My car just got stolen from a parking deck on The Strip My car just got stolen from a parking deck on The Strip

As an occasional poster on here, just thought I'd let everyone know about this. I saw in Kraut's vlog his vehicle (and a neighboring vehicle) got his window bashed in at a parking deck recently. I personally witnessed a robbery in broad daylight on the strip about a week ago and have heard other stories of people getting robbed recently as well. I know these are all anecdotal stories, but it sucks for everyone involved.

Security at Miracle Mile were very helpful and the Las Vegas police arrived in a timely manner, were helpful, and were reviewing the security video. They already entered my report in the system, so they are on the lookout for my car. So shout out to all of them. But obviously I am not holding out much hope my vehicle will be recovered. It was an older vehicle not in the greatest of shape but it got me from point A to point B.

I guess the only thing I can say is be especially aware of your surroundings while on The Strip.

I guess I'm still in a state of shock because normally I'd lose my **** over something like this. All I keep thinking about is why my vehicle out of the thousands in this parking deck.......

Don't let your insurance carrier know it wasn't 'in the greatest shape' or it could impact payout...at least presuming that you had decent coverage through your carrier.

I'm not carrying comp on a 22 year old car that is worth maybe $1500......

They probably picked it out because it uses a non-electronic key, making it easier to steal.

Are you absolutely 100% sure you parked it where you think you did? (that's why I always park on the same level and in or around the same spot). Did you look around the whole parking garage for your car?

Found your car on a list of most stolen cars. That is probably why. Did they find the creedance tapes?

Since this is the first time you volunteered the information that you drive a POS and don't protect yourself, I can also easily see why you didn't lose your sh*t...because you didn't lose anything.

A low deductible on comprehensive likely would have cost you very little...I just looked at my current policy. The '05 Grand Marquis is $181 per year right now for the $200 deductible. The '03 X-Type is a little more. One can carry comp and not collision...

Hopefully they find yours intact and not parted out to all of Central America but chances are good that, if it really WAS stolen, it is already across the border.

OP forgot where he parked, panics, and calls the cops. Odds are much more likely OP forgot where he parked than someone stealing a 1996 Nissan.

Or you could just google and see that the #1 most-stolen car model last year was a 1997 Honda Accord, so his 1996 Nissan getting stolen isn't exactly a mind-blowing thought.

You might want to check with your insurance agent to see exactly how much you're saving by carrying that $200 deductible, as I've never found carrying a deductible on comp to be worthwhile. Unlike deductibles with collision coverage where you can save hundreds of dollars annually by carrying a deductible, since comp claims are comparatively rare, the cost between no deductible and even a $500 deductible only seemed to be a savings of a few dollars last I checked. And the last three cars I insured were (are) a Jaguar, an SL Mercedes, and a Maserati (which my wife unfortunately totaled last year.)

I have a dash cam in my car that records the front and back and periodically go through the footage. It is pretty amazing how many random people look into my car and try the door throughout one day. I'd peg it at 2 people/hour.

I stopped driving and just use the monorail now.

+1

The point of insurance is to lower variance, not to save money.

Insurance is necessarily EV- as the insurance company is a for-profit corporation. Their whole business model is to pay out less than they receive in premiums.

It's win-win when the consumer would rather pay a small fixed amount regularly instead of a huge amount at a random time. If you have a 1/1,000,000 chance per day of causing a $1,000,000 accident, you'd rather pay $1.50/day, unless you're so rich you can absorb the $1,000,000 penalty that could hit any day.

It's win-lose when the consumer uses it as a forced savings program for small matters. Like if there's a 1/100 chance per day of causing a $100 accident, paying $1.50/day is super lol unless $100 will bankrupt you.

For a $1,500 car and assets commensurate with someone driving a $1,500 car, anything but the skimpiest coverage allowable by law is overkill.

This is a troll post. I'd be willing to put up money that there are NOT 2 people per hour trying to open his car. I doubt it averages to 2 people per week.
