A notable omission from that list is the big 3 of French Restaurants in Vegas, Guy Savoy, Robuchon, and Twist by Pierre Gagnaire.

Twist will be very experimental, Guy Savoy will be fairly traditional, and Robuchon is somewhere in between.

I've only been to twist once, but I wasn't super impressed. Too many of the dishes were too far out there and not actually all that tasty. Lots of familiar flavors in unusual formats with unusual textures. There's a reason why it hasn't occurred to anyone else to make salty asparagus ice cream and serve it along side a cut of steak.

Unless you've been to so many Michelin starred restaurants that the standard opulent French meal is getting old, I wouldn't advise going to Twist over Robuchon or Savoy (or Alex or Picasso for that matter).

What's this asparagus ice cream hype all about? Wondered who's eating asparagus-strawberry ice cream when I first saw it here in Germany last month, but it looks to be a big hit, at least according to people involved in the ice cream business.

Any recommendation on the best restaurant to take a bunch of people on a night out? My sister is visiting Vegas with 5 mates so it has to be fun as well as great food, funky interior, etc

Got Nobu, N9ne, Botero, Mix as potentials.....

Thanks

Hi guys -- where would you get the best steak? I've been at Ruth Chris before, any better places?

1) R U 2 lazy to even search this thread?
2) It's Ruth's Chris Steak House - and yes I am going to be nitty. It's good, but IMO, when on vacation, NO CHAINS on good meals. Have your Ruth's Chris or MacDonald's @ home.
3) U joined in 10/06? Do some of your own research. Work backwards from the side menus of the good steak houses to fit your personal preferences.
4) If you want your steak medium well or worse, I will rip your tongue out. DUCY? (You have no use for it.)

Yes I did lose @ poker last night and Yes, I am extra grouchy this AM as a result.

Meh, you're right to be upset with this poster.

Just extreme laziness.

Take some anger management class maybe?

Of course I can do own research and most definitely will. I was asking for recommendations. If you cannot offer one nobody forces you to answer.

And in the US every steak that is not rare is as edible as a leather shoe. A rare steak in France/Germany is something different entirely and probably not sold anywhere in the U.S.

Hey dummy, there are 54 pages in this thread, maybe take a look over a few of them before posting "Duhhhhhhhh....what's a good restaurant to eat at?"

I was not asking for a good restaurant. There are a lot in Vegas, I am perfectly aware of that.

I was asking if someone can recommend another place to get an excellent steak except Ruth's Chris. But apparently it's useless here as people prefer to berate rather then answer questions. Never mind though, I will ask other people.

blane,

i'm sorry that you were unhappy with the responses you received. i think the reason for this is that your question was asked in sort of a humorous way.

you asked if there's a better place in vegas for steak than ruth chris', when in all likelihood, all of the steak joints in this town will serve a better steak than ruth chris'.

and if you had read just a few pages of this thread, you would have seen people recommending all kinds of steakhouses, and nobody recommending ruth chris'.

hopefully that helps you understand the responses you got.

here's a list of the 10 best steakhouses in vegas. you will find that they all crush ruth chris' like a small bug.

(1) Please start now.
(2) I've made steakhouse rec's at least 5 times in prior threads. Look 'em up. The lawyer's objection is "asked and ANSWERED."
(3) But here, you don't have to watch out for the horsemeat!

Conclusion: You can lead a European horse to water (knowledge), but you can't make him drink (think).

I agree that you should search this forum for tons of good reccomendations on this. Be that as it may, my reccomendations:

Carnevino - best steak and sides I have had in Vegas - everything was just outstanding.

A step below for me was SW, Delmonico's, and the Country Club Grill at the Wynn. All had great steaks, close to but not quite as good as Carnevino, and a little more hit and miss on the sides.

I was not that impressed with Prime. Steak was fine, but not quie up to par with the others, and was more expensive than most.

Haven't yet tried Craftsteak or Cut, but have heard good things about both.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

I have looked through the thread (not reading every post though) and also checked at other places -- maybe I should have phrased it differently as I was just looking for an immediate suggestion.

I only mentioned Ruth's Chris because I was there before (the one on Paradise Rd). A friend from Germany recommended it but I must admit that I wasn't neccessarily happy. The steak and food was good but even though I ordered rare this was rather what we call "medium done" in Germany. For that it was ridiculously expensive, too. But I had worse steaks before.

Thank you for the ideas, I will make sure to check them out this summer.

fwiw, the first and only time I've eaten Ruth's Chris was in Vegas. It was excellent in all regards.

yes its certainly a fine place to eat but it's the last place i'd recommend to a tourist, especially one from overseas. might as well have something truly unique while you are here.

sure, you folks in Peoria were just special, with your very own RC.

I understand the reasoning in recommending the fancier places, but I had to defend RC because the manager is a very cool, hard-working dude who also is a 2+2er.

That was exactly the reason I was asking. I know you can get some really excellent steaks in the U.S. but that was not in the upper league (although still good).

The best I had so far was amazingly in Germany:

They use American corn-fed livestock, though.

I liked Cut the most I think. Either that or Delmonico.

If you're happy with Ruth's Chris (and I like the place too), you'll be happy with just about any higher-end steakhouse that's mentioned in this thread. Note though that they will all be around the same price (or more) than RC, that's standard for higher-end steakhouses. SW is still my favorite in Vegas. Carnevino I seemed to like but I need to give it a second chance to really know what I think. Ditto for Cut (although I haven't been to the Vegas one, only Beverly Hills). I wasn't as impressed as others with Craftsteak, Prime or Delmonico.

1. 95% of Germans have no clue about good non-pork steaks
2. If they do the steak right at a Vegas steakhouse, rare means exactly the same it means in Germany. Dito for medium and well done (aka dead).

FWIW my favorite steakhouse in Vegas is Carnevino.

Sure, I don't suppose you can back this random statement with any evidence? I say 97% of Americans have no clue about European culture. (No I have no evidence for this).

Okay, Ruth's Chris cannot do it right then. And not any US Steakhouse I have visitied so far. But I will follow the recommendations and give it a chance again.

Thanks for asking. I should have mentioned in my initial post that she's moving across the country to live with me soon and is on a bit of a budget. So to narrow it all down:

- Something not ridic expensive (out the door for < $100 person (I plan to drink))
- No steakhouses
- Not crazy about Italian places either

Anything else is fair game.
