i know this is not fine dining but i had dinner at bb king's at mirage the other night. it was pretty bad! my filet was dry and chewy and my green beans were cold and crunchy. mashed potatoes were good tho.

however i'd definitely go back. atmosphere was great, live band was rockin. just not gonna eat there again

Lesson: if the name of the restaurant includes an athlete or entertainer's name, it will probably suck.

I'm out of town, but I'm dying to hear some Cosmopolitan food reviews.

Here's what I can offer:

I'm in DC, so in anticipation of the Jose Andres restaurants, I ate at Jaleo in DC.

Link to Kevin Eats review of the place.

Overall was a pretty good meal, but the items here were hit or miss. Sent the shrimp back because it wasn't cooked properly (came out better, but still meh the 2nd time. The texture seemed unintentionally off).

The Jumbo lump crabmeat with cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, cauliflower and sherry dressing was ok but did not get finished by our still hungry party of 4. The pile of peppers remaining on the dish wasn't very appetizing.

Step mom sent a Sangria back, don't remember exactly why.

That said, some of the dishes were amazing. The Iberico Ham was probably the star of the meal. The chicken croquettes were also pretty damn awesome. The lamb was pretty good, but nothing to write home about.

I should clarify that I'm not a big fan of most Tapas restaurants, but my party of 4 agreed on just about every dish. While some were vvvv good, some just failed completely. Sometimes I'd attribute this to not being a big fan of Spanish ingredients, but since my party agreed, and Keven Eats basically agrees, IDK.

Overall I'd still suggest the restaurant, with the caveat that the consistency certainly does not live up to the Jose Andres hype.

Ate at Scarpetta in Cosmo. The food was generally great (the spaghetti was incredible, as was the mushrooms/polenta, though the cod was a bit disappointing), but the service, while quite nice and reasonably attentive, was poorly trained and disappointing. Would go again, I assume service kinks will continue to work their way out.

Blue Ribbon is awesome. The Oxtail Fried Rice and Fried Chicken are must tries. The Miso Cod is good, but I can't really order that anywhere but Nobu. The service was decent, I knew one waiter which may have helped. Their sake list is pretty amazing. The thing I like most about Blue Ribbon, is it's like a different world compared to the rest of the busy Cosmo.

The pizza place at Cosmo is probably the best pizza I've had in Vegas. Chino Poblano is my next to try.

Jay, is the pizza place D.O.C.G.? That's the only restaurant listed on the site that explicitly says it serves pizza.
Also, was the pizza Napoletana-style?

Looking forward to a TR from Milos. daughter of a cosmo exec told me after trying all the places, she thought Milos was the best they had. i would prefer to hear from someone here though.

I guess that's the name? There's no signage and I think they JUST got a menu. It's more New York style, but that's not a fair assessment. It's also $3/slice for cheese which is pretty much unbeatable on the strip in terms of pricing. You can get a PBR and a slice of pizza for $6

I was talking with the Dir. of Player Dev. last night and he said Milos was better than Bartolotta and he's not the kinda guy who would BS me. So it's definitely on my list.

no DOCG is not the pizza place. this is the pizza place

It has no name and no signage. Located between Blue Ribbon and Jaleo. DOCG is a full scale place. The "no name pizza place" sells just pizza, soda and beer. It's basic (and good) NY style pizza.

I have a reservation at Robuchon's later this week. Any suggestions, customs, hidden off-the-menu options of which I should be aware of before I go? I assume that it's fairly dressy - ties standard?

The Atelier or Joel Robuchon at The Mansion? Because The Mansion is just a tasting menu...

The Mansion, though according to their website they also have several prix fixe options.

For Vegas it's pretty dressy but they'll definitely let you in in a nice button down and jeans.

Just order whichever prix fixe menu you want. The 16 course tasting is amazing and not quite as much food as it sounds like. Some of the courses come out 3 at a time and are only a bite or two.

The only off-the-menu thing I can think of is the cheese cart. It's nowhere on the menu and I've never tried it but I've seen them bring it by other tables and it looks pretty sweet.

The Cheese cart is pretty amazing!!! It has been said to be one of the best selections of cheese in the world. Definitely some very interesting stuff that most people have never heard of.

Looks like the cheese cart only comes with the 6-course menu.
Also, since it doesn't show, all menus come with a bread cart and a dessert cart.
From what I've been told, try the bacon-infused bread and the milk bread.

Also, it's been mentioned before itt, but don't forget to arrange a limo for pickup.

I'm sure you can ask to add it to any of the others.

So, I went to Vegas during the holidays, and here is an insight of the restaurants I tried.
Quickly, in terms of background, I am from Paris and I also used to live in NYC, which are two cities close to the nuts in terms of restaurants, so I can be pretty demanding ;-)

- CUT: I had the Ribeye steak and creamed spinach. The Dry Aged 35 days Ribeye was very good, but I ordered medium rare and I should have ordered rare instead, because the inside of the steak was overcooked. Nothing to say about the spinach, which was fine.

- CHINA POBLANO: That was excellent!! I usually like creative cooking and unusual mix and my expectations were met. I stronlgy recommend two dishes out of the 3 I tried: the jicama crab sui mai and the tuna ceviche, where small details (like the roe for the crab sui mai or the amaranth seeds for the ceviche) really gave a unique flavour to the dishes

- B&B: I had the pasta tasting menu. Some of the items were soso, but a couple of dishes were outstanding: the capon tortellini and the goose liver ravioli. The spaghetti were also cooked perfectly, "al dente", which is not that often the case.

- JULIAN SERRANO: Had 4 small dishes, all of them were pretty good. The lobster-pinapple skewers were original and the lamb was excellent as well. Chorizo and Octopus were OK, but not outstanding.

- CARNEVINO: Went back to Carnevino, where I had an excellent experience last time. Well, it is still as good. As a starter, I ordered the octopus, which was tender and perfectly marinated, and the in Bone NY Steak, this time rare, which was flawless as well. I also recommend the pumpking cheescake for dessert, especially, if you're european and not used to eating cheese cakes, this would be a perfect way to see how a cheese cake should taste.

- WING LEI; I didn't try their regular menu, but the Dim Sum brunch, which they do for the holidays and the chinese new year. OK, just one thing to say: If you're in Vegas for the chinese new year, YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE NOT TO TRY THE BRUNCH. The dim sum were just perfect (the only better ones I had were at the Peninsula hotel in Hong Kong), and the rest of the buffet was excellent (especially the spicy cod).

Regarding the wines, I was usually desappointed, but I wasn't expecting much as I mostly ate on my own and by the glass selection is generally not that great. I usually stick to Zinfandel (for the sake of originality, because we don't have this grape in Europe) or Oregon Pinot Noir, which usually fits most of the dishes I ordered.

Laslty, as usual in the US, restaurants are overpriced (except maybe for top restaurant - like 2 michelin stars , last time I found the Picasso to be excellent value) and service is flawless.

I'm taking an unexpected trip out to vegas this Week and was hoping someone could give me a list of 5-10 real nice restaurants to check out. I enjoy real nice steak houses, italian , oriental, and seafood. I'm not big too big on sushi, and really don't like mexican/southern style food. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

I don't have time to read 1200 posts. I read the last page of this thread and found a few reviews of places I wouldn't have much interest in checking out I was hoping someone who knows vegas could just list off 5 real nice restaurants involving steak/seafood/italian... hope that's not too much to ask.

There's a large bolded list on this page of restaurants that fit your criteria. I'm not really trying to come off as a prick here, but if you spent 5-10mins using the search function all your questions would be answered.

However I will do you a favor:

American Fish
SW
Scarpetta
CUT
Carnevino
RM Seafood
Milos
Bartolotta

Dined at Milos the other night.

Service was meh, the concept of the menu is confusing as hell. But the food was fantastic. The whole idea is that your server will "create your menu" for you...Our server didn't really explain how that worked so we were left to guess and ended up just ordering our own. I had the whole red snapper which was delicious. The Milos Special is great, the grilled mushrooms are really nice. Everything is prepared very simply and the natural flavors in the ingredients are showcased more than anything.

Funny story, was sitting down at Holstein's at Cosmo to watch the football game and ordered a salad, it comes out there's 3 guys in suits talking about food and blah blah blah, he remarks about my salad "That looks nice"...I'm like "It's a salad it can't be all that special"...Well, turns out he's the Food and Beverage Director for the entire Cosmopolitan, spent a good 20 minutes talking with him about the various restaurants I've eaten at and the ideas he has for the hotel. Blue Ribbon is still my #1 spot to eat right now.
