Yardbird tip, the short rib might not be the first thing you order, and I’m certainly not asking you to replace the chicken and waffles, but getting the grits with the short rib as something to share for the table is incredible.

We also liked the fried green blt so much we put the exact recipe on our wedding menu.

Finally Randall really knows what he’s doing if he ordered the turbot and John Dory.

I'm almost positive we got the shrimp and grits to share. If not this time, then we definitely have before. We were also on the brunch menu if that makes a difference.

BiteMeFish got the shrimp and grits at our meal and he was a fan.

He got the best of both worlds because his gf didn’t finish her chicken

Odds of walking into Carbone around open on Sunday and getting 2 seats at the bar?

You have the right idea. Strolling in at 7:30 won’t work.

Tried this for lunch a few months ago.

Restaurant was completely empty apart from a large group of Japanese tourists at the table next to mine taking pictures of everything and they seated me at a large table by myself, but the burger/fries/caesar were all excellent and I left full and happy. Would have been a better deal without the $10 bottle of water I didn’t have a choice about getting, but still recommend.

Also went to Bugsy & Meyers steakhouse since a friend was staying at Flamingo. Sides were good, ribeye was above average, old fashioned was ok. Didn’t really like the waiter very much. Fine meal, but unsurprisingly no reason to go there over probably 20+ other options. I think I ended up paying more than at Delmonico, which was one of the finest dining experiences I’ve ever had, which is ridiculous.

I think the Fried Chicken was the best I've ever eaten - just tasty, crispy but still tender and the bones just fell away]
You lying maggots got me to go to YB again.

I kid. It's very good and these posts made me want to re-try the fried chicken, so I steered my sister there to burn some comps the other day. We had a couple different types of lemonade. 8/10. Mashed potatoes 9/10. I wasn't really expecting anything special, but somehow they have really good mashed potatoes. Waffles and syrup: 10/10. I hate to throw out a 10/10 like that, but then I ask myself, when have I had better? Watermelon is like an 8/10. I don't know that there's much to compare it to, but it was quite good. Banana cheesecake. 8/10. Fun and creative and delicious. Mac and cheese 7/10. Very good, but I've recently had better.

Really though, I think the fried chicken is 7/10. One of my pieces was soggy, but I don't even really care about that. Ish happens. I like a heavier, crunchier shell. It could have been more flavorful. While it's a bit different, the wings at Best Friend, which are just fried with a breading, have a much better flavor. There's a low end soul food place I sometimes visit and I think I prefer theirs too.

Went to Scotch 80 last night. I've been there a bunch because of boring reasons.

I really can't say enough about it. I took some foreign visitors to Bugsy And Meyer and it was about as bad as is possible for a strip restaurant at those prices to my everlasting shame. And I was pissing and moaning about that to my mom on another trip to Scotch 80, and the contrast between the 2 illustrates how good Scotch 80 is.

Seems like a lot of CET restaurants have moved to nickel and diming and ripping off customers like the general properties do. Bugsy charges for bread. Their crappy beer selection is $10-12 for a thimble full of beer.

Scotch 80 isn't cheap, obviously. But for a strip or almost-strip steakhouse, I think their prices are very fair. Last night we had rib eye cap, lamb chops, app, 1 cocktail 1 soft drink, 1 side and dessert and it was $212 + tip. Free bread! They also give you an amuse bouche near the beginning and a little chocolate at the end. My old fashioned was large and strong.

I'm not a stickler for service in general, but when you pay for it it's nice to get it. At Bugsy's it was literally like Olive Garden level. The service at Scotch 80 is, if anything, a level above what you pay for. Well dressed, great recommendations, funny and bright people, cleaning the crime scene between courses, your drink will never get to 75% empty, the manager always comes by.

The food is very good. TBH I'm not a great master of steak tasting. However, the same friend had ribeye cap at Oscar's a couple days ago. And I know Oscar's is more about the vibe and view, this is just an immediate reference point. Scotch 80 was clearly better. Maybe not the best on earth, but very good steaks. I've had fish there as well, and it's always quite good, as were the lamb chops. There's also a nice balance between creativity and tradition. You can certainly go in there and get a hunk of beef, potatoes and creamed spinach. But they have a lot of fun and different stuff too, like the hash browns or the fondu.

I can cleary remember 3 desserts. A pear tart, no longer on the menu, that was probably 10/10. A peach ice cream dessert that is not that rich, but is refreshing and lighter in case you over did it. Last night was the smores thing, which was really good and involves the waiter setting stuff on fire, which can be fun.

Completely agree ES2, Scotch 80 is in the top 5 steakhouses in Las Vegas for me. The sides are great, the prices you don't feel like they are out to get every penny, service is strong, and the steaks are competitive with everything besides CUT for me. Think my current top 5 are: CUT, Scotch 80, Bavettes, Delmonico, and feel like I might need to duck on my fifth one but Harlo has now produced 2 great meals in a row for me.

Also went to lunch at Delmonico for the first time, I exploded the bill with my bourbon consumption but $50 prix fixe is a steal for the food, environment, and service you get. Was a really nice break from the common lunches in Vegas.

We're looking at the 9 course at the bar. Any recommendations/requests?

Solo visit Bavette’s last weekend was a big W. Fantastic service. Personally my favorite ambiance, especially since I was just sitting at the bar by myself and not with wife/friends.

Got the center cut ribeye (perhaps cooked a tad over what I think of medium rare…not complaining though, as it was gone in less than 10 minutes), oysters, old fashioned and a pickle back shot.

Comped Craftsteak. Meh $125 with the comped beer and my tip included. 6/10.

Bone in NY Strip?
That is one sad salad. Whole anchovies? Maybe I'm the one out of touch on that one. Probably valued at 13 bucks or something stupid

I’d be certain they’re charging more than $13 for a Caesar Salad. My guess would closer to double that.

I’m also a meh on the whole anchovies. You need anchovy for the saltiness of the dressing on a Caesar but I’ll be f*cakes if I’m biting into whole ones. My history of having to open a jar of anchovies to add onto pizzas from time to time in my chef days and the stench emerging from the jar has stained me for life

That Caesar's salad looks sad AF. But while I think canned anchovies are disgusting, fresh anchovies don't taste or smell anything like the canned ones. That traditional smell in tapas bars in southern Spain is actually from fried anchovies (boquerones fritos) that people eat whole, including the head.

The anchovies on the picture look pickled though. Vinegar dissolves the bones, which are tiny anyway, so eating them whole should be the way to go.

Haven't been to Craftsteak in over a decade. Those pictures aren't making me want to go back anytime soon.

I, too, hate canned anchovies, but white anchovies on a Caesar salad are amazing. I think white anchovies are preserved differently than the cheap canned type.

Pretty hilarious that the guy judging the most talented young chefs also has probably two of the worst four or five steakhouses on the strip.

Fleming's Steakhouse. 10/10. 16oz ribeye was the best steak of my life. Not super expensive ($65), perfect service, not loud. I can't ask for more.

Yes underseasoned bone in strip. Not much flavor on the caeser salad with whole anchovies, I think it those things are supposed to blended into the dressing for a reason. Salad beer and steak for 100 is about right for a casino steakhouse. thank **** it was comped.

Definitely interested in the tasting menu. Somewhat interested in the wine pairings, not the high end option though.

That NY strip looks pretty close to exactly how I like mine cooked and served. Sorry to hear the experience was meh. Craftsteak has long been on my list to try but haven’t gotten around to it yet with so many other options.

We'll likely get a wine pairing and maybe some supplements, but we are not doing the $500 option.

As far as the Craftsteak pics, I've never been a fan. I agree the salad looks sad. Without seeing the interior of the steak it's hard to say, but the crust looks good to me. However, who plates it with the thyme?

I'd be interested to hear what the "signature course" is.

Looking at their menu descriptions, I'd most likely go for the 5 course unless that signature dish is really memorable. Between 9 and 7 course it's that signature course and a 'foie gras signature'. I lifted my personal foie gras ban when we went to Tim Raue last year but that was probably a one time thing. Between 5 and 7 course there's an extra app and a cheese course. Most of the time I don't really care for the latter.

Re wine pairing, I think the premium option is almost never worth it. Partage might obviously be the exception to that rule though.

Sadly this a non-starter. We will be getting the wine pairing.

That being said, the wine pairing at L'Atelier and é have both been generous and quite good.
