Nobu maybe? I think we flew through a menu there in under 2 hours. It's at Ceasars and opens at 5.

Semi-related question: We're staying at Aria next week and want to know what the best tasting menu restaurants in the immediate area are.
We like Picasso, but I would like to expand our list of places.
Unrelated question : is there weed delivery to the strip yet or do I have to cab it?

e at Cosmo and Joel Robuchon at MGM are your two really high end tasting menus on the strip as I understand it, both easy walk from Aria

(actually just noticed this is for next week, that'll be too late for e reservations and I don't think JR has reopened yet)

Went to Barry’s Downtown Prime at Circa. Loved the decor and ambience. Old school steakhouse vibe done really stylishly.

Sides were all very solid (peas and mushrooms, bang bang cauliflower, and mash.) Ribcap is a rarity in Vegas steakhouses and it was a genuine treat, but the char from grill was bordering on too much for me. Desserts were mixed. Carrot cake was massive and good. Baked Alaska was left to flambé for too long and tasted too much of a burnt marshmallow which made it inedible for me

Scarpetta at Cosmo has a tasting menu for $125 but been too long since I’ve been there to vouch for its quality or value. I think you’re pretty SOL for tasting menus at the moment.

Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace would be your out of the way option, but at $555 pp before tax/tip I can’t in good faith rec it

Edit: Michael Mina is also open with two tasting menus at $168pp. Think it’s a solid 7 for strip dining at that price point

Tentatively booked a trip to Vegas this weekend. Gonna gamble on Pfizer...

I typically go solo, and grab a handful of decent dinners at restaurant bars -- Craft, Carbone, Gordon Ramsey Steak, etc. It this currently an option in "post-covid" Vegas? Or is the eating at the bar scene currently dead? TIA

I was able to snag a reservation for 5 of us at Lotus in June. I've never been. Planning on hitting Omega Mart then Uber over there. I assume it's worthwhile and lives up to the hype? Dish recommendation?

Just got back from a 2 week trip to Vegas and have 2 reports on fine dining.

First, cut was amazing. The cocktails were kinda meh but the steak (filet) and Kung po cauliflower was amazing. Only thought is with the Kung po, make sure you finish it after the steak as it’s super spicy and kinda killed my taste buds- so didn’t get to enjoy the last bites of the steak too much.

Next, wing lei Peking duck was amazing. I recommend getting the steamed buns instead of the rolls. I got a mix of both and the steamed buns were excellent. It was awkward as I was alone in wing lei and got the duck. They told me it was too much for one person. Lies- I killed that duck. It was very cool how they come out and cut the duck in front of you and assemble the duck on buns. The manner which they did it quickly was very impressive. It was a great experience and I would recommend everyone try Peking duck. It’s pricey but def worth it.

Joël Robuchon returns July 1 at the MGM Grand and the more casual workshop L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon reopens on July 15.
Just FYI as I know some were wondering if either would reopen.

So, prob a dumb question, but I have a reservation for e next week, and just found out my date doesn't eat pork or shellfish (lolreligion)... does anyone know if they can make allowances for that, and even if they do, will it still be worth going?

I was there on Saturday. I'm not specifically sure about those requirements, but they do make dietary restrictions and asked me twice so I have to think it's possible.

That being said, I remember an oyster, crab, and pork course where each was the central ingredient in the dish. I think mussels were also in a citrus course.

Based on Randall Stevens post about the number of dishes that include pork/shellfish, you might have to pick the vegetarian/vegan option. I assume they offer one? I would definitely call and ask and then get back to your date with their response.

BTW, that's not a dumb question at all. It feels like every place has their own policy/options and a lot depends on their kitchen setup. Also might be relevant how far on the religious seriousness spectrum your date is. I have muslim friends who eat pork. Other's don't but they eat regular gummy bears even though there's gelatin in them. And then I know one couple who don't eat anything from a pan/grill that's also been used to prepare pork. They brought their own small grill to a BBQ to make the same hamburger patties as everybody else because the host told them he made hotdogs on his grill in the past.

I forgot the iberico topped with caviar as another dish.

They emailed me a week out confirming our reservation and asking about dietary restrictions. I assume you'll get the same email. They spend 36 hours in prep time for the meal, so it seems reasonable that they have a lot of leeway for requests. As far if it's worth going with the substitutions, I don't have a good answer for you.

If you go, I'd like to hear about your favorite courses. Even though the ribeye was cooked perfectly, I thought the fluke was even better.

Hot take but I went to Robuchon as soon as it reopened and I think it’s age is starting to show. It was a good meal, don’t get me wrong but when I spend $600 pretip per person, the small things matter

Waited in the lounge and grabbed a cocktail that was served in a lowball glass and it came with small ice cubes. Drink is for sipping but these ice cubes punish me for sipping. Ok

Robuchon has always reheated your first bread serving and doesnt otherwise unless you ask. First service bread came not even lukewarm and because were dining on the strip the bread that’s on the cart in the open room is just cold otherwise. Not room temp. It’s cold. Its exactly the same as a couple years ago but with an addition of a vegan / gluten free bread

Plating across the board is super samey looking and because you’re often getting three plates at a time, often times in similar looking / shaped plates it really shows. I’d even say it verges on sloppy at times.

My partner got the vegetarian menu and one of the dishes was one of my dishes minus the foie gras. The dish was originally created to have foie gras. Feels pretty scammy tbh. Only gave one cake to take home afterwards so had to chop it up before we went home. It was dry, inexcusably dry

I’ll go back. It was their first night of service and the menu was quite different from my last visit, but these are some pretty serious strikes I think. FOH service was top notch

It's been years, but IIRC wasn't this specific issue part of the reservation process? At any rate, definitely call them ASAP and let them know the specifics and I'm pretty sure they will make every attempt to accommodate you. Whether it will be worth it is another question...

+1

The only difference is that I think they used to take email reservations (which resulted in replies). I booked through sevenrooms, stated I had no accommodations, and they still emailed back a week before the reservation to confirm.

How are folks getting E reservations? I went through their website and it says no availability for the next 3-4 months.

Scratch that. I did find availability for a party of 1. I guess reservations are just being grabbed immediately.

I did it through https://www.ebyjoseandres.com/

Which takes you to sevenrooms to book. They book 3 months in advance, but I'm fairly sure they only open reservations on the first of the month.

I booked at 5am eastern time on 5/1 for a 7/3 seating. The 3 months in advance is misleading as I should have been able to book on 4/3, but since they only open new reservations on the first of the month I had to wait until May.

I think all July reservations were taken by 5/3, so it's a small window to book. I did see some random seatings open up, but it will be hard to catch those and match your party number.

EDIT to add that I did book when they only had seatings of 6 for covid reasons. There were 8 people at our dinner, so the process may be slightly different post covid (I was only allowed to book parties of 2, 4, and 6 on May 1st).

Sorry for quoting myself, but I wanted to clarify. On May 1st they opened up all reservations for 3 months out (which is really just July since all June reservations were booked a few days into April). So if you are checking for reservations after the 3rd/4th of the month, then you will see they have nothing open.

Try emailing them to get on the waitlist for your given date. They opened up their capacity from 6 per seating to 8 at the beginning of June with the loosening of COVID restrictions.

When I tried booking a month ago, everything showed as booked, but the system was not reflecting the expanded capacity. I emailed and they called me back at the beginning of June and sent me a sevenrooms link.

Might be too late now, so make alternative plans.
