Has anyone been to Julian Serrano recently and felt more rushed compared to prior visits?

My brother goes there 2-3 times a year for business dinners. They always ask the waiter to just keep bringing their signature tapas and daily specials with accompanying wines. During their most recent visit, food came to the table at a way faster pace than usually and instead of only removing empty plates, they took away some plates that were almost untouched.

After dessert, they immediately got the check and 10 minutes later, their waiter told them they could finish their 3 half-full wine bottles at the bar if they didn't want to leave yet. Now my brother wonders if the restaurant changed some policy to create more turnover? In that case, they would go to Jaleo next time.

Went to Carbone for dinner on my most recent trip and thought it was excellent.

Octopus, meatballs, and oysters were starters -- companions said the oysters were great (I obstained). Can attest to both meatballs and octopus being great.

We did family style on: spicy rigatoni, lobster rav, and veal parm. Of the three the veal parm was okay to good, the other two were excellent.

Drinks were good and overall thought it was a really nice meal. Though wouldn't go back w/all the other dinner choices in Vegas at price level --- wasn't ZOMGPonies!

Also did Bardot for brunch. Had the hunters waffle and side of bacon, along with the all you can drink Rose'. Very solid experience/value. Would definitely go back again, and plan to. Menu for brunch was solid.

Jaleo is great, and I've never felt rushed, but prices have gone up so much -- tough to keep going there, though on a corporate dime maybe I'd feel different.

Sorry to hear about JS. I'd for sure have excused myself from the table and found a manager. I still think he should go there now, off-hours, and have a face-to-face with a manager. Tell them service was totally unacceptable and why. 5:1 the manager gives him a business card and says to call him next time he comes in, and they'll take much better care of him. And I'd continue to call that manager every time I plan to go there from now on. Shouldn't have to do that of course, but...

I had a really nice meal at Piero's recently. Super old school. Good wine and veal, excellent service. Definitely not cheap, and I don't think it's a value proposition at all, but the service was really solid, and the place had a good all-around vibe. Worth a visit now and again.

This sounds like a one-off situation where they needed the table for a reservation and were clumsy about how they dealt with it. There's a nicer way- politely offer to buy dessert or drinks if they'll move to the bar or another table.

The only thing with Julian Serrano relative to your question that i can say is generally how fast they bring out food. Its one of the only places off hand that I can think of that brings out food so fast its kind of off putting. So i guess, my answer is maybe. I still like the place a lot tho

Thanks guys for the feedback on Julian Serrano, appreciate that!

My brother messaged the guy who paid for the visit and told him to call the restaurant GM. Looks like they were sorry and offered to take the wine off the check. Since that wouldn't really help anyone, except for the company that pays the check, they'll get something special next time instead. No clue what that might be and I'm pretty sure my brother won't be part of that group anyway.

funny sidenote: Apparently the guy that paid the bill has a yearly food/beverage budget of $80k, which might be more than he's making after taxes..

Just out of curiosity, did your group of friends and my group hang out a couple times in the fall/winter 2011 in Rosarito? I recently remembered playing Connect 4 against somebody there, but totally forgot who that person was.

I'm guessing probably and yes. I lived in Rosarito from August 2011 until about June 2012 and I tried my best to meet up with and hang out with as many people as possible so that all makes sense. I was also nearly GTO at connect 4 back in 2005 and while I'm nowhere near as good now as I was back then, I can still crush any standard noob all these years later obviously. I have zero recollection of playing anyone in Mexico but that would make sense since its always very fun for me when I can enter into the mix every year or two when I see the game being played.

Side note but if anyone out there wants to meet up for some nice dinners feel free to hit me up any time, always looking for new friends.

I'm going to be in town next Friday but am getting in very late (11PM). Are there any late night high end dining options? I feel like I asked this last year.

I'll be checking in at the Wynn probably around 11:30-11:45.

If you're in Gaslamp, I've eaten at Searsucker a few times and it's been reasonably good. Fun place. Pricey.

For divey joints, I have found Hodad's (downtown, since PB is so crowded) to be decent for burger and beer. Or milkshake -- haven't had one but they looked incredible.

For overpriced tacos, Puesto was a fun place for dinner. No value but was an objectively pretty good meal.

Neighborhood at G and 8th had a really good shaved Brussels salad and the fried chicken was great. Somehow the chicken doesn't seem to be on the spring menu online !?!

Kettner exchange in Little Italy a great little spot too for dinner or drinks.

(None of these will be rave-worthy but you'll have a decent meal in a cool environment and enjoy your vacation.)

the one, the only, the legend... Roberto's

start with an appetizer of three rolled tacos w/ guac

for the main course, a carne asada burrito or two... or carne asada fries

not sure about dessert options

Gah - apologies for this. These are all pretty casual -- it somehow didn't set in that this was asked in the fine dining thread

JP,

I've done an 11:30 seating at STK, I think that was the last one. So you could do that straight from the airport.

Will be in vegas june 21-july 5. Trying to get all my reservations done ahead. Excited to be trying E for the first time. Need a good recommendation for a sushi place. Tried Kabuto, Nobu, and Sushi Samba and rank them in that order. Debating if doing Kabuto again or if there is another omakase style awesome sushi place worth trying. So I guess I need two recommendations:

1. awesome place for sushi rolls
2. awesome place for authentic omakase

Whenever I see anything on Piero's all I can think of is Bob Stupak getting beat up there by Benny Binion's grandson.

am i imagining things or perhaps i was the one being annoying, but last time I was in vegas, it seemed that bartenders at a few of the higher end places I visited were very unfriendly and cold. Is that standard in Las Vegas or did I just run cold?
