Buying some random coffee at 100%+ markup makes no sense at all if you want to support his channel. Just cut out the stupid middleman and send Trooper money directly. More of the money you send will go to him and some random company won't be taking a cut.
I get buying a hat or a t-shirt because you can wear it as a conversation starter but who the heck needs random coffee in the house at 2X the price of good coffee?
It's like that episode of Apprentice when they were selling Trump water. The water doesn't taste different. It's a random bottle of water with a custom label. In fact, it's probably worse than a water company's branded water at the same price. (Sorry, not trying to be political. I would say the same point if it was Kardashian water or some other random celebrity trying to rip off their fans.)
He never wanted to promote his Patreon. But then he seemed really excited to promote his caps, shirts, etc. Probably an ego thing. People would give him money directly, and a lot of times it was because they looked down on him and felt sorry for him because he was struggling.
When he started making money off of selling stuff, he could convince himself that people were buying his stuff because they were fans that admire him instead of looking down on him, and his clothing gives his fans a chance to promote his vlog. In other words, he gets to feel and act like a Youtube star when he sells stuff.
And he gets to feel that he is providing something of value to people and making money off it instead of feeling like a beggar that receives money because people feel sorry for him. He is the boss. He is too good to be receiving money because people feel sorry for him.
People don’t go up to the other vloggers and hand money directly to them nearly as often. Did Neeme and Brad ever need a $20 bill as much as Trooper?
