I knew someone would have tried this place. Anyway, just discovered it myself since I work nearby. $9 lunch special pasta w meat sauce, salad, bev. The nuts. Creamy garlic dressing

IME, stick to pasta and sauce. Eggplant parm and chicken parm not great (wtf grilled chicken baked w some bread crumbs and cheese). Before trying those I had an excellent opinion of this place.

Does anyone have recommendations for casual places for food (and drinks) near Encore?

My wife and I will be there in August. She has always wanted to try Nobu so we we are going there one night. I also received some great suggestions for other fine dining from the LV Lifestyles forum. So I’m good with that. But, I could use some assistance with casual breakfast and lunch spots.

Peppermill just north of Encore had very good breakfast and is 24/7. Stripburger and El Segundo Sol at Fashion Mall are both a perfectly fine lunch and also have happy hour specials.

Esther's kitchen is REALLY good for a casual lunch - I believe they fancy up the place for dinner - if Dom drops by he can confirm. Limited menu, but everything we've ordered has been excellent (Italian). Friendly service, decent bar selection if you're day drinking. It's a couple of blocks south of Fremont.

I wouldn't describe Esther's as fancy for dinner. It's got a casual neighborhood restaurant feel crossed with family style. Some people dress up others do not. It's a new favourite and I was delighted to see how much the cocktail and dinner menu changed between two visits in three weeks. Highly recommended.

So, Ellis Island, Rollin Smoke or is there somewhere else that is recommended. Staying at the Orleans but we have a car so as long as it's not an hour turnaround driving I'm willing to make a trip. Welcoming recommendations.
I've been to Vegas a few times and haven't checked out Ellis Island yet.

Is it worth it? How's the $7.99 steak special? How's their beer?

I see they have $5 blackjack. That could be fun.

Ellis Island is an annual WSOP stop for me. Steak special is fine but last 2 times I have gone with the 16 oz prime rib - mashed potatoes w/gravy and great green beans sautéed in garlic. Choice of 6-8 draft beers in a large glass (24 oz maybe). $19 something before tip. Fine dining for us low rollers.

It's all pretty marginal in my book, I'd go pho Saigon 8 or maybe pho Jenny. Whichever is closer.

Over both of those by a fair margin I'd do monta ramen, or shang's noodles though.

Yeah as Wyman stated for corned beef? I love pho as much as the next guy but I can get good pho options in Houston, which I do.

Also decent ramen option.

Corned beef is hard to come by.

I never miss having dinner at Ellis everytime I'm in Vegas. A must go for food, price, and a diner atmosphere. Good desserts too!

Ha I saw you had made a post on the trip report I started. There I had put a posting about food options and I mentioned going to Aloha Specialities for saimin noodles. I suspect you where trying to reply to that.

In that case I agree that your pho and ramen options are better. That being said I have a soft spot for saimin that I can’t really find back home in Houston. Plus Aloha is downtown where I’m staying and convenient.

Another Ellis fan here! Beers are $2.50 and pretty good, the steak you get with the $7.99 steak and eggs was much better than I would expect for that price and they cook it nicely pink throughout when ordered medium rare. And the late night $5 BJ tables are always fun.

Also Momofuku’s lunch menu is very reasonably priced, $17 for some very good ramen. $10 for 2 pork belly bao was a bit pricy, but worth cuz they’re delicious.

Who has the best pizza on the Strip?

I've heard good things about Secret Pizza (in The Cosmopolitan) as well as Pin-Up Pizza (Planet Hollywood).

Five50 and it’s not even close. Pizza rock and good pie are the champs though. Gotta go downtown.
