Bavette's Ribeye Steak Frites is $49 and pretty decent.

I need to Herbs and Rye. For the steakhouse, money is no issue, I'd also say Bazaar Steakhouse.

I totally missed Randall Stevens posting the tasting menu from Partage. Great stuff.

I live posted because I knew that you and RED were interested. We might go back in December, but we have some comps to burn and we'll probably do LPM instead.

My only suggestion, in case I haven't mentioned it, is that's it's not a exactly sexy location. We're from north Philly and we don't really care, but if you want to spend $200+ a person then you might.

I was trying to avoid chain restaurants because I can get those at home. I went to the steakhouse at Circus Circus last time and I figured that would be cheap because the place is a dump. That was a mistake

Thanks for the replies guys. Bazaar Meats it is. I think that, in addition to quality, the novelty and fun of the place will make it a memorable experience for them, as they are naive bumkins. (Well, from Midwestern suburbs.)

Cheap steaks... I've been to the outback at CR and, I thought it was pretty bad.

If you don't want steak frites or skirt steak or something from a nicer place, I've noticed Grand Lux has ribeye and stuff around that price. I'm not as high on grand lux as some, but it is always at least decent.

Technically a chain, but it's better than most.

How much does Circus Circus charge for their steaks today and does that still include bread and house salad as app and veggies and mashed/baked potato on the side?

Obviously not 1:1 comparable but if you ordered a NY strip with those items individually at one of the expensive Strip places you're probably over $130 maybe closer to $150?

If you're willing to go off-Strip, Herbs & Rye sounds like a great option. But for a "traditional" steakhouse on the Strip, the one at Circus Circus is certainly on the lower end of the price range.

FWIW, I've been to the CR Outback and had the ribeye at Grand Lux (that and filet mignon are the only steak options IIRC?) and preferred Outback. Prices are probably comparable?

Circus Circus was $90 for pretty much all of their steaks and the prime rib. And yes you get all of those sides with the cost. Looks like Grand Lux has ribeye and filet for $35. That might be what I try next.

Just FYI if you want to avoid chain restaurants, Grand Lux Cafe is a Cheesecake Factory brand.

One other possibility if you happen to go DT is Hugo's.

Based on a Google search, they have a 10 ounce NY for $55. That should include a fancy, tableside salad, bread, and some chocolate covered fruit.

Comes with some mushrooms. You could probably split a potato or whatever, if you're with someone.

Cool atmosphere. Old school fancy restaurant.

Nusr-Et also has a 3 course lunch deal for $39 that includes a 5oz filet or strip plus app or salad and dessert. Solid deal if you don’t need a huge steak.

I’ve driven by the place. I in an odd way like the fact that it’s in a dimly plaza in Chinatown.

Went to Joel Robuchon last night, first time I’ve been to a true fine dining chef’s menu type dinner and it was absolutely incredible, by far the best dinner I’ve ever had and it’s not particularly close. Everything start to finish was 9/10 or 10/10 including the service.

We didn’t do the full $500 menu but this was way more than enough food. Total was $800 with tip for 2 people including a cocktail each, extra dessert, and upcharges for the truffled langoustine ravioli and the soufflé. Think the bill was around $630. Easily worth the money if you can swing it.

Didn’t get a picture of the dessert cart but did get a video:

All of the desserts were incredible. Pistachio crème brûlée was probably my favorite overall. We both agreed that we could definitely go there and just get the $150 menu with some extra desserts and it would still be an epic dinner with a side of diabeetus after.

So my family was wandering around NYNY and some bad actor, most likely my dad, got a bug up their azz about going to Gallaghers. Fine, it's their vacation. Cancel Bazaar Meats, off to NYNY.

I was a little sour about this, as I haven't been to BM in years and was really looking forward to it. I also figured a restaurant in a cheesy place like NYNY that relies on name recognition is probably sub par. I reminded myself to stop being a baby about first world problems, but I was still probably a bit prejudiced against the place.

We had a nice time though. Most importantly, the fam all thought it was marvelous. My cousin's son said he wasn't a big steak guy, but that he loved his steak and ate until he was sick. I've always felt like it would make more sense for your cousin's kid to be your second niece/nephew rather than a second cousin. I'm told that this is how they are called in Mexico and other countries. Maybe back in the day, when people married them, they thought it sounded too wrong.

These people are from Michigan though. Primitive backwoodsmen. In my opinion, the food was quite good in a vacuum, but just decent by the standards of a Vegas steakhouse. It's a fun vibe, as the original restaurant in NY is 120 years old or something and they try to recreate it. So there are all these old pictures on the wall and a sense of history. The service is straightforward and workman like, but good and this ads to the feeling that you are stepping into the past. At this place, I wanted a person in a white apron hauling my food in. It would feel wrong to have a guy in a suit who used tongs to place pieces of bread on your plate individually.

The presentation is that there is no presentation. Beet salad just looked like a pile of chopped greens. Under the greens there was some cheese, under that there was some diced beets. It was dressed in whatever and that was the salad. But it tasted good. And again, this is how it should be at this particular place.

The steaks were just good steaks. Charred a bit. A little under seasoned for me. Creamed spinach, again, standard and well done. The fries were outstanding. (Ribeye, fries and bernaise sauce. is a great combo). They had Sculpin IPA on draft and served a healthy glass full. This should be a given, but I have been to places like Bugsey and Meyer's, that have crap beer served in a thimble at $10-12 a pop. I didn't like my cocktail, but it was prepared fine, just wasn't to my taste. You get that ice sphere.

That's probably a good comparison. This place beat Bugsy's across the board. And on that note, I guess you now have to praise a restaurant for giving you free bread when you spend hundreds of dollars on a meal. Some sort of raisin bread and some sort of white bread.

Got toffee pudding. Again, I'd say it was- standard but well-executed.

It's a pretty good value all around. Not the best steak in the world, but a really big ribeye was only $65 and it was tasty. We split the bill because I still had $150 in comps on the room. I charged $200 to make sure I got all the comps, but the charge didn't show up on my bill, so I saved $50 or so.

The place I was trying to think of was The Peppermill. I've never had the steak, but everything else is pretty good and it's a really cool place.

I think it used to be a hang out for lots of strippers and stuff as they were always open and they could come after work and have a drink and a meal.

Took my little sister to L'atelier De Joël Robuchon.

Carpaccio. Heavily seasoned with je ne se quais.

Very good and got progressively better as I ate it.

Chestnut soup. Sadly, with these fancy places, it's considered bad form to lick the bowl clean.

Some kind of tart she got.

Buoef. Served with the best steak sauce ever conceived by man. Even the little salad bites on the side were perfect.

I've only been here once before and I missed out on the legendary mashed potatoes. I was excited to try them but dreading it a little bit as they couldn't possibly live up to the hype.

We both started laughing when we tried them. Holy God. We both loved mashed potatoes as kids and would eat mountains of them at TG, so it was fun to experience the platonic form of them together.

Souffle and coffee.

Can't wait to try the main restaurant.
