What about the fact he doesn't have steady income coming in? His problem has always been the fact he doesn't want to work for a living. His whole "Waiting tables" fairy tale is laughable at best. If he wasn't lazy he would be dealing which he isn't and won't.

Really depends on what "worth your time" means. I came to that crossroads ~8 years ago when I finally gave up playing Limit, where the Limit game was dying and I had trouble justifying the amount of recreational hours I was playing in a game that was barely beatable. So I made the switch to NL. The NL game isn't nearly as beatable as it once was (sigh, the good ol' days), but it's still beatable, and for more than I barely squeaked by in Limit, but it's also getting tougher. Eventually, I might have to ask myself the same question again (i.e. is it really "worth my time"); for now, it is.

In the end, it's really best if you treat poker as a fun hobby (one of many) that *perhaps* you can make a little bit of money at. With rumours regarding going to a minimum wage of $15/hr, if you're looking at today's live poker for purely $$$, long term-wise you'd be much better off getting a minimum wage job (especially one that could grow into something else).
