Hello 2+2
My name is John. Moving to Henderson on July 5th. Me and two roommates are sharing rent on a 4 bdr w pool. Should be fun... Im 30 years old and I've been a server in the restaurant industry for 11 years. Ive worked every angle, high paced chaotic, business casual, fine dining steak and seafood(not white glove), served in Reliant for the Houston Texans games, high paced environments, slow, boring, all sorts of places...Honestly my wine knowledge is not too good. I rarely drink (1 or 2 a month maybe), never liked it much, so wanting to learn wine in depth has never appealed to me. But don't get me wrong, Im no bum here, I know some about wine but not as much as I'd like. But knowledge is power...Long story short I'm wondering if I could get some suggestions of good places to work, nicer areas than others, places to avoid, best environments, good money??? ALSO, how long does it take to get my proper licenses in Vegas?? Should I look in or outside a casino? I enjoy the hospitality business... The only two people I know in Vegas at the moment will be my 2 roomate's from Texas. I literally have no idea what to expect or what to look out for? Im looking forward to hopefully meeting some fellow 2+2ers out there though. Any type of info will be much appreciated. Thanks I will post this in a cpl other areas. FINE DINING THREAD- I know there are superstar elite servers working at all these BA places Ive been reading about in this thread. Im not on there level.. BTW looking forward to many of these places!!! JEEEEZUS!!.. BUT My hospitality and ability to make a guest feel at home is my biggest help to any team. And my wine knowledge will always grow... I would love to make my mark in a very nice restaurant in Vegas. But I know I have dues to pay first. If anyone might know a good steakhouse to apply for Id appreciate it. Thanks 2+2

That's really great loosekanen thanks for the advice. You're definitely right. In my kabuto review I definitely get very preachy and a lot of people are gonna think I'm being condescending but I really just want to help people appreciate food they may not like at first glance.

Trip coming up and I'm really looking forward to some good dining. Ive got some of it planned but what I am really looking forward to the most is some really good Japanese. I live in a place where... well... basically any edible fish is coming from a nearby lake and then its probably getting fried.

I guess what I'm looking for is the best omakase in town. I've read a lot of this thread and seems like lots of people suggesting Kabuto. I've done Sen of Japan before on my last trip and really loved it. Money's not really an option but of course highest price doesnt always = best. I wouldnt even mind trying two different places(there for a week), and I will likely be dining alone on these.

Anyway some options and pros/cons would be great if someone wouldn't mind

I'm that guy that loves to be a contrarian for the sake of doing it but the answer is Kabuto.

Why don't you eat seafood? This is a good time to start.

Will be trying Del Monico at the recommendation of the thread. Any thoughts on Joe's Seafood in Caesars?

Thx for reminding me on Joes. I've had lunch there a couple of times and thought it was a pretty nice place for lunch, (lots of steakhouses in Vegas only open for dinner) whilst also thinking it wouldn't be a great choice for dinner. (i.e. other places make more appeal for dinner)

Went to Echo and Rig in Tivoli Village last night. Came away very impressed. Price was reasonable, steak I had was fantastic, and I liked their selection of creative/interesting sides that you don't usually get at a steakhouse

Fairly standard steakhouse. No great reason to recommend but no reason to not recommend. Crab legs are decent.

Sorry for this off topic post but with all the sushi talk I know someone mentioned where good sushi and Japanese food in in NYC. I'm visiting there for first time on Saturday and looking for recs. Also looking for good gastro pub type place (fine food with non stuffy ambiance)

do you guys not think there is a noticeable difference in the quality of the fish since gen-san left? i haven't eaten there in a year but remember thinking last couple times i went "this is not the same place i fell in love with"

It's been far too long for me to accurately compare them but it's still so far above anything else in town I can't imagine suggesting anywhere else.

Delmonico yday was really top notch. Bone-in ribeye was cooked slightly over what I'd consider MR usually, but it was so freaking tasty I didn't care. I asked the waiter and he said that is what they serve as MR so I'll have to believe it. Don't have much US steakhouse experience.

Everything else was great too. Sides (fingerling potatoes and creamed spinach) and starters (bbq shrimp and heirloom tomato salad). Banana pie for desert was ridic over the top but really amazing even tho i'm not a big fan of sweets.

I def enjoyed the steak here more than Cut, but I had American Waygu there which I consider a rookie mistake.
