Carbone is good.
Thanks...booked Carbone.

How busy would Carnevino be on weekdays? Am I risking it by not booking a table?

Might depend on the size of your group, but with up to 4 people I have never had trouble getting a table without a reservation.

What’s the call ahead process for Riserva at Carnevino? How far in advance do we call? What’s the price range for Riserva?

Call the same day you’re planning on going, sometimes they’ll run out if you call further ahead of time.

Price range iirc is about $95/inch thickness to $110 with strip loin being lowest and T bone/rib being higher.

So the call is just for you to decide if you will go that day, not to reserve some Riserva? Our schedule is set and we are locked in on the date. Does that mean no reason to call?

Yeah for me that’s the reason I call. But you could reserve some too, I’m pretty sure I’ve done that before, but again it was the same day because they told me there wasn’t much left.

I found this on Carnevino’s FAQ

Quote:
I’VE READ ONLINE ABOUT A SPECIALTY DRY-AGED “RISERVA” STEAK. IS THAT AVAILABLE?

The Riserva steak is a limited-availability specialty item. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee that the Riserva steak will be available in advance of a meal at Carnevino. Only when a guest is seated in the restaurant are we able to confirm the availability of a Riserva steak.

Going with a friend to Vegas for his 50th and helping him with a special dining experience.

We are currently looking at:

Carnevino - Riserva.
SW steak at Wynn
And He just heard about: Michael’s Gourmet Room Which seems highly rated and recommended by someone he knows as “best meal of their life”. (https://southpointcasino.com/dining/...s-gourmet-room)

I never heard of Michael’s Gourmet and haven’t seen it here. Anyone familiar with it and able to give input? (I’m going to search soon but like first hand accounts.)

For the other two:
1) how would you describe atmosphere at Carnevino vs SW?
2) what are key differences between Carnevino and SW re:vibe, food options, price point, etc.?
3) so all SW tables have the view over the lake, etc.?

Many thanks.

Also FWIW, if you're looking at restaurants for Valentine's Day, I'd suggest going for those that aren't forcing you to get a special menu. Special holiday menus are worse than AIDS.
What makes Michael’s Gourmet Room a joke? Thanks.

If you are going for steak, have you looked into Cut or Delmonico's? I'd take both of them over SW. I'd also take Cut over Carnevino, but the Riserva might be that kind of special thing that you hardly find anywhere else.

P,

I’ve never heard of it either, but they definitely have gourmet pricing!

LO****ingL at those prices....and I thought Carbone was overpriced, at least that's on the strip! Who the hell spends that kind of money at Southpoint of all places?

Ratings look very good, but the prices are between expensive and outrageous. $10 for an espresso?

Went to CUT 2 years ago and it was good though dark and loud irrc and felt like it was a fair amount of pretense. Just not my style. Did I mention we are mostly 50. Felt a little bit of a younger vibe.

I have been to Delmonico a few times and enjoyed it. We actually changed from Delmonico to Carnevino for Riserva as something memorable. He has now mentioned SW for the view and a feeling Carnevino might be “fancy”. Not sure what he means by that.

Click on any of the posts with the menu prices. Really want to pay $22 for french onion soup?

It's one of those restaurants that exists for comped high rollers who have a 1950's idea of what good food is. That is not an endorsement.

Sounds about right:

What changes have you made over the years.
Never. Change? That word doesn't exist here at Michael's. We are so predictable that it's boring in a way.

We have his and her menus. Chivalry is alive and well at Michael's.
For those not familiar, his and her menus means that if a couple or couples go there, only the men’s menus have prices listed on them.

I've only ever heard good things about Michael's but haven't been. I'd be super interested in a meetup there to review it. Especially if we can get a guest appearance from El D...

Pricing must be based on the fact that only comped folks eat there. I’ve only heard good things about this place though

Based on that and all the yelp reviews, I gotta say, I’m kinda curious. The yelp reviews don’t sound like comped meals, lots of talk of people going there for special occasions and it being very expensive.

Maybe my next trip I should stay at south point instead of aria...
