Casting vote should be how noisy the group is likely to be. The noisier it will be, the more you should lean towards N9ne (or STK, or Botero) as you will fit right in.

If everyone is going to be well behaved, lean more towards CUT.

There's a substantial enough amount of difference between the two in atmosphere and cost (quality too). N9NE is a steakhouse. Cut is a fine-dining version of a steakhouse. I hope the distinction is clear. And the loud and boisterous thing should factor into your decision.

Is there anything that differentiates one from the other? I've been to N9NE once and remember it being awesome, never been to any of the others.

Thx in advance.
Hey guys, been flicking through the thread and yhis post sort of helps my question for you:

My parents are heading to Vegas this week and they have asked for the best place to go for a great steak.
But I'd like two recommendations, firstly I suppose one from the above list but secondly, one that is more like a local restaurant, off strip I'd assume?

Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice/recommendations/tips........

EDIT: For the second recommendation, my parents are Vegas vets and been going every year for the last 15-20, so off strip/downtown etc etc; is not a problem, somewhere with like a local feel to it. Fine dining is standard obvs, but they like to go local too.....just give a bit more info to help....thks

Sorry for the vague and somewhat OT question, but is a restaurant in Las Vegas a profitable business if properly run or the competition is so huge (restaurants are everywhere from what I have seen) that unless you hit an home run it is difficult to actually have a chance and make decent money from it?

MathKev: All of the offstrip steak houses in Vegas are chains. I don't think you'll be able to find a great, off-strip, local, steak house, especially one with a locals vibe.

The restaurant industry has one of the lowest success rates, and the economy isn't the best.

Many of the on-strip restaurants are subsidized by the casino and are actually losing money.

That being said, if you hit a home run like Lotus of Siam, or Tao (half night club so kind of cheating), you'll make an absolute killing.

While it does have locations in several cities, I have heard from various reliable sources that Del Frisco's which is offstrip is the nuts. Is this inaccurate?

Compared to the high-end strip steakhouses mentioned in this thread, like Cut or SW? Definitely not.

There are a lot of really awesome offstrip restaurants but steakhouses don't even come close to matching their strip equivalents.

Del Frisco's is basically no different than Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Fleming's, Capital Grille etc. There's absolutely no reason to go there in Vegas- you can find a comparable or better steakhouse anywhere on the strip.

For downtown steakhouse, check out Hugo's Cellar at the Four Queens Hotel (seriously). Old school, fine-dining Vegas vibe with great wine list.

As far as steak houses - N9NE is very good, and the vibe is young and hip - get a table with a view of the bar scene.

If you want the overall "Classic Old School Las Vegas" over the top food and service (and price) try Michael's gourmet room at the South Point - he moved it from the Barbary Coast, complete with stained glass ceiling. Very old school Vegas, as I said.

For French, it is to bad that Alex at they Wynn closed. For classic French try Andre's at the Monte Carlo - his place down by the courthouse was better, but it closed a couple of years ago. Service at the Monte Carlo can be spotty, but the food is always good. Another place that is worth a try is Pinot Brasserie at the Venetian - much better than Bouchon and cheaper.

Michael's at South Point might be the biggest joke in Vegas. I trust Curtas:

And come on now, Bouchon is much better than Pinot Brasserie.

He went to the Nascar Cafe at Sahara for a burrito. Terrible, terrible choice.

Food Network has a new show called Restaurant Stakeout wherein a New York restauranteur travels around the country to help owners improve the service at their own restaurant. He and his crew set up surveillance cameras and then he watches the staff in action (both the front and back of the house).

This week's episode is all about Firefly and I couldn't believe what I was watching. A waitress getting into an argument with a customer, throwing a towel at her and then lying about it to the manager; a customer who asked that leftovers be wrapped up in a "doggie bag" giving the plate to a food runner who then proceeds to eat from the plate in the kitchen before putting the remains into the styrofoam container; other kitchen help eating from plates before they are given to customers; and just all around rotten service and attitudes from the majority of the restaurant's staff.

Here's a synopsis of the program:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/restauran...own/index.html

I haven't been to the Sahara location, but I'm curious how many of the staff are still there. One person was fired during the filming and a couple of others have their faces blurred on screen so I assume that means that they didn't give their permission to be identified and that they're gone as well.

The episode will be repeated tonight at 6:00 (at least here in Vegas) for those interested in watching.

i need reco's. Going with the GF in a couple weeks and need to figure out the meals. She's not a major steak eater or shell fish eater, so if we're going to that type of place the alternative options need to be good. She's never been to vegas before though i have and have eaten at picasso, lakeside, fleur de lys, robouchon latalier, nobu, olives, nine, and mesa grill.

Have been thinking of trying julien serrano in aria, anyone been?
Need at least one top notch place to take her...
Then a bunch of mid to high end places for good meals along the way. Any ideas? Experience adds bonus points... and i want to wow her in general.

I saw this too and it was eye opening. Looks standard for what you get when you just hire a bunch of too cool for school boys and girls.

If I lived there I'd also be too curious about the change in staff/service and go there just to check it out. I'm sure that show gave business a bump. Seems like good food there

FWIW that's the Sahara location which I've heard has been terrible from day 1. The paradise location is supposed to be the only good one.
