Shot in the dark, aficionados, but I have a two nighter in London in about a month and I'm solo. Any recs for a good bar seating fine dining situation anywhere in the area? Steakhouse would be fine as well. I love sitting at the bar solo at both CUT and L'Atelier for reference.
We have a L'Atelier over here tooo.

To some extent, trying to come to London to get steak is the same mission as trying to go from London to Vegas to get Indian. That said, Goodman's offers a very good alternative to Hawksmoor and their Maddox St branch definitely has a good bar dining option.

Heliot is the steakhouse in The Hippodrome is very decent and easy to get a table, usually a walk-in is no problem, but they don't have a full service bar, so table for 1 it is in there.

Other options for a bustling brasserie feel (won't be fine dining, think Bouchon) there are some good options amongst the Ivy group - decent bar service at Le Caprice and in particular, The Ivy itself at their central dining bar. As a wildcard in the same group, Sexy Fish is very popular and their bar service is excellent. If you go there, I can't tell you too much about the sushi but try and fit in their duck and watermelon salad as part of the order, incredible.

We had dinner at Lakeside one night too. The CarneVino music was distracting but still not nearly as wildly inappropriate as the singing frog or other crazy nonsense at SW/Lakeside.

Doesn't Lakeside have a DJ or am I mistaken on that? A restaurant with a DJ is an instant disqualifier for me.

I didn't notice one but I wouldn't be that surprised.

Not sure if they have an actual DJ, but I don't know a single person who thinks that Lake of Dreams show is the appropriate setting for the price point of SW and Lakeside.

That's certainly true, but Wynn long ago stopped trying to be a fancy place for fancy people. Now they just charge fancy place prices to attract the clubdouche crowd.

Has anyone tried MB steak at Hard Rock? Always looking for a steakhouse that is somewhat unique and this one at least looks promising, and maybe a few dollars cheaper than the major strip steakhouses

I didn't even know that a new steakhouse opened at Hard Rock. Just looked at the menu and agree, it looks a couple bucks cheaper than Strip places (especially the $68 32oz porterhouse) but what exactly do you think is unique about the place? At least the menu to me looks like it could be one of your standard upscale chain steakhouses. Interior furnishing looks nice, but again not too different from what you expect at a place like Capital Grille.

Tangent!

AJ's Steakhouse at the Hard Rock used to be my favorite restaurant in Vegas- great vibe, great food. Really miss that place.

I'm guessing whatever incarnation of steakhouse they have there now isn't anywhere near as good, since nothing about the Hard Rock is as good as it was a decade ago (shedding a tear).

I saw their twitter feed, it definitely passed the "does it make me hungry and think about leaving the apt" test. Plus just about all of the apps and sides are up my alley which is key when there are so many great places to get steaks in Vegas

Is this the place that had the rat pack early 60s decor going on? Not sure why they closed it.

Also correct

But in general, probably because the Hard Rock went from a place where grown-up adults wanted that kind of cool (trust me kids, it used to appeal to actual mature adults) to being a place infested with Rehab-douche.

Agreed. Would you put this era around 2001-2003?

If you are looking for another restaurant with overpriced seafood, Chart House at Golden Nugget might be an option. But they don't have the pasta selection of Costa di Mare.

I'd say their golden era started when the place opened in 1995 and probably until around when you say. I still remember it when it was one tower with about 300 rooms and the only dining options were Mr. Lucky's, Nobu and the Italian place across from Nobu. First expansion brought in AJ's and Pink Taco. It was certainly done as a cool place by the time they expanded to what they are today, and that was like a decade ago.

They had a great looking poker room a few years later that never took off.

I personally think chart house is decently priced for what it is. You certainly never will be wowed by the originality of the cook, but I think they offer above average versions of all the seafood basics, although the lobster bisque is quite lacking.

I have been to other chart houses in DC and boston and I think that is the price point that they do best. Unfortunately Fertitta has expanded to so many different chains with so many different price points. Im sure no one has been wowed by a Mortons in years, but he completely ruined that place. The food is very similar to any of his 20-30 dollar entree places, for double the price. He also took all of the old school ambiance, and price cut in every area imaginable.

There are fine dining sushi restaurants and your standard "steak & seafood" places, including upscale chains like McCormick & Schmick's and fine dining options at the off-strip resorts (Hard Rock, M, Red Rock, Palms), but fine dining Mediterranean like Costa di Mare or Milo's that's not on the Strip or Downtown? I am curious to hear if that exists because I'd be interested to go there..

Other mama might be a good option where almost everything on the menu is seafood, but they don't have the seafood pasta options

Whatever happened to RM? It was solid like 5 years ago when I wanted to sit at the bar somewhere.

Chica was great. Service was pretty casual but the food was great, also the drinks.
