means nothing unless you take into consideration every factor about the game you're playing in. I truly believe if you want to play poker for a living and you're living in Vegas you're doing it wrong (purely in terms of $/hr). The games are just so much better everywhere else and your hourly isn't capped by house rules.

So, if JV claims to make $150/hr playing 5/10, I believe it's both true and misleading. We have to know exact game details, and once we do, calling it 5/10 is likely going to turn out to be a bit generous. A $150/hr winrate @ 5/10/20(25) that is uncapped is fantastic and sustainable and would be much more believable.

And for the record, this is random af... Neeme seems to get very little credit for how good of a player he is. In this thread I've seen people say Owen=Neeme or Owen>Neeme and it's absurd. Brad Owen is not even close to Neeme's level as far as poker ability. If you want to get better at your game, don't watch training sites, watch every hand JohnnieVibes and Andrew Neeme have ever put into a vlog. JV is slightly better (imo) but they're both really ****ing good at poker and are absolute crushers. Getting their insight into how to approach every aspect of a hand shouldn't be free but they both deserve a ton of credit. Props.
