Any reviews or thoughts on old homestead steakhouse in Caesar’s?

Online reviews look solid but with so many other amazing steakhouses in vegas, is old homestead worth the price?

What are you thinking of ordering?

I have gotten one incredible steak (even for LV standards) and two mediocre ones which included horrible service although the GM did come by to ask and comped/expedited two Manhattans (@ $22 each).

There are too many great steakhouses in town to justify this place, but there certain scenarios to go (comps, the burger, etc).

Last time somebody asked that question I answered “only if you’re not the one paying” and Randall Stevens rightfully mentioned comps as another reason to go there. If you have comps that you need to use at Caesars Palace, there’s probably nothing wrong with Old Homestead because I don’t think other options there are less overpriced.

(Disclaimer: I haven’t been there in many years but the menu on the website looks the same it did back then)

I really did have a fantastic ribeye at OH ~5 years ago.

The bad service was our server talking to another party (who was some partial owner of a restaurant and a definite high roller). The GM intervening was honestly nice (we were waiting to pay and not waiting on food).

But yes, if you're paying with your own money, then go somewhere else that is most likely better and definitely more consistent.

EDIT: You might have been thinking about STK, but it's pretty much the same conversation except what vibe you're looking for (if you're not paying for the whole thing).

I assume in vegas, they don’t have a happy hour menu (I tried to look online and found nothing regarding it from vegas location). Also anyone have thoughts on takeout there? I’m considering ordering takeout from there potentially during wsop and hiking over for dinner breaks during events. I assume they are quick if you place order before dinner break + the walk shouldn’t be too bad from harrahs to Paris/Ballys.

I know almost all of my responses are about Cosmo, but a bunch of their restaurants have cocktail hour menus. I think most of the value is in the half off drinks which might not interest you, but some food options are decent and it's not a far walk from Paris.

I don’t think there’s a real difference between Ruth Chris in Las Vegas and anywhere else. At least I couldn’t tell any of them apart.

Pretty sure the LV location doesn’t participate in any of the national special stuff. But pre-Covid they had their own Happy Hour. Just in that lounge area though, not in the main dining room. Also only on weekdays from 4-6 or even 5-6. I’d call to find out if they still offer that.

Going to LV for WSOP for 7 days at the end of June. I'm looking for a fine dining recommendation where there is a sit down bar. I would prefer to just roll in and get seated immediately at the bar as I'm going solo this trip.

Budget doesn't matter and the only thing I don't like is sushi.

Practically all of them have this.

It's a total tourist trap, but at the same time Eiffel tower restaurant is a phenomenal date night spot. Your wife or gf will be so pumped to be there, and the steak tartare, filet rossini with foie gras, and gm souffle are incredible. Just stick to cocktails the wine prices are some of the worst in vegas.

It’s incredibly expensive for what I would call casual, and it is a little bit casual to be posting in the fine dining thread. But it definitely was a great experience last night at Anima by EDO. Highly recommend. And I *really* didn’t love EDO Tapas. I think they’ve really got it right here, but I worry the location in the Gramercy will doom them. It’s tapas but heavy Italian influence and some bizarre other influences that just work (like randomly having Dassai 45 on their menu and Furikake in a veggie dish). Their cocktail program — including their Sommelier Paolo bringing an Amaro cart after the meal — was great. I recognized one of their bartenders from his Tik Tok that reviews others’ cocktail-making. Four of us shared: green tartare, oysters, beet and carrot salad, farro w haricot vert; squash blossoms and lobster crostini; sausage pasta, ricotta gnocchi w bay scallops and enoki mushrooms, and duck fois agnolotti w some sort of foam and or air; the duck and lamb chop entrees; and we shared two desserts - butterscotch pudding which was excellent but not as good as Esther’s and a tiramisu which I didn’t try but others liked.. With a bottle of wine and a couple rounds of cocktails, and post-meal amaro and one coffee, it was just over 500 for all of us. Seemed pricey at the time but now that I wrote it out we got a ton of stuff and it’s absurdly better value than anywhere on strip. Again highly recommend. Everything was good but i would emphasis cold apps and pastas before hot apps and mains (mains were well-executed but a bit pedestrian, though pedestrian is a really harsh characterization of them). Lovely spot for a night out w friends or a nice date. Service was great, kitchen and runners all knew their stuff cold and even correctly pronounced everything. The waiter was great but pronounced nothing correctly lol. And Paolo is a treasure and you should talk Amaro with him.

Has anyone done Kabuto lately?

Haven’t gone since pre-COVID and was curious if it’s changed much.

Thanks

Haven't been mysef, but a lot of the vloggers were eating there during the WSOP. Some of them went multiple times. I trust Boski's tastes in this regard.

Went twice during WSOP. Decent, not exceptional. Wagyu rib cap was good.

Wagyu rib cap can make even the most mediocre steakhouses look good.

I thought someone did a video about the happy hour in Vegas, but it was years ago.

Has anyone been to Lago and Spago recently? Got bookings for both, mainly because we are staying at the Bellagio. Pros/cons?

First time to Jean Georges last week, really enjoyed it. Grilled octopus app, 6 oz wagyu filet with the dinosaur sized femur / bone marrow, trumpet mushroom side and chocolate cake for desert. Throw in a couple glasses of wine and it was a very, very good meal.

The chocolate cake was legit - mini lava cake with a bulb of white chocolate, waiter pours the hot chocolate sauce on the bulb that cracks open to reveal the ice cream. 10 out of 10.

Sorry I forget who originally put this on my radar but I appreciate it.
