The west coast does plenty of things better of course — but I will keep looking for my sandwich Mecca.

Do let me know if and when you find it. Never give up.

Jersey Mike’s Club Supreme extra meat and cheese, not Mike’s way w brown mustard. Being honest it would have been enhanced by mayo, but still was great.

'Mikes way' is pure greatness for a simple samich... for my taste anyway. Love Oregano and oil/vinegar they use.

Value considered, In N Out can be great if eaten on the spot. Wait 10 minutes and the fries are dunzo and the no amount of lettuce is going to stop the juices from making a soggy bottom. Super nitty, I know.

Going on pure quality and flavor though, Shake Shack > In N Out.

We got fried spam musubi, fried oysters, a pork/shrimp katsu combo, and a pork curry. Wife thought the curry was better than zen’s. I am not sure, would want to side-by-side. But it was all good. Definitely worth working into the rotation. I didn’t think the shrimp was necessary. Next time will just do pork katsu or pork katsu curry. They have you make your own katsu sauce by crushing sesame seeds so you can make it as sesame or not, as you like. Super casual joint, like zen.

That's the key... grab the food and eat ASAP.

Don't walk back to your room.
Don't drive home.
Don't find a CD from a guy on a bridge...

Really subjective... I'm just partial to INO. Dollar for dollar, I'll take INO.

My first time in a Jersey Mike's, about fifteen years ago, I walked into the one on Maryland Pkwy across from UNLV and ordered a sandwich. Looking at the sign behind the counter, I asked for it Mike's way. The employee looked at me blankly; I might as well have asked for it Xenu's way. Haven't had this problem since, but jeez...

I used to enjoy Togo's simply because they had good bread, great egg salad and they would pickle it up nicely. But for me Jimmy Johns is still king. Almost any local deli or even some pizza places will have better but I digress.

Jimmy Johns king? No ****ing way. I’ll never get the love some people have for JJ. I’ve tried several different sandwiches from there and they are average at best.

Well, if they bring back the 2 for 1 Frenchie, give it a try.

IMO, JJ has good rolls, but the rest is average.

Generally speaking JJ ranks behind Jersey Mikes, which will fully customize your sub from a pretty good range of options.

Yeah, this. But I won’t go to JJ’s anymore because the owner is one of those pieces of garbage who hunts endangered animals. He can burn alive.

Jimmy Johns and Firehouse are terrible. Slight upgrade on Subway or Port of Subs. Capriottis is still the best even though you get a lot less meat than you used to. Been a long time since I had Jersey Mikes but I do remember liking it. Just never lived or worked near one.

There was a Togos in my town where I grew up. It was 30 years ago but it was good.

Jon smiths is ok too. Unfortunately much like pizza none of these places can touch most Random east coast sub places with an Italian name

Doesn’t have to be an East coast sub shop either - specialty market that makes good sandwiches would be great too. I had a dry as hell turkey club from Bagel Cafe the other day. Roma sandwiches are good but not a huge fan of the bread they use. But Roma is the right idea. I realize now how much I took my sandwiches for granted when I lived in NJ as a kid and post grad school.

Never get the turkey at bagel cafe. Get corned beef or pastrami there if you’re getting a sandwich...anything but turkey.

Lol at putting Subway and Port Of Subs above any sandwich shop.

Spam musubi? Is it Hawaiian? Japanese? Okinawan?

Usually you get better katsu at a katsu joint and better curry at a curry joint, but I used to really like the katsu at zen, so I'll look forward to the kare here.

Edit: I google-mapped it and it's on top of something called "Euphoria Wellness Marijuana Dispensary." Were you ravenously hungry when you ate there?

I don't know if it's still the same, but NJ used to be full of good bread. When't the last time you've had a good hard roll? Or even seen a hard roll?
