Yonaka was great. Went during the 5:00pm-6:30pm happy hour and only ordered off the happy hour menu. For 3 people, got too much food + drinks for $100. Good food and great bargain.

Did you happen to see a random group of guys going in and out of Kabuto? Lol.

Definition of hole in the wall.

Wasn't the best BBQ I've ever had, but the best I've had in Vegas. Super affordable too.

Rollin' Smoke is a hole in the wall from the outside, for sure - took us 20 minutes driving in circles in the dark last night before we found the entrance on 3185 S Highland Drive queezed in between "Diamond Caberet" and Kiesub Electronics' unimpressive corporate headquarters - but certainly not from the inside.

Polished industrial stainless steel tabletops, "upside down" artful stained wood wainscoting, various sculptured, painted and a single actual stuffed pig and wall wide naive style Vegas murals makes for an interesting interior.

We were greeted by chef Trey Holland, who is VERY serious about his BBQ, and insisted on hearing our reviews of how his cooking measures up to out local Hells Kitchen NYC top-notched Daisy May BBQ. Far from being an accomplished BBQ connoisseur, let me just say - what we were served at Rollin Smoke blew Daisy May out of the water!

Basically, the meat was juicy as it should be, all tastes were distinct, crisp and rich, while the rubs were light, spicy, and allowed us to finish our meal without feeling like stuffed pigs ourselves.

Of course it's not fair to compare two restaurants based on a pulled piggy sandwich and a brisket with fried okra and bacon potato salad as sides, but we cannot wait for the next visit to explore the menu - this one looks like a keeper!

Rollin Smoke is awesome. Their chopped brisket is great.

Best happy hours/specials?

Milos for lunch and Yonaka for early dinner/11pm+ are the only ones that come to mind.

Went back to Rolling Smokes BBQ. The BBQ was good but not great last time, but got the baby back ribs and they were super super good.

Finally a regular BBQ place in Vegas! Everything else was greatly disappointing.

Quick review: some friends recommended Ramen Sora over in China Town last night, was very impressed. I don't think I've done Ramen for a meal outside of the styrofoam cup variety, but this stuff was tasty. They have 3 types of broth (Miso, then two other that were basically based on soy sauce or just salt), then different ingredients, mostly charsou pork, veggies/mushrooms, seaweed, and egg. (They did have a corn & butter variety that my friend said was very good.)

I got Spicy Miso Ramen with "Killer Spicy" Meat - basically ground pork with peppers. Very nice and spicy, great flavor - ate every bite and did all but slurp the broth. Will definitely be back. Ramen runs $8-$12 or so.

Service was very good too. Waitress was very friendly. There was a line of folks ahead of us when we arrived but the tables turned quickly and the wait wasn't bad.

Lastly, they had a picture on the wall for a Japanese Whiskey served in a large glass mug over ice. I really wanted someone to try it but no one took it up. TR please if one of you do.

Was looking at yelp and all the pictures are smothered in BBQ sauce.
I usually judge a bbq restaurant on the quality of the meat without sauce: is this place good because of the sauce only or do they have a good smoked brisket and ribs as well?

Interesting about those pictures. All the meats I have had were rubbed with no sauce.

Pardon my ignorance, but until post #1487 I didn't realize Vegas had a Chinatown.

rbk: Maybe had an off night or something, but costco regularly has these $100 gift cards to Lucille's for $80, picked it up and while the place was huge and super packed, I didn't find the food that good. Maybe I'll try it again next time I go to costco. The Lucille's at Green Valley is actually pretty close to my house.

Doc: Man, if you live in Vegas, shame on you. >50% of my dining out in Vegas is in Chinatown, particularly in the center with kabuto/monta/raku

Ichiza GOAT.

Last edited by ClarkNasty; 12-20-2013 at 11:51 AM. Reason: Kabuto/Raku don't remotely qualify as casual dining.

Just went to Forefly for tapas

Great ace, not far from the strip and great prices.

Make sure you being between 4 to 6 people so you can try out more different items.

Cheers,
