Obviously not, since both are by far the best choices in the valley

Uh you don’t measure BBQ by sides, there almost an afterthought. They can’t be atrocious but the main point should be the meat.

Looking for a no corkage, kid friendly, low key restaurant near Luxor / Excal / Mandalay area. American, BBQ, chinese, whatever, just want to enjoy some wine we'll be bringing where the kid can color a placemat and maybe have a tantrum or two and it's the norm. Thoughts?

So much this. That's actually a big thing I look for in BBQ reviews. If the only thing people continually comment on is **** like the potato salad or cornbread then I'll pass in favor of a place with even non edible sides but great meat. The region matters a lot too I think. In California barbecue reviews tend to not be about the meat even if the meat is good because there isn't a ton of barbecue culture out here. People rather talk about the 10 different sauces or the pulled pork nachos than geek out on the preparation of the meat.

I think the above is an insightful post, and I think I will incorporate it into my life in the future.

For a place where a tantrum or two won't stick out just drop your kid off in any poker room before you go out to eat... although I don't know how they'll feel about crayons at the poker table

Came to exclaim my yearning for Aloha Specialities. Man it sounds so good today.

Also, totally giving my backing to Jessie Raes. Best BBQ I've ever had.

So I’ve tried a couple of bbq places out here and I can say wholeheartedly that I find them totally disgusting. I just don’t like meat covered in unbelievably sweet sticky sauce, I read that the Carolina bbq stuff is more vinegar based, wondering if there’s anywhere out here that does it like that?

Ask for no sauce, problem solved

I like to stick to my Grandad's approach when it comes to good BBQ. "If you can't smell the BBQ from a few blocks away, it ain't ****."

Coming from a Texas 'que heritage, I always have held to the belief and opinion that a piece of meat that has to be slathered with sauce got screwed up somewhere before it was plated. I would like to find a place out there that runs a good mesquite pit and did a brisket with that excellent smoke ring served up on butcher paper.

To me, it is all about the wood and the rub...and then let the meat speak for itself.

If someone has to have sauce, make sure it is on the side and NOT covering the plated meal. At least then you get a better feel for whether the pitmaster knew what they were doing

They also use USDA Prime for their brisket. It’s incredible.

They don’t have a restaurant. They’re at First Friday sometimes. The guy has a full time job and just does this on the side. I just text the owner and buy 2-4 pounds to make at home when it’s available. Try sending them a DM and asking about the brisket.

The reviews on this place are pretty bad, at least the one in texas. Actually upon further review it says that the place closed down.. Also looking for the one in Vegas but nothing comes up?

Whats the pro order for a first timer of Jessie Raes?

Didn't even realize the place is fairly close to my house and i drive by it all the time.

Whatever BBQ you like. They have daily specials, and it’s a good idea to call and make sure they have everything still. I’m a baby back rib person and multiple times I’ve walked in and they were sold out. Do love that place, might have to roll through this week.

Must be a different place cuz the guy has never owned a restaurant before. He literally brought me a 10 pound brisket to the Starbucks parking lot, lol. There’s no storefront, just send them a DM.

Jessie Rae’s get the spare ribs. I’m not even big on spare ribs but theirs are amazing.

I prefer baby backs, but yeah, I always get the spares there as well.

So all the bbq talk got me hungry and headed to Jessie Rae’s for lunch/and dinner/ and some breakfast tomorrow. I’m not really sure what to think honestly. I ordered a rack of baby backs, order of brisket, and a pork sandwich. When I left the cashier told me that she didn’t realize they were out of baby backs and gave me spare ribs instead and she told me they were more expensive and she liked them more. A little odd to not be asked but it was fine. Spare ribs were quite good, and cooked perfectly, but I must say I far prefer baby backs in general. Brisket was really good and definitely the best I’ve had in Vegas. I know purists don’t care but the sauces on the side were quite good, especially their original blend. Then we get to the pulled pork sandwich. It tasted like someone smoked the sandwich in pot smoke. I tried several bites, tried dipping it in sauce, it was god awful.

Not really sure how I feel about the experience, if I just ordered the brisket I would be back next week, spare ribs I probably only need once or twice a year, and if I just ordered the pulled pork I would be calling the health department. With that said everyone in dining room was raving about the food so I could be an outlier.
