i literally drove out to vegas last year for my bday just cuz i wanted kabuto (from LA).

and esp if you're on a budget you just cannot beat the value compared to what you're going to pay for anything in the same ball park quality wise on the strip.

i would advise against michael mina at bellagio.
i was REALLY underwhelmed, and if you only have budget for one real nice meal please don't waste it there.

there is a mexian place in aria (i think called javier's) which is pretty tasty has a nice atmosphere, isn't too pricy and is open late.

there is also a pretty delicious pizza place in aria thats open late as well (great shakes).

but i can't stress enough that if you've never been to kabuto and want sushi don't be discouraged by the cab ride.
its not far off the strip and it will most likely become your fav restaurant in vegas (again if you enjoy high quality sushi).

masa is delicious but absurdly over priced and the selection of fish can't touch kabuto.

man everytime i open this thread it makes me so eager for wsop (i can't stand wsop but man i love being out there for a month playing cash games and crushing the food soooooooo hard).

i'm pretty sure this year might be my personal best in terms of destroying vegas restaurants.

i'm setting the over under on total times eating at kabuto in 30 days at 12 and for hot n juicy/boiling crab 10.

i would prolly take the over on both.

It has been a few years, but the wife and I both enjoyed Yellowtail.

As someone else said, it also has a nice view.

I've only stopped in there for a quick bite (read: chips/salsa/queso), but their jalapeno margarita is amazing.

ya their margaritas are legit.

also really awesome chips n salsa.

thought the steak was a lil bland (really good quality and well cooked just zero seasoning).

I played at B the other day and a guy next to me ordered a couple rolls from Yellowtail. Smallest rolls I've ever seen, looked like the same rolls (but smaller, nothing special) I would get for $8 at the place down the street from my house. Yellowtail price for 2 of those tiny rolls was $39 plus tax/tip. Saved me some $$ since I was going to order some rolls too...

Heading to Delmonico later tonight with gobbo, thinking of doing something along these lines:

Truffle chips
Gumbo or Heirloom salad
Filet
Grits
Mushrooms or broccoli
Root beer float
Banana cream pie

Does anyone have any specific recommendations for Delmonico that trump the above? I am a filet guy for texture reasons, but am willing to give the bone-in ribeye a chance if it's not overly fatty. I'm pretty adverse to fatty steaks though.

Kind of torn on the gumbo vs heirloom choice, both seem to have universally great reviews. Same with mushrooms vs broccoli.

The only thing set in stone is the truffle chips and the banana cream pie. Everything I've read about both is a rave review.

Anyone been to The Country Club at Wynn? My folks are coming to town and staying at the Wynn, and they're interested in eating there...I've been to Lakeside...is it similar?

Banana cream pie is a must. Truffle chips are fine. Last time I was there we had truffled deviled eggs (special), which were pretty solid. Would absolutely recommend bone-in ribeye before the filet. Gnawing on that bone is a treat.

We had really good sorbet last time I was there as well (three types of berry sorbet). How many are you? I think we got sorbet, root beer float, and the banana cream pie after annihilating the bone in ribeye, bone in strip, and filet (with mushrooms, creamed spinach, trufled deviled eggs, potatoes, and one or two other things).

Good wine helps as well

Had lunch there today. The food there is underwhelming tbh, especially for the price, but it's a great place to have lunch outside (they have heaters if it's cool out) and watch the golfers/waterfall. Probably the best business lunch spot in the city imho, though I do like poolside lunch at Culinary Dropout and Simon in season.

Chop,

Gotta get the bbq shrimp imo.

I really love the lobster bisque, but it's prob not as unique as some of your other options.

I always get the bone in ribeye, but wouldn't recommend that based on your dislike of fatty steak.

I'd go bone in NY over filet, but if you prefer filet just get filet. They may also have a bone-in filet special.

Thanks for the recs.

We went with bone in ribeye for gobbo and filet for me, and shared. I'm glad I went with the filet based on the ribeye texture. Both ordered medium rare, filet came out perfect but ribeye was definitely overcooked to medium.

I had gumbo and gobbo went with the bisque, and we shared a taste of each. Gumbo was just OK but bisque was very tasty.

The chips were not amazing or worth raving about. I don't get why everyone on Yelp raved about how great they were. We ate maybe a third of them.

Sides were grits and asparagus. Enjoyed the grits, asparagus was OK. Grits were a little thicker than most people probably like grits, but I really enjoyed them that way.

We split a special for dessert - cinnamon roll bread pudding. It didn't look very appetizing but tasted great. Decided to save the banana cream pie for another day.

I also crushed a root beer float and got a raised eyebrow followed by an approving nod from the waiter when I ordered it with the drinks.

Raku and L'Atelier both make the national Eater 38.

I've mentioned my like of Country Club elsewhere ITT. Atmosphere is great, food is very good. It's Wynn-priced, of course. Haven't been to Lakeside which looks meh to me.

Lotus of Siam January 17, 2015

I live approx 15 minutes away from Oakland & 30 minutes away from San Francisco. I'm surrounded by some of the best cheapest Asian food in America.

Although gobbo recommended I try a different Thai restaurant, I wanted to see what the hype was about. I made reservation for 2 for Saturday night. We arrive and are immediately seated while overhearing people accepting to wait 1+ hour for the same table.

Garlic prawns: the shells really do taste like chips.

Drunken noodle Soft shell crab: noodles weren't anything special, should have ordered the soft shell crab salad

Crispy duck panang: very meaty slices of duck, curry sauce not overpowering, great with steam rice.

Not shown: northern khao soi

Portions enough for 4. If I were to ever go back, it would have to be a group. If want to try more items. Reservations highly recommended.

Although it as still a satisfying meal,
I thought it wasn't deserving of all the hype.

Dinner for two needs at least two orders of jerky. Probably four.

It's Abita root beer, second only to Sprecher. Other than that, not that I know of. It was pretty good ice cream, not sure what it was.

The CRBP was indeed tasty. Not as good as you'd imagine, but very, very good.

Perhaps strip next time. I like the filet because I know I will pretty much always like filets.

Back in town with a crew for the first weekend of March Madness and just booked seats at the counter at Kabuto for omakase. Trying to decide between the degustation menus at Picasso vs Joel Robuchon, can anyone who's been to both make a recommendation? Will also try to squeeze in a meal at Chada, but want to leave some flexibility in the schedule so not planning on making a reservation there. Think we'll have problems getting a table late night on a busy weekend if we decide to go?

Been a while since I've been to Robuchon but I think I enjoyed Picasso more overall but if the money means absolutely nothing to you, go to Robuchon.

Chada after midnight is usually very easy to get a table, very few people late night. I don't anticipate you having a problem.
